Recent 790 the Zone Moves

I think 790 might actually have the best show yet to compete with Buck and Kincade with the subtraction of Brandon "Hometown" Leak in favor of David Pollack on the Afternoon Saloon. I especially like the show during the frequent Chuck Olliver absences.

Mike Bell is more toned down and sports-focussed in the afternoon but still provides the right amount of humor to make it enjoyable. More likable then the smarmy Kincade. Pollack is also a good counter to Buck "Let me rest on my laurels" Belue.

While Belue is associated with one of the greatest moments in UGA history and the QB of their last National Championship in Football. Today's audience is more likely to have seen Pollack play for UGA then Belue.

I know a lot of people have bashed the move as if somehow it was unacceptable to remove a local like Brandon Leak. College Football is sport of choice here and adding David Pollack sounds like a solid decision and I like what I hear. I also think that Pollack will more than hold hiw own when they begin to cover other sports when the calendar changes.

I think Chuck Oliver needs to be re-assigned again. Team him up with Brandon Adams the lesser of two evils on the Brandon and Woolvy show and show that bore Woolvy the door.

Wow is a 790 employee in here? The Zone has seen its best days. Chuck Oliver is out at the Zone … going to 680 the Fan! He jumped the sinking ship … they are running out of money at the old home of Steak.

Pollack is ok, but even the former UGA deity can’t save the sinking ship that is the Zone; they are grasping at straws. Listeners and advertisers are getting sick of the shuffling of personalities and lineups.

Oliver is an established college expert and Pollack is supposed to what? Really, he’s little more than another guy who played the game (see Ryan Stewart and,Dennis Scott). Oliver is the King and does not need to be re-assigned and he’s not playing second fiddle to a radio rookie – not even Pollack.

As for Hometeam, he was great at his role and was one of few likable guys at the Zone. If you didn’t miss him before, you’ll miss him now. Listening to Bell and Pollack will be three LONG hours EVERY day.

The saloon will not make it to 2009 …

I disagree. Where's the proof on Oliver?

Steak, Mike Bell and Beau Brock were great on this station with Mayhem in the PM in around 1999/2000 on this station. Is Beau Brock on the Afternoon Saloon?

Last time 790 was listenable was when AJ Cannon was on with Steak and Beau.It would have been even better without Steak & Beau.

Seems I might be right in my suggestion yesterday that Chuck Oliver needs to be re-assigned.

I know it is obiously at least half right as it seems Chuck Oliver has jumped ship whether he is going to the Fan or not. Mike Bell made a casual mention in the first set about announcement vcoming up on apersonnel change on the show???? He also keeps referring to it as Pollack and Bell without the usual mention of Chuck Oliver being gone.

I know it you are correct. Mike just mentioned Chuck Oliver is moving down the aisle.

The show is better without him as I suggested earlier.

Chuck is the one person I want to hear talk about CFB. I hope he does end up at 680 because no Chuck would suck.

Thanks Rtibbs. There is your proof. I still disagree. Anyone who thinks 790 wants Chuck Oliver down the dial in the middle of college football season off of their rocker.

Let me get this straight, in the thick of the college football season, the week of the Georgia/Florida game, the guy who has been the hub for college football analysis, leaves to go to your competitor. Sounds like a 680 power play to me after the last book.
Maziar and 790 obviously wanted to add Pollack to bolster their college football brand, not lose any of the branding. 680 must have moved quickly; which obviously shows as Oliver is still on the zone website and the show is still called “The Afternoon Saloon” not “Pollack and Bell” as pointed out by Rodney Ho.

Why would you have a former personality, now working for your competitor to still be on your website? Zakk Tyler & Jane Monzures got the axe at Dave FM, do you think CBS still has them up? There was a quote about now there is not rambling form Maziar- obviously he doesn’t listen to his morning show!

Big plus for 680. First they snag Chernoff, now Oliver, the Zone apparently had a great book, but they are losing talent and steam that they built up over the years.

I tell you, Steaky and 790 are going down the drain!

First of all, I had to chuckle about the "more likable than Kincaid" line. Obama would find Limbaugh more likable than ANYONE finds Kincaid.

As for Oliver leaving for 680: that leaves exactly one person, (Cellini), who is worth anything as a broadcaster. Bell used to have it as a third voice, but it's obvious that bellying up to the bar or playing golf takes precedence over doing any homework. Apparently he thinks phony charm and chuckle is good enough to get by running point while the others handle the facts and stats.

Someone save Nick?

Chuck was the only reason I listened to the Saloon. It will be interesting to see who 680 pairs him with. Chernoff (I hope) or Perry.

I've never been a big fan of Steak's, but I used to respect him. I used to respect Steak because he had the balls...albeit with his family's money..but yet the balls to pursue his dream. When the Zone first signed on the air, it was cutting edge and honestly dedicated to it's listeners. In the old days had Chuck left 790 for 680, Steak would have said good luck to Chuck and now on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow, he'll sweep it under the rug just like a Cox or Clear Channel Station would.

But, what's worse is how awful the morning show has become and it's completely Steak's fault. The day's he's on the air which thankfully is only 3-4 times a week, he COMPLETELY DOMINATES the show. He tells everyone what he had for dinner last night, what he watched on television, and which celebrity he ran into over the weekend like anyone gives a rat a$$. I swear Domino literally looks at him in disgust because he can't get a word in edgewise and Cellini eventually talks over Steak just to shut him up.

Chuck, I wish you the best of luck on 680. You deserved better and I'll be listening to you.

Dimino can't get a word in edgewise? Are you being sarcastic? The guy never shuts up and he uses twice as many words as necessary in the process.*

*Yes I know that made no sense, but you get my point.

Oliver and Chernoff need to be paired again. IMHO Oliver has been the best thing on 790 for quite a while and I'm an Alabama Crimson Tide fan. B&K on 680 is a show I only listen to for the guests. Kincaid and his "My gosh..." and condescending attitude do nothing for me as a listener and Buck is Buck I suppose.

I would love to have a lineup with Dimino/Cellini and Chernoff/Oliver on the same station again. I'm not a huge fan of Chernoff, but I always thought he had great chemistry with the Kaing. Bell has grown on me since his move to the Saloon, but did nothing for me on Mayhem. Steak doesn't do anything for me at all and that goes way back.

FTR I'm just a listener giving my 2 cents. I'm not a radio insider and didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Steakie was b)#$&ing up a storm this morning about how much attention Chuck Oliver leaving was getting.

Oliver is about as Pompous as Steak. He mght know college footbal but he seemed to talk about Applebee's more than the SEC. The writing was on the wall for this and Chuck jumped first. They have their weekly college football show with Tony Barnhart and Wes Durham and Dimino hosted it instead of Chuck. That I thought was strange and then lately he has been on the road visiting colleges with a couple 2 minutes spots on the radio a day it seemed.

This morning Chris Dimino was crowned the King of College Football a clear knock at Kaing. Dimino did mention how Barnhart took him under his wing 2 years ago and Chris has beefed up his college Football knowledge.

Now I hear that tomorrow will be Sandra's last day on Mayhem. I can definitely support that move, if true? Mike Bell also mentioned that starting next week there would be a new update person for afternoons. For the few that still listen outside of Sandra they have done away with update people. Shaggy does it for the stews and Mike did it for the Afternoon Saloon. I dont know who does it for Porky Pig and Froggy. Hubbard filled in last week I wonder if he might be on his way back to the Zone?

He's probably upset because when 790 still had a message board it seemed that most posters did not like Steak at all.
