Wow! Mama Mia!!! The two Country stations way down in Dallas/Fort Worth!!!! Just goes to show you how two companies that cut cut cut can destroy two once great stations.

My friends in Dallas tell me The Wolf and KSCS have never sounded worse than they do today.

So far Movin' and Jack are BIG MISTAKES. KVIL finally UP.

Didn't KLUV give away a ton of cash and a car this month and only saw a modest increase. Hey keep the cash and hire some decent jocks for Jack and Movin' huh!

KLIF almost tied with KRLD. WOW!!!

You're basing that on the 12+ numbers, which don't always tell the whole story. The better assesment is to look at the demographic breakdowns. For example, JACK's 12+ numbers have remained mostly flat. But there are posts around here indicating JACK does very well in its core demo.

How true!!! 12+ means NOTHING in ad revenue, etc...may have back in the 60s and 70s and Top40 radio (which played anything from soft rock to disco to country crossovers!)...but sure as heck doesnt today or for the past 20+ years!
Jack does quite well in its target demo....so does a lot of other formats, which is why they are still around though the 12+ numbers suck.....

Wouldn't those gains have come with the morning and afternoon hosts who are no longer at KLIF? ::)

I know I am basing my opinions on the 12+ numbers, but that's all we have access to.

Some Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to Mark Elliot....

Hey CBS: The Oasis is 3.0 and in the Top 10 last summer. "Movin'" dropped to 2.7 one month then to 2.5 the next. Was that a great move?

The Draveckey Line is 2.1: Named for former Pop Cultre Sinkhole moderator Ed Draveckey, this is the Mendoza line of Dallas radio: If you can beat city owned WRR, who is always the center of the book with almost no promotion, you are doing well. If you are below it, you should consider making changes, if not changing formats.

The Bone Needs To Go: Not only do Dallas Cowboy broadcasts not help, but KDBN has been beaten in the ratings not only by KAAM, but also not one, not two, but SIX Spanish language stations, I know the signal is problematic, but it's time to try something else. Just as long as that something else is not country or any flavor of Spanish (cue David Eduardo: Spanish is a language, not a format :))

Speaking of no Cowboys Bonus: You'd think that 12+ numbers would go up for The Ticket, but "the official home of the Dallas Cowboys" KTCK/KTDK actually have dropped to 2.4 in each of the trends so far.

Which brings us to KTYS. The Twister has not hurt KPLX (would somebody PLEASE change that blasted call sign???). You have the same format as next-door KSCS and have a .9 to show for it (down from 1.0, down from 1.1). Even Memories did better than this.

...and finally, who would have thought it would take automated country to get KFXR to appear in the ratings? 1190 has a .5 for the last two trends and for the summer book.

Dallas/Fort Worth has been without an all-news station for....a very very long time.

Thus ends my rant. :)

Just give Movin time, they've only been on the air for about 1 to 3 months. I think Movin will be better after they hire jocks after the 1st of the new year.

The question is, who went up at the Ticket's expense? And would the Ticket have fallen further this Fall without the Cowboys?

I quoted only 12+ because i didn't want to get to far into the ratings as the moderators will not allow...but in 25-54 The bone is barely a 1 share. KLUV is barely in the 2's. Even KSCS and Wolf went considerably down in 25-54's. WBAP-KISS-K104-KVIL-KESS-KLTY rule 25-54.

Jack lost 25% of it's 18-34 and 25-54

In 18-34 and 25-54 Movin' lost 25% of it's audience.

The Twister HAS hurt The Wolf and has been effecting their 18-34 and 25-34 numbers. The plan was designed to bring the Wolf's younger demos down which it did. Now if only KSCS could get their act together and protect their bult in 25-54.

The Ticket's lowest trends for 2004 & 2005 occurred in the Fall as well. Appears to be a cyclical seasonal occurrence. Is the cause football sports talk competition, Rangers season over, being on the nightime tower pattern longer, or competition from football, basketball & hockey seasons running concurrently on TV and on other stations?

Football season is usually very good to sports stations and specific sports shows in Texas. Galloway and Hansen are probably more well respected by football fans than most of the Ticket hosts, so that could be hurting the Ticket. Plus, the Mavericks are obviously in the upswing.

But has ESPN 103.3 enjoyed a bump when the Ticket has been flat or down?

The Ticket and ESPN never seem to effect each other...
In other words, if one is up, the other is either up or flat, if one is down, the other is either down or flat, etc...

It's once in a blue moon where ESPN has a good book and the Tiket is down...

Generally, when the Ticket is down, so are ALL the "talk" stations- ESPN, KRLD, WBAP, KLIF, etc...

No, ESPN really hasn't enjoyed a bump. What I find funny about that station is the fact that the Mavs were in the NBA FINALS last year and they couldn't get over a 2 share in the ratings. The original PD of the station actually got PROMOTED, though the station never became a factor during his time there. Sad Sad Sad.

While I agree that 12+ numbers often tell little of the story, one thing is certain. If you are number one 12+, you MUST be doin' something right.

Well, you're attracting a lot of listeners, but the question then becomes are those listeners listeners that the advertisers want?

Or to put it another way, would you rather be #1 12+, or (let's say....)5th... 25-54.

I don't really follow the Miller-Kaplan data, but I'd venture a guess that there's stations out there getting their "a**" kicked in 12+'s, but laughing all the way to the bank on their 25-54 numbers...

Sad really. Those advertisers rather stare at a paintings frame, than the actual portrait itself.

Which reminds me of a good pick-up line at art museums:

"You know, I find that picture frames can be too confining."

; )

The best example is EX-Standards WDUV in Tampa. #1 for years in 12+, but generally 14th or 15th in billings. It has nearly no listeners under age 55.

What's sad about it? Or are you really suggesting that all advertisers should work off of 12+ ratings?

The problem with that is take all those financial shows, mortgage shows, etc that you hear on talk stations on weekends..Chances are they're running on KRLD or KLIF because they have older, more affluent audiences...Why would they want to run K104 or Kiss? How many 17 year olds have a rollover to invest? The downpayment for an investment property...

It's not looking at the frame instead of the portrait, it's looking at 2 completely different pictures...
