> WYMY is in fourth place in Eastern NC!

That does not really come as a shocker to me. I bet it's higher than that, they just aren't getting the diaries to the right places.

Hot is 14th, way behind such great powerhouses such as WILT, WTKF and WELS.

Hankgle 94 is 15th. Archway must be SO PROUD!<P ID="signature">______________

Put a fork in Archway because that turkey is done...their ball-busting, know-it-all management attitude did the following: assembled a local management team headed by a GM with no GM experience for a market that will chew you up and spit you out; staffed each department head position with self-serving, incompetents deep in ambition but shallow in talent and experience, who ran off good and talented people; blew up a good country format in the Eagle; overlooked the mainstream-CHR listener/consumer and musically position Hot for that listener; did not address the lack of on-air talent growth and poor on-air content due to a void of coaching highlighted with undisciplined and juvenile show prep, making for an inmate running the prison impression; bad production, amateur events/promotions, bad imaging, no marketing, and last but certainly not least, continuing technical problems with the signals, all of which has contributed to a loss of nearly 50% of their market share from a year ago.

I bet their revenue numbers look GREAT!

Their performance over the last year is what can be considered the definition of a radio broadcasting "train wreck" and an investment bankers "nightmare"! And it could not have happened to a more deserving group of arrogant people.

Let me guess... you don't like Archway much, huh?

Keith,

What I don't like is incompetent people masquerading as broadcasters while destroying careers and radio stations along the way and leaving one good example after another why people should abandon terrestrial radio altogether.

The reality is that Archway is but one seemingly inconsequential broadcast group, but there are many Archways out there, and when you add up their collective contribution to the industry you realize why our industry is in a frighteningly deep hole.

Oh yes my friend there are more radio groups out there like the one you discribe.

>The new corporate owners, GMs and sales managers get their big salaries and bonus incintives up front. Most of the good programming people that may already be in place, are paid salaries that become stagnate and below par. Good air-talent will then move elsewhere, again. I've seen some good on-air people that were rooted in their town stay after these takeovers. They were left to make chicken soup out of chicken sh-t and eventually leave the buisness to do something else. Programing has become 2nd to sales and no longer the product. The listener has become the product...

>Promotional dollars are cut to the bare minimums and most everything that is promoted in a small to medium cluster environment is so cheapened with spam so that the station won't have to spend any money. Buisness is buisness but I've heard some great promotions so watered down by sales and promotion people simply because they wouldn't take the time to work it since they weren't getting a commission or just lazy...

>Remaining inventory is sold in bulk for $1 a holler to maxamize profits. (Can't blame em there but I feel it hurts your rates for local folks).

>In some cases stations may need to be changed or tweeked if ratings are already mediocre and stale. I feel that some local on-air talent and PDs that know how to do great radio have had their hands tied by corporate as far of music selection, promotions, imaging and air staff. Corporate music radio has become so predictable that it has lost the appeal of whats next other than the S.O.S. every day. These small to mid size radio groups play it safe and settle for mediocrity or they just fire the whole bunch and start THE NEW, RE-PACKAGED...to run the same cycle with different people. Some just sell out to a bigger corporate radio group.

I don't know, this seems fishy to me. WTKF gets a big bounce when another FM talker moves in at 106.3, WYMY gets a big bounce when another Spanish language moves closer to the center at 104.7....

Both Hot and Bob are in pretty bad shape. I'm a little incredulous about the fact that Hot used to pull a 7 share and now two CHR's combined barely pull a five. It's amazing that Hot had that 7 when it was down in the triple wide, behind Wal Mart, with sub-standard equipment. Now they have a prime location, new studios, and they have a 1.9. This shows that it really is about the talent.

As much as I'm not a fan of Stix, the lineup of Stix-Gina-Gellar was as good as that station has seen since.

I think Hot may be past the stage of looking at a format change, and closer to ending up in another WSFL-WQDW dark situation.

Hot FM has tried everything it seems and nothing has worked. The traffic jam
and the lunch cafe are the only thing that keep them going. They need to get some good talent and get rid of the rap mix. A complete overhall is needed when
two big sticks cant get more than a four share...
BOB is even worse to me. Hank FM is pathetic. WNBR is killing them, right along
with RNS...
Most took a drop this time, looks like a diary misfire...

Is it possible that the creation of the RMT market has changed how the ENC market is reported? That would explain some of this.
