RealOldies 1690 WRLL

Hi gang,

I run a neighborhood part 15 station on 1690 AM playing almost the same format as the Chicago
oldies station on 1690. What are my chances of getting a copy of the real oldies jingles ?
They run a great assortment & I would like to continue those jingles. I guess I could just record
off the internet & convert to a mp3-----but I just have to ask the question to see if anyone from
clear channel would be willing to supply.

Thanks

Doubtful. Radio stations pay lots of money to have customized jingles cut and the more they get, the more expensive it is. Clear Channel will probably not allow their material to be outsourced to another radio station, full power or part 15, even if the station is going away. I just wanted to let you know about this as it could mean them simply not giving them to you or, if you record them and someone from CC or the jingle company hears them on your station, a possible lawsuit. These jingles are copywritten to the station running them and to the jingle company. Granted, the likelihood of anyone who owns the rights to them hearing them on a part 15 is slim to none, anything is possible. On the other hand, if you get the green light to use them, that's great! Keep us posted on what happens.

You wouldn't even get away with it, because as of September 18th; WVON will be moving up onto that frequency. So there for, you may have to find another frequency to broadcast on. However you can't broradcast on 1690KHz, because clear channel owns that frequency and it has been sold out to WVON....

FYI- I am sure the company who created them would be more than happy to lease them to you at WRLL's rate

probably a couple grand a year just to run them

I doubt that anything remains of RealOldies, I am sure that everything has been disposed of and that the extensive music library will be disposed of after Sept. 18.

I do know that the music is on a hard drive somewhere. But I don't expect to hear it again. I feel certain that Clear Channel will jettison such foolishness as i gets on with its real work of creating on on-air market place devoid of entertainment.

Once again, and this time at the risk of violating a board rule:

WVON--1.3
WRLL--0.4

And you really think that WRLL was successful with those kind of numbers?

And once again, I point out that WVON pulled those numbers with lower power and not being on the air nine hours a day.

Radio formats go off the air because they don't get ratings and/or revenue support. That was true before CC was around and will be true after CC goes out of business. By all industry benchmarks, WRLL failed and it is now dead.

If you want pre-Beatles oldies, get off your duff and get satellite. Real Oldies and Uncle Lar aren't coming back.

Satellite? I have it better and cheaper; 10,000 1940-1965 songs on a hard drive. What would you like to hear?

10,000?? were there even 10,000 songs recorded from 1945-1965?? oh and play me some hank..i saw the light.. ;D yep it crossed over to pop.

OOPS - small correction 1940-1985, not 65.

Hank it is. I also like Long Gone Lonesome blues.

I see our friends at CC are going to continue streaming the realoldies 1690 on the internet.

So what I have done is grabbed the audio stream add a bit of processing and run it to my part 15 transmitter on 1690. The audio sounds excellent on my car radio. The range is very loud for the 1st 5 miles in all directions with it still being heard easily at almost 10 miles. I'm not going to tell anyone where my station is......it is not anywhere near Chicago.

WRLL lives on

1690,
You are very illegal for a number of reasons.

Too much power, no fcc license (that range is certainly not a part 15 - I know, I legally operate 4 of them and have an engineer), also you need the music license and the riaa license.

I bet you're 18 years old or some grizzled old hippie. I used to be a rebel (not from the South), too,

Acoording to the FCC rules and regulations, a Part-15 transmitter is only allowd 100 milliwatts witch is a 1/10th of a watt, and the antenna hight 3 meters, which is about 10 feet tall, in which that the transmitter only can be broadcast up to about a block or so.
