Reminder: WQXR Moves to 105.9 Starting October 8th

Get your airchecks ready for the biggest move in radio history since 1988 when WYNY moved its country format "Country 97" to "Country 103.5" and "Hot 103" to "Hot 97". WQXR is moving to 105.9 starting a week from Thursday. I'm going to record the last 3 1/2 hours of the old WQXR on 96.3 which I'm going to record from Time Warner Cable channel 590 until 8 PM. At 8 PM, I will go to channel 592 which is WNYC depending on your cable box in the Hudson Valley, I will record the launch of the new WQXR 105.9 which is being simulcast on WNYC. Hopefully this will be an historic moment for this awesome aircheck.

Keep checking it back next week until the switch takes place.

Not sure, Ive been asking that question earlier. It would make sense since 105.9's signal covers less of the area and would fill the gap, unless those translators were part of the deal and will hear La Kalle on them.

Will the new QXR keep the translators in Highland, Oakhurst, and Stamford?
Although I can't answer the question directly, because of its proximity, the Oakhurst translator would help either station. They both have problems "Neer" the 3rd adjacent.

The only spot where there's a problem for 96.3 is because of WRAT's stick which is right in the middle of Lake Como. Even then 96.7 comes in shady at that spot. Other than that, 96.3 is heard just fine around. It would make sense to simulcast 105.9 since it starts to fringe around Long Branch.

Luckily it is not in the middle of the lake...

Seriously though, When WQXR becomes 105.9, The "RAT" will not be the problem. "Hit 106(.3)" will play havoc with it. 96.7 will sit just fine on the Garden State Park(ing Lot)way at #105.

They are about the same "crow flies" from 96.7. Just 95.9 is a little further south from Empire. But Rat plays havoc with 'PLJ as well and has since 1968. I have used those three stations for years for real world testing of the selectivity of radios I've had. WPAT and WMMR were the other two.

The pointy-head types can do all the FCC proofs and parameters all they want, if the receivers are no good, the listener is gone.

Actually, the transmitter is near #100 ;D

The transmitter for 96.7 is at #100. I was refering to 106.3 @105 since there was where the front end problems were going to disrupt listening comfort for the new 'QXR.

Well, if it can be answered, let's see if 96.7 will still simulcast WQXR, or we welcome La Kalle's broadcast.

The Oakhurst used to be a 3rd party translator. It relayed Z-100, then 92.7 WOBM-FM, then 104.9 WRDR, then WQXR. I doubt that it was included in the sale.

Only three more days left until I'm going to record this aircheck this coming Thursday which will be the end of WQXR 96.3 before moving over to 105.9 at 8 PM. I'm going to record this aircheck of the last day of 96.3 WQXR this coming Thursday. I'm going to post it by maybe Friday or Saturday.

Just a reminder that tomorrow will be the last day of WQXR at 96.3 until the station is moving to 105.9. I might be recording this aircheck until my Time Warner Cable at 590 is actng up, because it is still off, but it shows a black screen. I'll have to do that by tomorrow when I reboot this cable box so that I can get it working. If not, maybe someone will record this aircheck or maybe in the Format Change Archive site.

Maybe this would be better as its own thread...

How are individuals going to treat the 'QXR change tomorrow?

I will have two car radios, one on 96.3 the other one on 105.9 and a Radio Shack AM/FM on 96.7.

I might need a life, too... :)

Guess we will find out what W244As will simulcast tomorrow night since nobody knows if QXR will still be there.

Additionally, the La Kalle website doesn't mention the station's move to 96.3 tomorrow, but instead has a video that says "A new Spanish-language radio station is coming to 96.3 very soon." Sounds like there's at least a name change on the way there.

Well, at least NOW it makes sense for 105.9 to be stransmitting on 96.7. You mentioned La Kalle not being called 96.3 La Kalle, if so,what could Univision have in store tonight

Hey buddy, W244AS is simulcasting La Kalle. You sure QXR is being simulcasted on the translators

Prior to 8 PM, the 96.3 loop was a just a lead in to the 8 PM hour that started with a great Pitbull song in its very cool long version.

La Kalle 105.9 ended at 8 PM.

Question, will they still be La Kalle or are they getting a new name, all I am hearing is the VO guy saying 96.3 FM.
