Ratings.

It could be that its too soon to know what the PPM ratings really mean. P1s no longer have an impact since a PPM carrier is now exposed to many stations, most of which he/she is not listening to, just passing through the audio environment. Also, since samplings have been taken from the 50 plus demos in order to beef up the males 18 to 24, there is an unfair slant against niche stations such as public standards and classical stations.

Bob, do you still have your home in Naples? We met many years back at WCNZ I believe when Russ Hamnett was running the place

We've had our place in Bonita Springs since 1996, which we visit between October and May. My wife stays most of the season, I fly back and forth. I have never really worked in radio in SWF, other than some voice work and consulting for Classical 97.7 and a couple of syndicated shows heard on WGCU.

That's what I thought. You may not remember it but we had an interesting talk about selling the WCLV facility on the terminal Tower.

I remember most serious discussions about selling
WCLV. Frankly, I'm very glad we didn't take up any of those offers until 2001. And then, it wasn't really a sale, but an exchange with cash.

Getting back on topic here with ratings, th January PPM was released yesterday. Since October WMMS has gone 7.0, 6.8, 5.2, 4.4, 4.3

Do you think we have an afternoon drive problem? That's a great big YES.

12+ yes. 6+ now actually (what 6 year old has a PPM?!)
Look into the breakouts and it's certainly no better there.
Also note that 92.3 sitting a tenth of a point above 100.7 in 6+
They spent all that money for Rover and now the little pea-shooter is beating them again without any jocks!

It was likely MMS would lose some audience after the departure of The Maxwell Show but I didn't think it would impact it as much as it has.

That is what gets me, asides from the ads I've seen in Scene magazine......nothing at all, no marketing, no TV ads [which I know are expensive].....or maybe they're advertising in stuff I don't read or on stuff I don't watch. No marketing at all.

I believe he's talking about the Alan Cox show on WMMS afternoons as I was talking about the ratings decline in that slot.

That... and WMMS basically disregarded an entire month of ratings by throwing in Mike "Charley" Toomey and Shawn "Dumb" Street in afternoon drive for an entire month, in late November/early December no less. Knowing full well neither of them were ready for prime time (and never will be). It doesn't take an idiot to know you will lose a tremendous amount of audience by handling it as badly as Captain Showbiz did.

Meanwhile, who is this "Alan Cox" you're talking about? Never heard of the guy...

I was a big fan of Maxwell, but Alan Cox is actually kind of growing on me a bit Nate. I know at least a few people who really enjoy his show, but they were people that care for Maxwell. Cox does a good show and does discuss some interesting topics, but so far hasn't made me laugh my arse off like The Maxwell Show used to. It'll be interesting to see if Maxwell does land anywhere in Cleveland once the non-compete is up.
