Ratings!

Has any company ever had this many stations (non am) in the top 10 in one month? Clear Channel has 5 stations @ 4.1 or higher I have never seen this before, and Mix is 4.3

How much lower can Wired sink??

And how much higher can their sister station 'XTU go? It's impressive to see how much they've climbed in the 12+ ratings, although I am unsure as to how they performed in the demos.

Seems like the crew at 'XTU has discovered a successful formula for country in an urban market (although many listeners are likely in the suburbs).

Again Radio-Online has no ratings for WIP-FM.

WWIQ is up to 1.9. WPHT also up at 2.2.

WIP-FM= 3.7 up from 3.2(Aug)

WPEN-FM= 2.0 up from 1.8(Aug)

Id say WIP has regained most of its prominence back. There was a time when the two stations were much closer ratings wise albeit during non-nfl(eagles) season.

Personally since WPEN-FM switched their personnel around a couple months ago I havent listened to them. I was never a fan of Missanelli but I was an ardent Tony Bruno listener and I liked the chemistry he had with Harry Mayes. Dont like his new partner even a little bit, WPEN somehow managed to find the 1 guy who could turn me off to Tony Bruno.

Non-Religious Spoken Word Formats Philly Sept

KYW -AM #1 (News)
WIP-FM #12 (Sports Talk)
WHYY-FM #13 (NPR/Talk/Info)
WPHT #18 (Talk)
WPEN-FM #9 (Sports Talk)
WWIQ #20 (Talk)
WIP-AM and WPEN-AM barely a blip on the ratings screen.

I can understand why WPEN-AM was sold to Family Radio, 8.5 million in the bank. They didn't seem to set the world on fire(ratings wise) being an ESPN station. Would they get the return of their dollars spent running a second live and local format on 950AM? Probably not. With WIP and their own 97.5 covering Philly Sports with local programming, my guess 950 would just be a drain on their corporate bank account, especially now in the Winter 610 will carry CBS Radio Sports Network. So sports radio is pretty well covered in Philly. So I can understand why they sold WPEN-AM to Family Radio. Who else, but a national religious or an ethnic broadcaster with pretty deep pockets is going to pay 8.5 million dollars for an AM signal? FM is where radio is today, AM is barely holding on, and ONLY because of spoken word programming, but as more and more of that moves to FM those spoken word AM stations are now having the same battle they had 35+ years ago when pop/rock music started moving to FM.

I've been listening to both WIP and WPEN, plus WWTX in Wilmington (Fox Sports Radio). Burned out on Political Talk. Frankly all three sports/talk stations have their good points and bad points. WPEN seems to do far more Eagles talk and football in general than WIP has, so I've found my self listening to them online at work the most. WIP-FM has been more focused on the Phillies, but now that the Phils are done for this year, they'll probably do more Eagles talk so I may end up listening to 94.1 more often than 97.5 as the fall proceeds, time will tell.

Dan Patrick and Jim Rome are on WWTX which I check out when not listening to 94.1 or 97.5. Sometimes Patrick and Rome have got interesting interviews and sports stories, so it is a good alternative when you get burned out on only hearing about Philly sports as they are doing national sportstalk with plenty of guest interviews. Interestingly, Jim Rome will be moving to the new CBS Radio Sports Network in January, so then I'll have to go to 610 to check his show out. Dan Patrick will be moving to the new NBC Radio Sport Network ( I've not heard of any Philly/Wilmington stations picking up on the option becoming an NBC radio sports affiliate ).

With CBS radio launching their new radio sports network in January 2013, it makes sense for 610 WIP to becoming the Philly clearance station carrying it 24/7. Their owners, CBS Radio will make money with 610 that way, just as many CC stations across the nation do with their clearance stations that carry Premiere programming (Rush, Dan Patrick and Jim Rome, etc). WIP-AM probably will pull in better ratings with the CBS programming than it's presently doing since what it airs now can be heard on 94.1 FM.

Dan Patrick will be moving to the new NBC Radio Sports Network...

Wait, has that been confirmed yet? From what I've seen, it was mere speculation at this stage.

1490 WBCB is presently only carrying the hourly updates.

I over stated it, sorry. It is speculated that Dan Patrick will be leaving Premiere and Fox Sports Radio and going to NBC Sports Radio when his contract expires in Dec.

Jim Rome is going to CBS Sports Radio in January. Thank you, I didn't notice 1490 WBCB is carrying the hourly NBC Sports updates. They are in Bucks County, I believe and it seems that their signal doesn't reach the entire city of Philly and definitely not down to the Wilmington area, as their tower is near to Trenton and only 1Kw. So WBCB is not as good of an affiliate for NBC Sports Radio as 610 WIP is for CBS Sports Radio as their signal covers the entire Delaware Valley. However, WBCB probably will be counted as the Philly affiliate for clearance purposes for NBC Radio Sports much as WILM in Wilmington was considered to be the Philly clearance station for Glenn Beck after WPHT dropped the show (even though WILM's signal also doesn't cover all of Philly), and prior to Philly's WWIQ picking up the show.

Sports Talk/Sports Radio is a growing business. I think many have, as I have, tired of political talk. It's the same thing day in and day out. Lib talk bashes conservatives, Conserv talk bashes liberals. Obama is evil, Romney is evil, etc, etc.

There are a number of sports talk radio networks now: ESPN, Fox Sports Radio, Premiere Radio, CBS Sports Radio, and NBC Sports Radio.

At some point non-sports talk stations are going to have to come up with the next big thing in talk/spoken word radio. Right now Sports Talk Radio is the next big thing.

... political talk. It's the same thing day in and day out. Lib talk bashes conservatives, Conserv talk bashes liberals. Obama is evil, Romney is evil, etc, etc.

That can also be sports radio (Yankees are evil, Cowboys are overrated, etc, etc. :D) .

It's not exactly the same thing. Granted Eagles fans hate the Cowboys, or someone might say the Michael Vick stinks, but that's a far cry from saying the leader of our nation, be he/she a Republican or a Democrat is evil, the anti-Christ, etc. That's only sports, a game. Like with music. One person may say that they hate Country Music, someone else may hate Rap. Most folks hate Polka's. It's just not the same thing, as that is only music, an entertainment. The other is real life.
