Reports: Roku discusses selling itself to media company

Note this is a preliminary report and I would like to know who the candidates are for Roku if approved.

Roku, a popular stateside brand of streaming hardware and smart TVs, has held discussions with at least one media company focused on a sale, according to multiple reports published on Friday.

The reports — first from Bloomberg, then from Reuters — caused Roku’s stock to rise more than 20 percent in after-hours trading. The reports were based on unnamed sources, and the identity of the media company was not reported.

It is not uncommon for media and entertainment companies to selectively leak details of possible transactions during an exploratory phase in order to see how the broader market reacts to the news. It wasn’t clear if that was the case here, since none of the reports offered much detail into how the discussions between Roku and its possible suitors were progressing.

get the feeling the media company in question is Comcast/NBCUniversal as well possibly the spin off company of Versant (which i'm sure is sort of owned by Comcast via share holding of shares of stocks of the new company, as well as helping them out with running the network until they can get things going without NBCUniversal help).

i don't know if Nexstar is wanting a piece of that streaming pie too.

"Hold up everybody. David Ellison's on line three.....David? Are you there?...Da-David you're going to have to turn off the speaker on the other phone.....Yes David, Turn. Off. The. Speaker. On. The. Other. Phone, please. I can't hear you over the president screaming...."

So I’m going to dump all my Roku stuff

Presumably that's your way of protesting because you don't like the Murdochs and the political leanings of FOX News or their other properties, and neither do I. But to answer your question...

Apple TV worth it, or fire stick.

Well, Apple has shown its willingness to kiss the ring. Tim Cook gave Trump a customized plaque with a 24-karat gold base and said “thank you” to him nine times in two minutes at a White House dinner with all the tech bros.

Firestick is an Amazon product. You know, the company founded by Jeff Bezos who went on to buy the Washington Post and put his finger on its political coverage long before the Ellisons did the same at CBS.

So, what are you really hoping to accomplish by dumping Roku? America has become a corporatocracy where the vast majority of corporate leaders support Republicans in order to get tax breaks for their companies and their wealthy executives, especially themselves.

It's practically impossible to boycott large companies because the only alternative is usually having to do business with the next large company doing the same thing. This true not just in media, but every sector in America now.

That said, this kind of consolidation is rarely good for consumers and I loathe Roku's new owners, so the sentiment is understandable.

I’m looking at it more from a privacy standpoint. Apple will be more cautious with data than Fox/Roku.

Then Apple TV. For starters, it doesn't have Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) software to track you. You can opt out of sharing device analytics, disable location services, and deny apps permission to track your activity across other apps.

I have never been a fan of Apple and its walled garden ecosystem, but the way data harvesting is accelerating and is now compounded by AI, I'm reconsidering my own platform choices too.

This is not a Democrat or Republican thing. You don't think these same companies are doing the same crap with the Democrats when they're in charge? Don't confuse how you interpret their "brand" with them doing what they need to do as a corporate entity operating in this country. All of them are playing both sides. To think otherwise is delusional at best.

Heres more updates at play with Roku and Fox inc as they are in the process of coming together.
