After the cancellation of Señora Música con Douglas Peña programming 7-10AM Sundays on La Kalle since 12/28/08 because I'm so upset that I couldn't listen any Recuerdo programming around NYC and I'm tired playing new Spanish AC of all-time on 93.1 Amor and we want to get Recuerdo 105.9 to replace La Kalle Dos Salsa on HD2.

As the Spanish saying goes, "cuando los sapos bailen flamenco."

But do we have any Recuerdo programming on radio stations like WPAT, WSKQ, WADO-AM, WPAT-AM and others since Señora Música host has cancelled the station on December 28, 2008 from 105.9 La Kalle?

Geez I was hoping this was real. A Recuerdo format would be awesome here on HD2 (IF I could get 105.9's HD2 signal more than once a month) Their HD signal is too weak, but This market is far too saturated with Salsa. Umm, hello Radio execs ;)..., there are also some Dominicans here too in New York City that rarely listen to Salsa. Back in Santiago, Its Bachata and Merengue. But Recuerdo would do well with all New York Hispanic/Latin Groups, and it is definitely a format hole here that is often found in nearly every Latin American Radio Market.

Nore: Univision's syndicated Recuerdo format is 100% Mexican focused, and contains a high percentage of rancheras, norteñas, gruperas and such and would not be appropriate in New York.

You might be surprised, as long as its classic Mexican Ballads it wouldn't matter. It couldn't be 92.7 L Que Buena , by any means, but whenever I go back to Santiago, on the public city busses, the taxis, in the restaurants during christmas, I often hear classic ballads, almost always mexican, and people always know the words. Ana Gabriel, we hear her over and over and over, even at the ghetto pool halls, I can't tell you how many times Ive heard "Hechizo", or "Llegaaa Naaaavidad ("Navidad sin ti" by Marco Antonio Solis) Over and over, .. "Tu la misma de ayer", by Luis Miguel. I know atleast in the Dominican Republic everyone knows old Mexican music (NOT the new stuff or overly ranchero.), but Old romantic Mexican songs stil saturate the airwaves of santiago on multiple frequencies, and I mean decades old stuff.

Only a tiny percentage of Recuerdo's music is ballads... the rest is everything from Ramón Ayala to Angeles Azules and Bukis and Temerarios and Conjunto Primavera and Tiranos del Norte. In other words, mostly regional Mexican, fro the 70's to today.

Hmm, well, If they were willing to tweak it just enough, it could work. But too often Univision assumes that East Coast = West Coast, which simply isnt so. IF they are willing to realize the East Coast difference, they could easily target 93.1 Amor's audience. Which would atleast be worth it on the 92.7 frequency. Theyd likely retain La Que Buena's audience, and broaden to all Latinos. THey just HAVE to lave off the Mex Regional stuff, and stick to classic romantic stuff. I could easily see this done on 92.7
