RENDA JUST DID ANOTHER GREAT MOVE ON CC!!!

Okay here we go.....Renda and Gator are sponsoring the Suwannee River Jam coming up in April....nothing WQIK website about the Suwannee River Jam...or nothing Rooster's website...did the people who put on Suwannee finally got sick of something at CC or what or did Renda do something to get that.....does anyone know??? Gator is making another move to become the dominate country leader in Jax.....we know they have to beat WQIK but they have already beaten Rooster....hummmm

This could be the beginning of the end for CC. That's what
CC gets for pulling that Gator crap.

Agree 100 percent with you.....CC needs to prepare for war because Renda is bringing it on now.....and wait until the Renda stations start streaming online.....and it is coming soon from what I am told....does anyone know exactly when.....otherwise Gator and WQIK will soon battle out on the airwaves like what Gator and Cat Country has done in Ft Meyers....I am ready to see the good old days of competition return.....remember when Rooster and WQIK use to battle out all of the time....heck it is not that way now....hey Renda did killed one of the CC country stations down in Ft Meyers and the same is going to happen here soon.....well later.

As I've said before, I really love your enthusiasm - especially for the underdog. Outdoor events, concerts etc. are a help but that's not, by itself, the means by which one radio station topples another.

Can what happened in Ft. Myers happen in Jax? Perhaps over the long run. But one thing for sure is WQIK has name-recognition and a lot of radio listening is done out of habit. I've been wrong before but personally I can't see Gator out performing QIK anytime soon. If a real battle were to take place, CC can outspend Renda by a mile.

Well true but when you look at what Gator just did by offering a very good camping site to listners for a rate proabaly cheaper than what most will pay for then people in the area going to see that and when they do I can see dial positions changing. But CC has let themselves get out of control by controling both country stations in one market and now the nail is hitting them in the wood because they have competition and they know sooner or later that they will have to kill Rooster off and that many if not all of the stations employees will be let go....now for Trane.....he could very easily go over to KISS if that was to happen....watch ratings go up there....but it would be a long shot.....but otherwise CC downgraded Rooster by giving it a 50kw signal so that is only a sign of things to come for a station that was so good back in its day. Otherwise Renda is having some fun with CC is that they know that with Rooster on a subpar city grade signal compare to Gators superior city grade signal that they know can win more listners over to there station esp south of the city where you cant even really pickup Roosters signal worth a crap unless you have a very good radio. Later

Teryl Dean one of the big sellers at WQIK/WROO moved to WGNE a few months ago. He is getting all of his old clients on Gator. That is how they got Suwannee. Gator also has another free concert series starting in March with some pretty big names.

All this will help them greatly. Plus on the billing side they are doing well for a new station

Like I said back in the begining that CC was doomed from the start when Gator moved in from market 94 to market 48. And when Renda manages to take away one of the best people dealing with adverstising from CC and brings them to their office then there is a lot to be said of Renda is doing a lot to get WGNE to be the top rated country station.....it seems that a lot of the clients got fed up with CC and have jumped ship and went to Renda. And now since they have landed the Suwannee River Jam it is big for them....WQIK is now going to see side affects due to Gator being in town now.....for the concert series.....they just need to keep on going with it....something WQIK use to do years ago but look at it now as CC does not care totally to do that........heck Roosters one free concert does not match up to about six free concerts that have been done and I am seeing what I just saw if the new free concert series is going to have some pretty bigh names on the headlines......look for big crowds of 10,000 to 15,000 to show up where ever they are at.....people know what Gator is and people will catch on if they have not......Gator may not have to have billboards to get the station to be top rated.....hey does Gator have any billboards right now??? What about KOOL?? Just intrested to know...well later.

