Reminder: WQXR Moves to 105.9 Starting October 8th

It sounds like La Kalle is dead, and a new Spanish-language format is coming to 96.3FM on October 15 at 6:00 a.m... but the mixshow CHR playlist of the stunting makes you wonder.

Encarta,

Where did you get that link from. W244AS is simulcasting 96.3 and not QXR. So either someone put a transmitter on their own or Univision got them translators.

I cited it in my post: it's on the WNYC website at http://www.wnyc.org/music/articles/142169. Maybe somebody from WNYC has to manually go out to the translator and make the needed changes.

Yeah, they have to change the station on the radio - High Tech translator...

It was pretty seamless, though. I was expecting about 10-15 seconds of dead air. It didn't happen on any of the stations.

That's what threw me off, only about three seconds of dead air on both stations and poof. I was expecting a little more from "La Kalle's" opening but it was just the TOH ID and straight to the mixshow. As for QXR, they had it better, with the last our looking back at the past 65 years of history, and now a new chapter for them on 105.9. I wonder what Univision has in store since "La Kalle" will be something else. Wow, this will be something with both 96.3 and La Mega battling it out since they are separated by Hot 97.

I can't vouch for reliability but the Wikipedia site for WQXR has the frequency of W244AS as 105.9. That entry can be changed anytime.

Well, Univision no longer has excuses. They just got a full Class B station. If they still can't make a dent on La Mega's numbers then they're not utilizing the frequency as best as possible.

Oh, the only thing that is next to 105.9 in CT is BLI from Long Island. You are probaly hearing interference from them

Most likely he is hearing WHCN 105.9 "The River" from Hartford.

well whatever it is... now WQXR is gone for all of us up here

isn't there supposed to be some re-transmitter in stamford?

My Time Warner Cable in the Hudson Valley had WQXR ran on channel 590 is now gone, because it is now static. I can't anything, but in fact, I record the relaunch of the new WQXR earlier tonight. I will be posting it by this weekend. Stay tuned!

The only problem they have is in Newark, and for only one reason. Streetz 96. Will Univision put an end to the pirate, or will Streetz dominate over La Kall.......I mean, WCAA.

Is the new WQXR's COL Newark (as the old WCAA's was)?
Yes, the same as the ID on 96.3 is "WCAA, New York".

The COL's don't change because the Frequency is assigned to the COL not the Call sign. The Call sign is aligned with the business for identification purposes. "ID", get it?

BTW, the 96.7 radio is still tuned to 96.3. That may change today, or tomorrow, or the next few days, whenever they get there to change the dial on the radio at the translator.

Eventually QXR will return to 96.7. Until then, enjoy "La Kalle" or "96X" or whatever they calling 96.3 on 96.7

Thought I just said that...

I'm currently listening to WQXR on their new 105.9 frequency in mid-Manhattan, just off Times Square. At 27 floors up, it's a bit of a DX catch on my little Sony portable. I had to collapse the antenna completely and play with the position of the radio to get a signal. This is a very tough RF environment.

I heard them this morning sorting through the new schedule and air personalities. Things are still very much in flux. Some programs are airing at different times temporarily.

A lot of former listeners apparently can't hear the station on the new frequency, while others are getting a better signal (as would be expected). They just mentioned on the air that they are getting reports of better reception to the north of the city. They are also asking for listener contributions and telling people to tune in on the Internet if that is an option.

I hope they can keep classical music on the New York radio dial. It would be a shame if America's greatest city lost its last remaining classical programming.
