Recent 790 the Zone Moves

Good luck the Chuck over at 680. He should blossom over there without having to worry about being the target of all the backstabbing that takes place on a regular basis in the Zone hallways. Truth is, Dimino stills rules the roost over there. He is the one who has the ear of Steak as well as Mazier and Saltzman and he kills Chuck every opportunity he gets. He practically ruined Chuck when they were paired together, so much so that Chuck ended up a man without a show when the Big Show was finally put to rest.

That could have been a great pairing, but it seems that Dimino couldn't handle being on the air with someone actually smarter than he is. If he is not worshipped for his overbearing brilliance, the great Dimino gets ornery.

I admit Chris is a smart guy and can conduct insightful interviews, but he has never been as big a star in this market as he and Steak think he is. He can't carry his own show and even in their best days, the Bottom Line had minimal ratings success. He is not that likable and his schtick grew tired years ago.

Yet instead of cultivating Chuck, who is smart, funny and southern, they let the Jersey boy who has reached as far as he can rule the day.

We'll see how the new afternoon show works out, but I am happy for Chuck. I don't the Zone ever realized what they had (Just like with Buck and Kincaid).

I doubt Chuck Oliver and Matt Chernoff will be paired together. To anyone listening to their midday show with Chuck Smith, it is apparent that Chernoff doesn't like Oliver. Chuck turns every discussion into Auburn Football, no matter the time of year or topic. "Hey Chuck we get it, you went to Auburn. It's the middle of the NBA finals and the Hawks are up 3-0 and you are concerned about the Auburn offensive line."

For the record, Chris is from Brooklyn not New Joisey. Nick is from Cleveland. Brisket is from Boston though went to college at Tulane, thus baby NOLA’s name.

With Sandra going I guess the Zone is doing a salary dump. Things may not be rosy at Big League broadcasting. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Stews jump to ESPN radio.

I think the possibility of Chernoff and Oliver together is not that unrealistic. They are the Abbott and Costello of Atlanta Sports Radio despite what Porky Pig and Froggy think on 790. I think some of that is just playing radio. Chuck played Radio with Chernoff he didn;t seem to play as well with Mike Bell.

Chernoff seems out of place with Rude and that Kincade wannabe Perry. Team him with the King and give them 10 - 3 slot. They would wipe 790's current programming in that slot.

If they want a third voice/banana on Rude Awakening add Rob Jenners I believe he is still on staff there.

When's the last time anyone had a Jenners reference on this board. It has to be 6 months.

Nice insight into the Dimino/Oliver dynamic. If Dimino does indeed rule the roost over there, it explains why their ratings and quality are tanking. He is a classic case of someone pretending to be a deep thinker, but who lacks the proper equipment for such. He is also heinous in a technical sense as a speaker/broadcaster. I am continually baffled as to how anyone thinks the guy is a top shelf talent, but no one ever accused Brisket & Co of having good management/PD instincts. Promotion? Now those f******* know promotion!

"For the record, Chris is from Brooklyn not New Joisey"

Worse. I'm pretty sure it's Staten Island.

I'd also like to take up for Buck Belue. It's easy to mistake him for arrogant, but I think he's simply a bright guy with a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor. There's a difference. And he should also get some sort of award for sitting across from Kincaid for so long without strangling him. That shows considerable restraint and willpower.

I see they are looking for a new female to take Sandra spot and they are going to have an open audition. I nominate Jane from the Zakk Tyler Morning Show. She seems like she could hang with the boys.

I've never thought of Buck as arrogant. I even went to one of UGA's rival schools and am never bothered by his style.

I wonder if "Win Chuck's Lunch" and the Applebee's sponsorship comes along with him to the Fan. Any idea when we may start to hear Chuck on the Fan?

Dude, we get it: you don't like Dimino. You've managed to work it into 90% of your posts over the past couple of years. Are you still carrying a grudge this many years later?

I was a fan of Chuck's for several years but his act has grown really stale recently: maybe a change of scenery will do him some good.
