Retro Network Having Problems?

I've noticed consistent problems with RTV in my market (Phoenix) and am wondering if it is local or national?

Over the past few weeks there has been a definite audio/video sync issue on multiple programs.

And frequently the audio is very over-modulated. Even with the audio turned way down there is noticeable distortion.
 
Not to mention running the same Adam-12 episode two days in a row,
or repeating the same Dragnet episode a few days later. (Those are
just the facts, ma'am. ;))

Oh, and one recent Adam-12 ran out of order--the epilogue/credits
segment rolled about halfway in, then it picked up from where it left
off.

And in general, they're often slotting breaks in the wrong place--
some shows have a short prologue before the first break, but RTV
goes right after the open; they've also screwed up placement of
the "mini-credits" near the top (breaking after instead of before).
 
I've noticed those problems as well. Since you and I are in different markets I am guessing RTV is a sat feed and the problems are common to the network.
 
We can get RTN from two stations [when the weather is normal] and they are always running different shows. Lots of times the credits will run in the middle of the hour and new parts of other shows will be interspersed. All the technological glitches kind of makes it more "retro" sometimes. LOL
 
Their new Louisville affiliate, WBNA-DT, has hellish signal problems and can't be received over-air in a large chunk of the city, including the densely-populated Downtown area.

Having the same sync problem in Fresno. The audio is a split second ahead of the video.

Here the audio has been trailing video and it is quite noticeable. Maybe it goes both ways and I just haven't noticed it. It is very noticeable on "McHale's Navy" but not as bad on other shows so maybe it is the media they are using and not an actual broadcast problem.

But they're not going to build an audience with lousy audio, even though the programs are old.

Actually your right it is the other way the video is ahead of the audio,and the sound quality is quite crappy , it's definetly the feed when KAIL 7.2 carries the SF Giants games it's fine, same way with the commercials.
 
The RTN affiliate in Hartford sounds very rough lately. I'm pretty sure before it sounded fine a few weeks ago.

I have absolutely no problem receiving WBNA 75 miles east of Louisville in Lexington. I am glad they have added the Retro Network to the 6 signals they put out. WBNA DT is on VHF Channel 8, so you need the right antenna (VHF) to do the job. In fact, WBNA and WBKI are the ONLY TWO Louisville DT stations I can get 100% of the time here. WHAS and WLKY are about 50% while the others, including WAVE, are rarely seen. My antenna is a small Radio Shack VHF/UHF combo up about 50 feet...and NO, I don't live on top of a hill, either. In fact, I am in a slight valley.
 
Same with WSB-TV 2.2/Atlanta. Oftentimes, the wrong show airs. A couple of weeks ago, the national feed was on instead.

The problem is that RTN (or RTV or whatever they are today) has customized feeds that have to be programmed (mostly by a human, but the automation software probably has features to help). No two affiliates are alike. Also, Luken (the current owner) had to cobble together the current NOC in Chattanooga virtually overnight when former owner Equity pulled the plug. The combination of human and machine issues come together to cause these problems.

One solution would be to switch to a national feed with local ad-insertion at the local TV station studios.

The only trouble is that the rights to some of the programs on the national feed may be already called for by the local non-RTV outlet in the same city, making customised versions necessary. The only other alternative would be for the local RTV affiliate to show an alternate program locally over the one that they don't have rights to.
 
When I was watching Midnight Monster Hop last night at 10PM EST The host segments audio was off a bit.

It still gets me that why does any station wants to broadcast on the VHF band? VHF 13 is the only good VHF channel to broad cast a DTV signal.
 
WNWO, Toledo has RTV as it's secondary channel & I've got the same problems as everyone else. Plus they really should create some new promos instead of just the two they use now- the one with Alfred Hitchcock & the Hulf & the other with the 4 different sized RTV logos bobbing back & forth. I saw the same episode of marcus Welby M.D air 2 days in a row last week. I have a hellacious time getting it in with the Vizio antenna that came with our digital t.v. There's another RTV out of Detroit on WXYZ's secondary channel(7.2) but I have no chance of picking that up.

Boy the special effects in the movie they were showing were pretty cheesey.

Yeap...that's why it's called the "Midnight Monster Hop." Don't expect anything really good to come out of it, but laughs and enjoyment. (Almost like Mystery Science Theater 3000.)
 
Is RTV network feed by broadband or dish?

Midnight Monster Hop did aired a Gamera last week.

IMO that the good Gamera movies was the first three movies, the mid 1990's trilogy, and the current Gamera the Brave.
