Remember when 93.5 KDAY was called 93.5 The Beat

Well when the Beat was on the air right around the time Brandy first came out in the 90's so I assume the song got heavy airplay. I remeber them playing Sittin Up In My Room from the Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack and Toni Braxtons Let It Flow. I didnt start listening to radio until 1996.
I have read a billboard article from January 7, 1995. I Wanna Be Down was No.1 on 92.3 The Beat from what I've read. Maybe Power 106 did play it when it came out in 1994. Still a hot song after 16 years.

Still nice but overplayed when it came out. Although her r&b songs from the mid 90's sound way better than her recent hits. Her music is now actually Old School.

I used sing along with that song when I was 1 years old and could barely talk. The video used be all over B.E.T. but now B.E.T. sucks. Things ain't the same no more.

BET is actually trying to get it together. Those reality shows are what bring it down. I do sometimes miss the videos all day but since Viacom took over its just like VH1 MTV and CMT Orignal syndicated programming Most of videos have moved over to Centric VH1 Soul and BET Hip Hop

106 & Park is not the same too much trap music.

It has to keep up with times. Nothing last forever. It's so far the longest countdown show on tv since TRL went off the air. I dont care for the host. AJ and Free were the best and Big Tigger was good as they get old they must move on like Don Cornulius from Soul Train.

Life Goes On. The Beat is not coming back KDAY's old school sound is the new beat of Los Angeles.

I hope that KDAY won't go current. I'm a little paranoid.

What's wrong with KDAY adding current stuff to their mix? It has a better signal than KJLH.
I don't want to hear no ringtone hip hop ever again especially on a station like KDAY. They sounded terrible in 2007-2009

Their signals sound the same to me. KJLH has a transmitter in Hollywood also but its only at 5 watts not really any difference. I gave KDAY credit because of the simulcast in Riverside on KDEY.
KDAY tried new music but it didnt work. If I was running the station Steve Harvey would not be my choice because of the music on his show. They would have been better off hiring local talent or importing other jocks from different cities. Like the good old days. Then they tried to be the Beat and they got their a### beat by the other stations.

LOL well if KDAY is around for the next 10 years you will hear ringtone hip hop. KDAY might add current music to the playlist later on down the road and make it KMEL but they gotta give it time to grow. So far their ratings have improved but with the new owners incharge I have a feeling they will make some tweaks. So far A.D. is doing a good job as PD. There's about 2,000 songs in the computer so I imagine it will get bigger. Its just that damn signal sucks. Too bad they cant a small watts translator to give it some power in the San Fernando Valley and San Gabieral Valley

On signal, that's what I meaning. They have a simulcast in the Inland Empire whereas KJLH has just it's one signal.

Looking at the calculated contours (not a real Longly-Rice calculation) it appears that KJLH has just a tiny bit better coverage than KDAY (without adding KDEY in). Both stations are in the same area on the Baldwin Hills... both are Class A's. KJLH is 5.6 kw at 338 feet HAAT, while KDAY is 4.2 kw at 384 feet above average terrain.

The 65 dbu of KDAY covers just over 3.7 million population, while KJLH covers just under 4.2 million.

I thought KJLH signal was in Compton since they still use the city ID at the top of the hour KJLH Compton Los Angeles maybe I was wrong. KDAY signal is still poor in some areas of the southbay area. I remeber around 2008 the whole upgrade signal promotion. Wendy Williams annoying voice Feel The Tower Now We Have More Power LOL........ ::) Also depends on the watts of your radio.

Hey David would a translator help these 2 stations get more coverage in the areas where their signal is poor. I know KOAS in Las Vegas and KAJM in Pheniox have done it in the past. On the 210 west the 134 west interchange to Glendale I notice some hills would that work?

They should play more 90's R&B. They do play Love Like This by Faith Evans, Dru Hill In My Bed(So So Def Remix) and Only You By 112 along with Peaches & Cream. But play some slow R&B from the 90's such as They Don't Know By Jon B., Cheers 2 U by Playa, Butta Love By Next, Anything By Jaheim the first two are from 1998 and the Jaheim song is from 2001. Those songs got mad on The Beat back in the day if anyone has suggestions about 90's R&B that should be played on KDAY hit me up.

If you contact A.D. at the station he might respond probally busy with the change ownership most of the weekend mixer has facebook pages and emails so you can contact them give them suggestion and they might work it out.

@WDB2003 New slow back in the day R&B suggestions: All the things by Joe, Soon As I Get Home By Faith Evans, Maybe I Deserve by Tank, Someone To Love You By Ruff Endz, Am I Dreaming by Ol' Skool Featuring Xscape, Missing You By Case, I Do ( Whatcha Say Boo) By Jon B. My most favorite slow R&B out of those is the Jon B. Song aforementioned above. Beautiful song. Meaningful lyrics. Great arrangement. I remember hearing that song every hour on the radio back in 1998. The video has a great concept to it. When BET played meaningful videos. The Beat had to play it at night. KJLH was at that time "focused". Power 106 never touched it. KHHT wasn't even thought of. Goodtimes. Hot 92.3 should play I Do by Jon B. that song should appeal to latinos just a thought.

KHHT is a rythnmic oldies stations meaning its just like all the other stations here on the westcoast KAJM in Pheniox, XHRM in San Dieago, KGMG in Tucsan and KOAS in Las Vegas. Their playist is tight and foucses on what latinos want to hear because they make up most of the station listeners. R&B songs that are familar with them. Also songs that appeal to whites and asain as well as blacks. And since its tweaking just to stay afloat you wont hear that much on the 90's on the station. KHYL in Sacramento and KQOD in Stockon sound way better than KHHT.

Hot 92.3 was better when Michelle Santosuso was PD

Yeah it sounded good to me but didnt fly with ratings nor Clear Channel management. The big promotion Forever Old School and Today's R&B my a## LOL ::) The whole celeb. morning show didnt work Sinbad, Mario Lopez, The Jamz Session with Diana Steele and Michelle plus they added a few hip hop tunes in the mix 50 Cent, Nelly, LL Cool J. They were trying to take on KKBT at the time since Steve Harvey was on top. Mike Marino came in around 2004 to reformat the station and focus more on Rythnmic Oldies with a few currents. It worked during that time and alot of Clear Channel Urban AC and Rythnmic Oldies stations did the same in Sacramento KHYL(sounds more rythnmic ac but leans towards oldies) Stockton KQOD,(way better almost a party station for that small town) San Fransico KISQ,(now back to rythnmic oldies) Monterey KOCN and Alberq. NM KSYU(no longer on the air now AC Lite FM). In other words all of these stations are in markets that are dominated by latino listeners so they have to appeal to them. Hearing non familiar r&b songs will drive them away I have seen it espically at my job and in my car with my friends. Sucks but it is what it is
