Ratings archive??

Is there a ratings archive online? I would like to look up radio ratings from the early 80's in L.A. Is there anything out there?

I've never seen any site online with that information. There are a couple of radio history sites geared toward a certain city that has some old ratings data (Dallas, New York).

This might help, here's the 12+ ratings for the top 10 stations in 1980 for L.A.

Spring 1980

KABC--7.0
KBIG--5.7
KMET--4.9
KJOI--4.8
KNX--4.8
KFWB--4.2
KLAC--4.2
KRLA--3.8
KRTH--3.5
KIIS (FM)--3.3

Fall 1980

KABC--6.9
KBIG--5.1
KFWB--5.0
KJOI--4.3
KNX--4.2
KRLA--4.1
KLAC--3.7
KMET--3.6
KIIS (FM)--3.3
KRTH--3.2

Can you please site your source for this information? I would like to look at other years too. Thanks!

You can get ratings back to mid-2001 by typing radioandrecords.com into the website archive.org

Archive.org is a pretty neat site. Love that Way Back Machine!

Thanks man! Let's trade airchecks. I have emailed and messaged you about it.

My source is a now defunct trade magazine called Television/Radio Age. My local library has a complete run and they printed the Arbitron ratings of either the top 5 or top 10 stations for each market from about 1972 to 1989 when they ceased publication.

Hmm..really? Do you have the ratings for 1983 & 1984 in Los Angeles?

Radio and Records has, over the years, been the most consistent about printing Arbitron numbers. If I recall correctly, they've been printing them since the beginning of the paper back in 1973. Unfortunately, their online database only goes back to 2001.

A friend of mine who was a Los Angeles PD in the 1970s gave me a few Xeroxed pages covering Fall 1976 to Fall 1979. It's 12+ info. If I can get some time to type it all in, I'll post.

Domingo: The originals are pretty fragile and locked away. I've transcribed them into a notebook and will post them here starting tomorrow.