Long Hard Road

Fall to Fall, Gator is up from 19th to 15th; QIK has slipped from 2nd to 4th. The share-and-a-half (12+) lost by QIK sure looks like the share-and-a-half gained by Gator. That's the easy part: WQIK's P-3's. The next share-and-a-half (the P-2's) is gonna be tougher; it might take 2 years... and would bring Gator within 2 shares. Those last couple of shares--trying to cut into QIK's P-1's--could take another couple of years. (Remember, we're talking about knocking off a station with a 30-year head start). So we might be looking at 2009 or 2010 before crowning Gator the Country Champ. Assuming CC doesn't get pissed off and defend themselves... or (more likely) crack out the checkbook and buy Gator--or Renda, for that matter. Just saying that as admirable as Renda's efforts may be, it's a long, hard road they've put themselves on. And this ain't the old days when it was programmer-vs-programmer.

Re: Long Hard Road

Imposible here for CC to buy out the Renda stations.......CC is maxed for the number of stations they own in Jacksonville.......Renda would not even sell out to CC so I lets just see what Renda does with Gator and how soon they become champ....I would assume sooner then 2009 or 2010. It is a matter of how music is played and who you have as DJ's. Gator has that with the music and the DJ's. Later.

OKAY HERE!!

okay I am going to be nice....one i am just seeing what I have seen in the last 24 hours and two when you read all of the other post put on by the others you may see that why CC is now all of sudden having trouble with their two country stations...when one of your top advertising people jumps ship and goes to another company clients are going to do the same and seems that is happening...Renda will be making money trust me......Renda has a very superior future coming for Gator.....later.

mburg

no I am not a CC/Cox hater it is just that Renda seems to have done something right for once and CC has to pay the price for mistakes....it is not all about corporate radio here.

OKAY

You act like everybody is quivering in the corner at the thought of Renda radio dominating them. Every little thing they do is blown up (by you) as if defeat is imminent for Clear Channel and Renda can claim victory.

Sheesh, they have 2 stations barely in the Top 15. Just keep it in perspective.

Re: OKAY

Yes I do see that but this time we are talking about a major event once held by WQIK and Clear Channel as sponsors and they have jumped ship over to Gator....do you see what I am getting at.......when CC loses a event like that to sponsor then listners will eventually realize who has it and will jump over....People will make the switch over because lots of people from Jax look forward to every year when they can win tickets....and Gator will gain off the benfits of having sponsor major events like this. They are going for what the listner wants and that I like....later.

OKAY

But stuff like this, in the overall big picture, is like a small pebble on a super-highway. You might feel a slight bump but you just keep cruisin' along.
It will not cause you to veer off the road and crash into a tree.

NOT a major deal.

Okay I understand but I just like it how Renda did manage to steal the event from CC.......okay CC could had fought but did not.

Re: OKAY

Will GNE ever beat QIK probalby not anytime soon. I do beleive that WROO will go away by the end of the year.

GNE is doing a great job of attracting listeners by the free concerts, Suwanee and programming. If they can pull CC country to their events they can hopefully pick up more P1 and P2 from both stations.

The bottom line is billing and for a station that has not been in the market very long they are doing well. I imagine they will end up with over 1 million this year.
Edited by Braswell on 02/25/06 06:40 PM.

CC

My bet is that it hasn't occoured to you that CC didn't "fight" to keep it because they may have deemed it not THAT major a loss. It may feel like a giant win for Renda but CC may see it as no great loss at all.

Realistically, it was a LOT cheaper for the advertiser to switch to a newer and unproven competitor than fork over the big bucks for WQIK. Rememeber, a lot of business relationships are built on professional friendships that were nurtured over the years. It's not uncommon for an AE to go to another station and take some of their clients with them.

As a good example, I guarantee that the advertisers you hear on the new KOOL that were also on the old COOL were because of prior relationships with the seller. It certainly isn't a result of the ratings or the product, right?

Re: OKAY

Thanks.....I am sticking with Renda on this. Clear Channel has down graded Rooster in the last several months that we see death soon...When Rooster dies there will only be two country stations left...Gator or WQIK....which one will people more likely land at??? It is there choice but knowing that the power that Dixie holds on the market as the most successful female DJ for country music in Jacksonville many would drift over to Gator. Also for not even being here a year they have done one heck of job by not looking like they have been here for such a short time. Oh by the way have they set a date yet when the streaming online will take place for the Renda stations??? Just wonderning.
