Retro Network Having Problems?

I'm not at all surprised, KR4BD, that you can see WBNA-DT Channel 8 so far out from the transmitter at Brooks, KY. That's an advantage to living out away from the city! The problem here in the city is close-in terrain shielding from hills situated between their antenna site (Brooks, Bullitt Co., KY) and the city of Louisville proper. These hills, north of the tower, which is itself shorter than most in height, obliterate the digital signal for most viewers in the shadow zone.

You name it, from downtown high-rises with MATV system antenna elements rotated right at Brooks (bearing 190 degrees from my building), through sets with built-in ATSC tuners, to set-top amplified antennas feeding DTV converter boxes at street-level apartments, there's a wide area of the city that WBNA-DT doesn't reach over the air.

And it'll be even harder in some spots when Museum Plaza (height 706') goes up, and worse still if the 886' tower rumored to be on the drawing board for downtown Louisville comes into being. If I were WBNA management, I'd be looking into a low-power repeater or translator in the Floyds Knobs, IN antenna farm just NW of the city. Even with the good cable penetration in the market, they're blind to too many screens...and ratings meters!

The continuity and production problems continue...

Today's McHale's Navy aired sometime in the past two weeks.

There were no opening titles--it went from the prologue to the
"mini credits" (which are supposed to follow the first break), to
what I don't know.

I'm pretty sure the affils are aware of these glitches, so maybe if
the RTV folks read this thread... ???

I was thoroughly confused Sun. nite/ Mon. morning. Data buton on my remote said it was "Kraft Suspense Theatre" & the show was of an alcoholic professor trying to prove another man guilty of murder. I only caught about 15 minutes of it, then all of a sudden when the plot starts to thicken...the credits roll! It looked like it may have been an episode of "The Saint", but the credits definately rolled too early.

And even when Kraft Suspense Theatre runs in the
Kraft Suspense Theatre timeslot, the programs use
its syndication title Crisis.

At least it's not 16mm film, although the 35s don't
always look that good.

I watched this same program that night, nightfly61. It was the series referenced by oldiesfan6479 in the post after yours. I saw a theme song, but the opening credits moved pretty quickly and I saw what appeared to be the title "Crisis." I had never heard of such a program but upon further Internet research realized it was a syndicated title used for "Kraft Suspense Theater." For a second or two, I was thiking it was "The Saint" as well. I haven't seen that show in ages!

I got RTV here in Milwaukee through a subchannel on my FOX affiliate, WITI (Channel 6), a week ago. As of this writing I still don't know the complete RTV schedule in my city. The schedule is somewhat limited because we have a similar channel, MeTV, from Weigel Broadcasting - that much I do know. My on-screen guide through my converter box is hit or miss (sometimes it has listings, sometimes it doesn't) and the RTV site (which is down as I write this) has yet to post the WITI schedule. So, I just flip it on from time to time, trying to figure out what I'm watching!

It's also sad that weeknights after(I think) Night Gallery ends at 1:30 or 2 am they go ITV (Infomercial T V!!!) until at least 7:30 or 8am! Then it's some cheesy morning talk show.
Overnights they should run old Night Stalkers, Twilight Zone, Bowery Boys or Charlie Chan movies. Between 5 & 7:30 should be retro Great Space Coaster, Smurfs, Battle Of The Planets, Barnaby or Captain Kangaroo.

They finally did post the schedule...more rare 50's and 60's stuff than 70's or 80's it seems just based alone on WBME's rights being heavy on the big name programs from all four decades. I enjoy having the variety of both MeTV and RTV in Milwaukee...the RTV channel in Green Bay on WBAY mostly duplicates Me TV outside of the primetime shows (which are more weekend shows for Me TV). They're also much lighter on paid programming in the morning, which is a relief.

The only odd program...Munsters Today? Really RTV, there are a bunch of Munster-nuts demanding a show in the same "really, the reunion movie was enough, seriously" category as The New Leave it to Beaver?

Would you also take issue if RTV ran "What's Happening Now!" and/or "What's Happening?"

I'm sorry to hear their problems are wide spread. I was really looking forward to RTV but have been severely disappointed. They have a crappy signal. They don't have much variety in programming. Their audio stinks. And they repeat shows too often.

They need a major overhaul before I tune in again.

RTV schedules are custom to fit the afillates schedules. This also hold true with This TV. They show infomercials at 8pm to 9pm on WCMH 4.2 then Airwolf.

Infomercials are revenue generator for stations.

Senor Tuna--can we send Malloy and Reed over to investigate?

"1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12...a 415, unknown disturbance involving
RTV on channel 7.2...see the man at the Tuna house in Tempe.
1-Adam-12 handle code two."

"1-Adam-12, roger."

"Jim, better ask if Mac can back us up. I've dealt with this guy before
and we always wind up calling the sergeant out."

"1-Adam-12, requesting 1-L-90 meet us on tach two."

"KMA367." ;D

But he's right. RTV (again) ran an Adam 12 yesterday that had aired
just within the past two weeks or so.

The difference was "What's Happening Now!" was actually good and was created about 5-6 seasons after the original ended, so it just felt like a pause in the action. TNLITB and MT just felt like blatant grabs at cash and nostalgia and even though I watched them when I was younger, even then I knew it was awkward and not well done.

Does anyone know technically why all the repeats? I just saw the same "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" AGAIN...with Jack Klugman that was on within a week. Does someone come in once a week, hit "random" on the player & whatever plays plays until it's time to come back & change discs?
Evening programs could be better also. Even as a kid I could only handle so much A-Team. Everyone loves WKRP- why not run a couple of those btb (the versions with the REAL versions of hit songs in them!)

;D ;D ;D

And BTW, yesterday (Friday) "Reed" had a bit part on McHale's Navy (as an army courier/German spy).

Thanks for the update! It's nice to finally see WITI's complete schedule. I, too, am surprised by the limited (compared to some RTV affiliates) infomercials. With WBME claiming rights to some of RTV's shows, I would have thought the schedule would've been heavy on the paid programs.

RTV lineup made up of TV series that are between one to three seasons. With a few exceptions. Munsters Today last longer than the original series.

The afillates pick witch episodes to air.

Thankx for the info willcail. If the affiliates are the ones doing the choosing (and also the engineering of their signal) then it is time for an email campaign to notify AZTV they are not doing a good job serving the Phoenix market.

We used to have Haggerty to kick around but he's on to bigger/better things. Who to call now?

Retro TV is a great idea but AZTV doesn't seem to be paying attention. :(

I see they have shows like Amen (but not the Jeffersons), Elery Queen, Harry & the Hendersons(but not Alf) & Simon & Simon. WNWO, Toledo has none of the above, yet runs "It Takes a Thief days, nights & Sundays. more decent ones they could run:
Enos
Kaz
Cannon
Vegas
Tenspeed & Brownshoe
Batman
My Three Sons
Love Boat
Fantasy Island
...and I exclaim to the fact...WKRP!!!

You have to remember that RTV is design for digital sub-channels. There are afillates that are not on sub-channels but these are the exception.

It comes down to how much the current owners of RTV wants to spend to obtain the rights to any TV series. They want to keep cost down. This isn't TV Land and you can't expect them to be.

There are rights issues when it comes to the 1960's Batman live action series. The series was made before DC Comics become the property of Warner Bros.

With This TV/Me TV TV series comes from MGM's library. At least the ones that they still have the rights to.
