References to Fox gone from KTVU website?

Just visited http://www.ktvu.com and noticed there are no references to the Fox network whatsoever. Wikipedia makes no mention of a dispute with the network and still shows their old logo with "FOX" under the top part of the "2." After what's happened with KRON since they lost their network affiliation, I can't imagine KTVU would want to walk down the same path. Any ideas as to what's going on?

I like it. The old classic "2" logo that I remember watching when I was a kid in Merced. KTVU was an independent powerhouse for a lot more years of it's past than it's history as a FOX affiliate. It's not an O&O so The Big 2 can really do whatever the hell it's wants as far as branding. Considering the predominately liberal makeup of the Bay Area perhaps KTVU wants to distance themselves from the FOX News brand with it's more rightward lean. It's not like The Ten O'Clock News is in any danger of losing it's long lived #1 slot.

I applaud The Big 2 for reclaiming the fact that they are a Bay Area institution first and foremost and also happen to relay FOX affiliate programming secondary.

Uh oh. I can see all the "Fox 4" speculation starting to fly again. I'm almost sure this means nothing. Fox and KTVU have had a very long mutually profitable arrangement. KTVU attracts more viewers than they would as an independent because people tune in for Fox network shows. I doubt they want to go back to the pre-Fox days. On the other side, Rupert Murdoch and the gang have nothing to gain by switching Fox affiliation to another channel. KRON? Spare me, please.

KTVU has been avoiding Fox branding in favor of their own for a long time now on the air. When they promo a Fox network show, they call it "KTVU Fox 2." . And those are the promos done by the Fox voiceover guy - same as you'll hear in other markets. Othewise it's "KTVU Channel 2." For example, all the reporters ID sign off with "(Name), KTVU Channel 2 News." It's never been "Fox 2 News." Ever. But do they use the Fox News reports as a resource for national stories during their news broadcasts? Of course they do.

They're probably the only TV station that still uses the word "channel" in their branding
Remember the slogan "There's Only One...Two" ?

Some of Cox's sisters also use "channel" as opposed to the network name -- Atlanta's WSB, Orlando's WFTV and Charlotte's WSOC (all ABC affils), to name a few.

If you look under the KTVU station information and EEO Statement you see KTVU Fox 2 listed.
KTVU/Fox 2 Employment Opportunities Internships KTVU/Fox 2 offers many intern opportunities in different departments, including News, and Community Affairs.

True, though that's a nominal mention. WSVN in Miami has only one visual reference to Fox on its website, but KTVU seems to win the prize for fewest Fox references on its home page.

Do I see, in the future: The Bay Area Tunes to KRON '4... FOX!'

No. you don't.

Yep, that won't happen. Why give up a strong affiliate like KTVU for a station like KRON that has really gone downhill?

KIRO-TV Seattle (CBS), KTVU's sister station also de-emphasizes their network affiliation but, I see that KTVU is not just a strong affiliate of FOX, it is part of Dish Networks' West Coast Distant Network Package which brings in almost those who live outside their local Big 4 affiliate. The East Coast package was Atlanta from 2006-2009 but was replaced by NYC.

But KRON being FOX after all that mess with NBC?! Well I would say, NOT! They deserve to stay independent MNTV.

KRON will probably be sold to some other old chump ownership which will likely belly up after they go Chapter 7 or 11. Belo, Hearst-Argyle and Gannett can't have KRON, so I have to say that KRON has officially jumped the shark.

Though the question is -- have KRON cleared the shark, or will the shark end up eating them?

KRON "jumped the shark" 7 or more years ago - the day the NBC affiliation ended and Young was faced with the prospect of having to service their enormous debt load with a large expensive news department and low rent syndicated programming.

Since then, it's been on life support.

MNTV should consider moving to KFTY if KRON decides to go Dark.

What? Why? Nobody can receive KFTY.

Comcast in San Francisco has been carrying KFTY for awhile now, though I'm not sure anybody but me has noticed. Not sure about other Bay Area cable outlets or satellite.

Having said that, KFTY would be a considerable come-down for "My" compared to KRON. More likely - KICU would pick it up, since sister KTVU runs Fox.

There will be no Fox affiliation for KRON anytime soon. KTVU is the best Fox Station because it is the only fox station to have its newscasts less tabloidal.

Speaking of KFTY. Should KFTY be in the basic tier instead of Digital 199 for comcast customers? Should it be on lets say channel 11, 24, or 30? I thought the FCC rule that cable companies are require to put ota channels in the basic tier per DMA?
