Is Cox "dumping" 106.9???

Dumping by changing the formats? Let's see since Tampa's 101.5 The Point (The last 80s station) recently flipped to HOT 101.5, they might. If so Houston would have 3 CHR's again. With the exception of they can't call it HOT because that is already taken at 95.7 Look for Z 106.9 All the Hits modeled after former San Antonio's KELZ. Heck they can probably use those call letters for Houston, since in the past Houston call letters were used for San Antonio like KSRR 96.5 > KSRR 92.9 KLTO 104.9 > KLTO 97.7

I disagree with your lengthy statement. The Zone was like those Gen X stations that are popping up minus the rhythmic and pop tracks. I am so sick and tired of hearing Nickleback and other butt rock songs on The Buzz. The Zone had pulled out some gems from the 90s I haven't heard since DXing 101X from San Antonio. The Buzz is a crock. Since when has Metallica been alternative? Mandatory Metallica does not make sense on The Buzz. That should belong on KLOL, which doesn't exist anymore.

I said it once and I'll said it again, Cox, you guys are dumbasses for pulling the plug on The Zone.

Unfortunately, The Buzz isn't an alternative station anymore. They should be designated as an Active Rock station. They're not even playing the current #1 mainstream alternative song "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People (I don't think any station in Houston is playing it, even though it's the catchiest song I've heard in years). The Buzz has become a station for those who won't let go of grunge and wear Ed Hardy shirts today. Definitely not alternative.

The last thing we need is another station playing the same 8 g*damn songs over and over again. If I hear Adele again I'm going to a pool supply store and drinking all of the chemicals.

103.7 FM plays "Pumped Up Kicks."

The Buzz played it a few times after 11 p.m. I doubt, though, that you'll find a station here that spins Foster the People 50 times a week like L.A.'s KROQ. KTBZ did air it, even if during the late night "new music" show.

Metallica still draws significant audiences both on radio and at live shows. The band belongs on at least one frequency here, and why not The Buzz? Even if the group surfaced in the 80s, it just doesn't fit on The Arrow yet.

Understand that a modern rock station in this market has to serve as an active/alternative hybrid. If you can put up with Godsmack, Tool, some Rage, Metallica, heaping helpins of Linkin Park, and the other hard rock staples, you get old school R.E.M., Depechemode, all the 90s mainstays with deeper cuts, some Marley and some occasional flashbacks from Ned's Atomic Dust Bin and the Dead Milkmen.

KHJK offers more of the supposed hipster or indie outfits, but you have to endure the Rolling Stones, lots of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Adele and others. I love the contrast 103.7 offers (and the Stones and Mayer) but some might not.

I've heard Metallica played on classic rock stations before. Ironically, it's the 90s cuts Enter Sandman, Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters. Classic rock NEEDS to get into the 80s, and not just Def Leppard and Bon Jovi (Yuck!). There's lots of great 80s rock that can fit well in classic rock. Look at how many classic hits (oldies, not The Eagle's "classic hits") play 80s music now.

...And to those who say The Buzz does not play any "alternative" music, I heard Foster the People, Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt," Mumford and Suns twice, The Clash's "Bank Robber," The Ramones and Death Cab For Cutie's "You Are a Tourist." They spun these tracks in the span of a day.

The station may lean active at times, but it does not ignore new artists in the non-aggro genres or so-called classic alternative.

Yep, it's custom tailored to those who wear Ed Hardy shirts, drink Bud Light and thinks Bon Jovi is classic rock.

It's tailored to the biggest audience possible.

I use to complain about The Buzz a lot, but I have come to see it as one of the best rock stations in America.

The station may air some stuff (maybe a lot of stuff) that displeases you. That is bound to happen with today's picky music listener base. Just be glad KTBZ at least spins Florence & The Machine, Foster the People and other artists of that ilk, even if the staff does so without regularity.

I love The Buzz because I like middle-ground new rock stations that mix the hard-edged stuff with 90s rock and the so-called alternative acts.

I have never sported an Ed Hardy T-Shirt, nor have I ever even considered purchasing one.

Bon Jovi is Classic Rock.

Bon Jovi is NOT Classic Rock. How dare you....take that back!

Just like music from the disco era including the Bee Gees doesn't belong on an oldies or Classic Hits station? The 80s are now 20+ years ago depending on which end of the decade you're considering. When oldies stations began back in the early 1970s, they were pointed at the decade from 1957 - 1967. We keep expanding the definition of old or classic over time.

@mrbeasley: Now, you'll have to answer to Bowling For Soup, who laments in the song "1985": "When did Motley Crue become classic rock?" ::)

Like most of you, I'm really disappointed about 106-9 The Zone. I enjoyed streaming it in my car via my BlackBerry as I drove through Austin traffic. It sucks to be me.

For you Houstonians, however, you still have 106.9HD2, Pat FM, which virtually uses the same playlist as The Zone. Do yourself a favor; spend $150 on an HD Radio (a one time fee), and tune into Pat FM. It will be almost as if The Zone never left.

Problem solved.

Problem resurfaced. Pat FM is now The Point.

KTHT

I'm trying to catch up, What's going on with KTHT? I don't live in Houston so I'm out of the loop.
