Really???

WOW, Thats unfortunate I enjoyed the zone quite a bit, both signals seem to have similar coverage over the center of Houston just from opposite sides.

And until they flip it to a Classic Hits station like WCBS-FM or KRTH, it'll still suck wind.

What is it about Cox Houston that makes this cluster (93Q aside) such a dog?

im shocked neither clear channel or cox wants to go after radio-ones 97.9 the box

Generally, a 5 share split two ways means neither station wins big.

Cox doesn't do urban, with a few exceptions. Only signal that would do well with an Urban format would be 107.5 since it puts a good signal over the southwest & southeast suburbs. CHUrban would do nicely, like Wired 96.5 in Philly.

This is bullsh**, they didn't even give this a year to pan out - yet they've been ramping up The Zone, they got vans, they've been doing locations, seemingly building up a legitimate new station and they're going to dump it to fricking simulcast 107.5????

Either this is a hoax or they are smoking some new kind of crack over at COX...

I guess I need to glue the Sirius antenna back on the Cobalt, hell. Might hear a few good songs there. They keep sending me these promo offers. And I've got one of the old receivers with the nice too-strong FM transmitter that actually sounds nice :/

Great! Now I can hear Dean and Rog clearly in Beaumont, except for the area in Port Arthur where the 107.1 LPFM station interferes with picking up 106.9.

I'm disappointed that Cox pulled the format off 106.9, although it seems the engineering effort wasn't there with the periods of dead air, etc. still going on.

I think Cox owns several Hip-Hop & R&B/Urban AC Stations in Atlanta (It's Home Base), Miami & Birmingham, AL-All of them are doing very well in the Top 10. I think Cox could move The Eagle down over to 106-9, while creating a new to station to take on R&B/Hip-Hop Powerhouse KBXX over at 107-5. The 107-5 signal signal clearly covers the Southern part of Houston. like it would play R&B/Hip-Hop all day & on weekends, Urban AC/Quiet Storm Sundays-Thursdays, and Sunday Mornings, Gospel Music-before most people go to church. Would this be a good station?

Have you ever handled engineering for a rimshot station with a tower way out in the middle of nowhere? Not as easy as you might think. I may very well be wrong, but I suspect program audio for this station is probably delivered via T1 from Ma Bell. Since it's out in the country, there is probably more than one phone company involved.

If the problems you allege have actually been happening, I suspect the engineers at Cox have had to put in a lot of "effort" dealing with problems that aren't of their own creation.

Perhaps KHJK can tweak and target 106.9's listener base. I guess though classic rock is a better fit for 106.9 and the woodlands area. I would think they will eventually flip 107.5 to something else. I just cant see them increasing the billing that much with a simulcast.

Im so irritated by this i can't belive they would simulcast 107.5? I love the music the zone plays i just think they should have put a little more effort into programing it and givin it more TIME. In my opinion there arent even words to describe how stupid this move is for them. Seriously what kind of crack are these guys smoking?

I have no idea

I am recording KHPT now, will record the flip if it happens.

THE ZONE deleted their Facebook page.

What a waste of time. Build up a new network, get people excited. Play all of the songs that I know the lyrics to...

It sounds like it's on automation now. I'll record until they flip the switch. Good job COX RADIO

Just what we need, more of the same Stairway to Freebird classic rock crap taking up the FM band. Why torture us with a simulcast Dean and Rog, etc.? Just listening to static or the Emergency Broadcast System would be more entertaining.

Looks like Cox might even drop the Classic Hits moniker for Classic Rock, as it tries to take over The Arrow. In The All Access Article I was looking at, KHPT's signal covers along the North/Northeast area of Houston-and right into Beaumont, while KGLK's signal covers pretty much in the south part of Houston-Which is clearly heard in smaller cities like Galveston, Pearland, & Freeport.

Very very dumb move for Cox. I'll for sure will voice my opinion about this change. I just saw The Zone van at Hooters in Clear Lake yesterday evening. Very stupid move. Cox will regret this move when their ratings fall.

Their numbers were finally going up. I bet we see another (admittedly small) bump in the next ratings followed by a split between the simulcasts. No current Zone listeners are sticking around. We're going back to our iPods or satellite radio or The Buzz.

I didn't care that the signal was a bit hard to pick up in SW Houston. I'd rather listen to a slightly bad signal of good music than a great signal (a few miles away from Missouri City) of the same 8 songs or people talking.

I know they read these boards, someone over there does. Ya'll screwed up. You gonna keep screwing up, and people gonna keep leaving.
