REPORT: GSN Cancels Playmania/Quiznation

Playmania, which has had more than a year as a multiweekly post-midnight interactive viewer contest, has been canceled by GSN effective Oct. 31. according to http://www.tvgameshows.net . Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will take over the 12 midnight to 1 a.m. slot (EDT/PDT) on Mondays-Saturdays. GSN will expand repeats of Trivia Trap with Bob Eubanks and Jack Narz's Now You See It to Tuesdays-Saturdays at 1 and 1:30 AM EDT/PDT respectively. I would like to get your thoughts on Playmania/Quiznation and what led up to the cancellation of the show in your opinion?

This seems as if it was taken straight from a press release with out much editing.

When Mel Peachey left the show, I stopped watching.

I always thought that was a dubious move for a former Spice Girl...

Well it was getting rid of garbage.
Now what to do you think?

The novelty of this show wore off pretty quickly. Once Mel left, I pretty much lost interest, and I've heard the show just kept getting worse. So no complaints here, especially since this is leading to more episodes of the rare '70s gem Now You See It.

I think the show is OK, and I've even entered online a few times but never got picked. Most of the questions seemed too easy, so I think it could be improved by making them a little more tricky. I guess it would cut down on viewer participation, though, so it's a no-win situation.

Maybe if they have one of the hosts throw up on the set every so often, more people would tune in. ;D

Mel Peachey was NEVER a spice girl, your thinking of Mel B.

Having this show on almost every day of the week is what burn off the novelty really quick. If they would've struck to the weekends airings and not expand it so much, then people wouldn't gotten so sick of it.

GSN should replace it with reruns of Price is Right with Bob Barker since the next set of the CBS reruns will feature Drew Carey. I know CBS shown reruns this past summer, but I'm talking about the pre-2007 ones.

Now they need to get all those crap reality shows they have on there off!

The only one they have left is The Amazing Race which has been relegated to late nights

From what I've read, GSN has tried to get the rights to the show, but CBS has a death grip on it.

"Playmania/Quiznation" was just the most random, half-baked game show I have ever seen. I'm not quite sure how the mechanics of the thing were supposed to work as far as entry via texting, online, etc, but it seemed like it routinely took 10 to 15 minutes to get answers to the most basic questions. Then there were the "Name A Famous Actor Whose First Name Starts With 'S'"-type questions that were, again, just random. Maybe the concept could have been tweaked so that it would have worked, but as it was, it was extremely poorly executed. As for its replacement, what is the chance of bringing back the old overnight b/w lineup?

CBS should show the old reruns late night during the week like NBC does with showing poker and on weekends when their isn't football or the games at 4:05pm instead of 1:00pm.

Haven't watched GSN since they stopped showing Black & White Overnight. I loved getting up and watching To Tell the Truth and What's My Line.

..."I've Got a Secret" was the best of that lot, with the Fred Allen "What's My Line" and "Password" runners-up...
