RIP CD 92.9

In the inverse, what good is any of it to Delmar? It’s clear WWCD has had trouble being financially viable enough to get lending to secure a frequency. Maybe to the point of being more unprofitable than profitable? Several years ago they did a crowd funding plea to assist in pulling that off. Plus there was a time when WWCD was the only player in the format in the market. Now with 105.7 playing in the field, that’s no longer the current landscape.

Malloy is clearly passionate. So are his fans. But does that equate to being profitable over the long haul.

Delmar had a pretty good arrangement. They got their monthly payment and didn't have to program/sell it. Now they see a chance to continue with the format and have a chance for a piece of the Columbus market.

AM 1580 has applied for the call sign WXGT.
Curious. WXGT was 92.3's calls in the late 70s when they did a rock-leaning CHR format as 92X. At the time it was owned by Dayton-based Great Trails. Prior to taking the WXGT calls, it was WCOL-FM. Today it is of course iHeart's WCOL(FM) country powerhouse.

Looks like Delmar has something in the pipeline, ready to go.
"93X The Better Alternative"

Listen Live player (stream with only a "buzzing sound" as of this posting):

Direct streaming address would be:

Edit: just after submitting this post, seems they're testing the stream;
randomly playing music but raising and lowering the volume constantly.

The state of graphic design in this business is depressing.

At any rate, I doubt the CD loyalists will be supporting it, and how much alternative audience is left for whatever this is?

For the umpteenth time...the original owner of 101.1 had nothing to do with any of this. His General Manager did. The original owner sold 101.1 and got out.

Has Vaughn ever chimed in on the WWCD saga after he sold it?

I just read an old Dispatch article, and it appears Vaughan operated 102.5 for a short time before selling the intellectual property to Malloy.

He sold the IP to Malloy when WHIZ Media Group was considering breaking the LMA with Fun With Radio in favor of a lease with Salem Communications.

If they we're able to keep the same deejay's the audience would probably stay. When The Blitz fired Loper and Randi every listener post on Facebook was talking about boycotting the station. Ultimately, the ratings didn't change. As a matter of fact they went up. People didn't boycott. So I say it's worth a shot to keep the alternative format with or without the deejay's lol although I would try to lure them over if possible.

The "WXGT" stream (see links in Post #49) appears to be running full-time as of this post.
I thought I heard a top-of-hour ID - just missed it - will try to catch it the next time around.
(I'm not in the area. Maybe it's running over-the-air on 1580 AM? or still in "test mode"?)

It's not running over 1550 or 1580 as of 11:25 a.m. Sunday, so it appears to be online only at this point.
From everything I've read here, it looks like whatever comes next will continue to be a simulcast between the Delaware and Columbus frequencies.

Given the translators at 92.9 it only makes sense that 1550/1580 air the same programming. Neither translator is strong enough nor positioned well enough to cover on its own.

My guess if the other posts are correct at 12:00 am on 2/1/24 ICS/Delmar when the current lease expires will punch a button on a switcher and WWCD Ltd will go bye bye and the new format will be already in place ready to go.

I had initially wondered whether the signals would be split and 1550/92.9 would return to being Delaware-focused. That probably doesn't need to happen with 96.7/1270 being the signal that serves Delaware and Marysville more now, not that they'll ever return to the situation of 10 or so years ago when WQTT was the Marysville station and WDLR was the Delaware station.

How is 96.7's coverage in Delaware? Regardless of the source it always looks like the signal is pinched away from Delaware and targeted specifically on Marysville...

96.7 is another station that covers waaaaay more than the map shows. I pick it up all over Polaris down to almost 161 before it becomes unlistenable.
