Steve...My comments weren't only pointed at you-by any means. They weren't just pointed at anyone in particular. This near the actual tragedy, when officials are still trying to figure out what all has happened to whom...it is ridiculous for anyone to be pointing blame at anyone.
I can't see any level of preparedness actually accounting for all the thousands of occurances. There simply was no way to be prepared for the worst-case scenario when you cannot even imagine what that worst case scenario would be.
There is NO DOUBT that help ws too slow in getting there. There is NO DOUBT that many things have been mishandled.
Some of those funds were appropriated to "Homeland Security" Steve. Now...if there had been another 911 Towers situation, people would have been bitchin' about all the funds we'd wasted preparing for those totally improbable natural disasters. You know I'm right.
Unfortunately, there are a number of people who feel the need to gripe about anything the government does.
Just as unfortunately, those people are load and vocal, and a lot of them get their own radio shows where it becomes easier to lead even more bands of mindless maurauding sheep with bullhorns.
There's only one logical and realistic thing to do now.
Pull together...do what needs to be done...then, after the dust settles, (1 year, 10 years, 20...who knows?) it's time to try to fix all the things that went wrong so this doesn't happen again.
Ronald is/was my favorite President of all time. Never begin to think you can school me on much of anything Ronald.
There is no President and no administration in history that could have been prepared to face something like Katrina hitting the coast. Who warned it was coming?-The government did.
Most of the human loss could have been prevented by simply making evacuation mandatory (forced, if you will) several days before Katrina struck.
However, if the government would have done that...then you people would have been bitchin' about violating rights of private property and the right to decide for themselves whether they wanted to get out or not.(See how this works?)
What exactly is your definition of pulling the firebox anyway?
"Hey, ya'll, there's a Category 5 hurricane headed straight for you, get out now!" is not pulling the firebox?
If not...you need to persinally design a new firebox by God, teach the US to use it!
Steve, you've always struck me as a fairly intelligent, reasonable person. Turn off the damn talk radio and think for yourself!
