Rick Dees Joins Journey 97.9

Just heard that they are adding him starting Monday 3pm-7pm. Thank goodness. I have been preaching about getting him back in Atlanta radio for the last four years. Maybe we will get classic American Top 40s with Casey Kasem on the weekends too.

Sounds good, I like his sound. ;D

That would be sweet. I always thought that AGH and/or B98.5 should have picked it up.

Ricks owns his own syndicated network. Either Westwood One or Citdeal syndicated the Weekly Top 40. Which now explains why hes not live in the morning on KHHT here in Los Angeles. But hey congrats to the new station.

So how old is Rick Dees 60 something?

Looks like I can avoid Journey in the mornings for the foreseeable future. And how will this affect The Regular Guys (any Dees/TRG overlap)? I'm still not much into the Project guy, but if he can keep getting interviews like The Beastie Boys while TRG is doing that "Sexy Bros" crap or the 40,000th edition of Regular Guys Squares I'll probably be switching over more often.

It's going to be a short journey if they can't fix the processing. It sounds horrible! But not as bad as 106.7 - the winner for the worst sounding FM station in town.

It's probably customized, like John Tesh and Ryan Seacrest's "On Air" show, to allow stations to play it at anytime.

It is, and I believe Cumulus has a deal to air him on most of their AC's and/or CHR's.

So does this mean that someday we might hear the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdown on Q100?

Rick Dees? Really? Ugh........... this is why I HATE terrestrial radio.

The funny side of this post (besides Mr. Rhodes hating everything) is that Rick Dees is also on Satellite Radio. You can't talk about hating syndication or voice tracking then love XM/Sirius. That's the ultimate Voicetracking machine.

There are a lot of things to hate about radio, but Rick Dees isn't one of them. The man's a broadcasting legend.

I'll add that he is also one of the nicest superstars in the business with zero ego. He's old-school, and that's cool because I'm, well, old. :)

While Seacrest thinks he's funny, Dees IS funny. I'll take Dees over 99% of the pretenders out there.

Dees is voicetracking mornings in LA and it sounds canned. He's a great live performer, but not good at voicetracking. They even have him faking talking to winners.. "Who is this please" "Well thanks so much for listening, you just won a hundee" "Who made you a winner?" It's mailed in. Maybe once an hour he refers to the artist that was just played. Out of spots it's often a jingle into a song. No time check. He says "Dees Sleaze coming up!", and they run it over and over again .

I guess he's not being paid anything from CC for this. It's good for him to get an affiliate in LA of course.

Prepare to be disappointed.

Yep, I am thinking the same thing. Unfortunately.
