Ricky The K's Solid Gold Time Machine

Re: Fair enough, however the bottom line about this guy...

In fact...Ricky the K is the ultimate "mom and pop" operation (without mom). He lives in a lower middle class neighborhood in a small house and he built a totally soundproof recording studio in his backyard. His original plan was to send the show to listeners via a satellite link.

Ricky the K lives an unextravigant life and probably finances his show on a shoestring. He is as far from LARGE CORPORATE as anyone can get.

As to voice tracking: Ricky does it the old fashioned way with carts and a board that uses vaccuum tubes (purchased from a company in Republic of Hungary). He likes the "warm" sound produced by tubes. He does his show live, even utilizing the analogue clock on the wall for the correct time.

His "staff" probably consists of an engineer that he hires to work on the board to make it sound the way that he wants it to sound.

I find alot of hipocracy in you. On one hand you say how good Ricky The K's show is and how he is a professional and a perfectionist and yet you don't see fit to be a subscriber. Are you the cheapest person on earth?

Re: Fair enough, however the bottom line about this guy...

I am overloaded with great stuff on the internet. I have thousands of airchecks of great radio from the sixties and seventies and a drawer full of Ricky The K doing his solid gold time machine on KOMA.

Just so I would have some of his internet show, I subscribed for a month and recorded the show. He does not sound as good as he did at KOMA or when he first started on internet. A friend gave me some recordings of Ricky during his first year.

How is he not as good?

At KOMA and earlier on his show, he would go into funny dialogues with Tonto. He also had some great joke lines and funny stories. He does not do that very much now.

Ricky is still good and has a great show, but he seems a bit tired. Kind of like he needs a rest or vacation.

If you want to hear the difference, I can send you a tape of Ricky at KOMA.

Re: Fair enough, however the bottom line about this guy...

I disagree with you. I think that Ricky is much better than when he was on KOMA, even though he was great on KOMA also. Every week on the show is a new adventure. Some weeks he does more stuff with Tonto, some weeks he does less stuff with Tonto. The weeks that he does less stuff with Tonto, he does other unique things. That's one of the things that makes the show as interesting as it is. While there is predictability in some areas, there is unpredictablity in other areas. When you're dealing with a personality and creative talent, they are constantly not satisfied and are always looking to evolve forward. This is true, through the history of top forty radio, of all creative disc jockeys. All
of the above still does not explain why you don't subscribe. The great stuff that you write about on internet, I have found to be mostly mediocre. You just like it because it is free.

Stop badgering your ex Subscribers Ricky

What a terrible thing to say about a bona fide "K" fan. Look, if Satellite Radio is barely worth $12.95 a Month, who in their right mind would spend $12.95 a month for ONE (1) Internet Oldies show. I'd rather have hundreds of other choices at my fingertips, than listen to some guy talking to this Tonto.
