Randall Bloomquist out at 640 WGST

I doubt they will find someone who is little more than a caretaker for the frequency.

Some of the others they approached in the last few years for that gig (notice I did not say job or position) have turned them down, knowing that CC will not keep them in their then-current position.

Combined with what I read about Cletus and their history in the market, CC Atlanta truly is the Building of Death.

Too bad, they have a few great signals, just don't know what to do with them...

POLKARADIO 640!!! ... NOW we're talking DIVERSITY!!!

Put me down as the night jock ... I'm pulling out my Little Wally, Frankie Yankovic, and Jimmy Pol's Pittsburgh Steelers version of the "Pennsylvania Polka."

Okay, okay ... I'll handle the PD duties, too! ::)

Is Bloomquist still working at GST or is he gone? This thread was hot and heavy for a couple days but I don't know if there was ever solid word on that. Haven't seen anything in the trades so I assume he is still employed.

Re: Randall Bloomquist is NOT out at 640 WGST

It's in the middle of this long thread: Randall Bloomquist told me that he is still at GST. Sadly, no way to fix the original subject line.

Simulcast the Big Joe Polka Show from RFD TV and I'm on board too.

Randal is going into a new business! Bridge demolition! He used to be a reporter with the Washington Star in DC. His dream was to be a D.J. He never could muster up to being a decent air talent, so guess what? He became a PD with an attitude and destroyed everyone in his wake. What a nice human being he is! Evil, Evil, Evil! Find me a person that likes him and I'll retract my statement.

So...this thread about him being gone started back in November and I think he still there...any word on this? Is he going to be a casualty of the deep cuts nationally with CC?

I can hazard a guess...

- Randy Cook will be dropped in favor of something syndicated in the AM
- A couple of promotions folks
- Project has been relatively untouched. Expect them to contribute to the cause a couple of people.
- Since Cletus is gone, there's not much to whack at the Bull, but any live person left there can be a target
- Possibly an engineer
- Sales assistants. They can be replaced with someone who will work cheaper and is young enough to overlook the CC history of cuts
- At least one or two people from the Hispanic side of the house, either air talent or back office.

Just a few random, non-scientific guesses.

Well Tuesday will be a good day to do that, because Barrack is being sworn in as President so no body will be paying attention.

Some good predictions by Mr. Bill.
The 2 spanish stations could probably operate leaner without much detrimental effect.
Engineers rarely get cut...but maybe.
Whether or not Kristen stays on the Bull will be a good indicator of what their post-Cledus disaster strategy is.
Project could definitely contribute.
Are there any promotions people left?
Randy gone at GST is almost a certainty...but to syndicate mornings so the station has NO local personality, NO local M-F show, and NO person to serve as a utility player/ambassador for the station? That truly is the equivalent of giving up, turning out the lights and going home.
Whether or not Randall goes (the subject of this giant thread) I think depends on whether or not they are giving up. He takes heat, but a lot of these guys only do what they're told to do and allowed to do from above.
But what about Clay? Is he safe after the very public lack of judgment that was Cledus?

What syndicated program could they put in that time slot? Make a deal with Citadel to put Imus there, thus allowing WYAY to put Spiff and someone else in the mornings? It still keeps in Imus in the market, albeit on a weaker signal.

Replay The Wall Street Journal This Morning, much like Randall did after The King left? Eliminating Randy and firing Bloomquist will reduce costs. Why invest money and local talent into a new morning show during rough economic times? Clear Channel gave up on WGST when they hired Bloomquist, if not before.

Doesn't Bill Bennett on WGKA pull in better numbers than WGST? Bloomquist takes a lot of heat because people are still mad at the way The King and The Kimmer were let go. A monkey would make a better program director than Bloomquist.

Look at smaller markets where Clear Channel has News/Talk stations. The morning shows in Cleveland, Louisville, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and even Toledo pull in respectable ratings. But then again, Bloomquist never programmed those stations.

I predict Bloomquist will actually be promoted, with his disastorous track record he's pretty much a "John Hogan in Training".

Re: Randall Bloomquist is really, really out at 640 WGST

All Access reports, Randall Bloomquist is out as of January 20. Along with him Imaging Director Adam Schneider was shown the door.
