RIP CD 92.9

How is 96.7's coverage in Delaware? Regardless of the source it always looks like the signal is pinched away from Delaware and targeted specifically on Marysville...

That Radio Locator map doesn't accurately reflect their signal at all, as @william#1 noted. Similar to how 1270 hasn't run that night pattern in something close to 15 years now.
I don't get up to Delaware much, but I've always found 96.7 to have a solid signal there. They do tuck their signal in toward WCSM in Celina/St. Marys, but I've heard them decently well all the way out to Springfield, across most of the metro when the other 96.7 (WJVG) is off and even here in Pickerington, I can pick them up inside my condo with a decent antenna.

Sorta/kinda update: Randy Malloy is working on a plan to keep his intellectual property alive while preventing Delmar Media from using it to continue broadcasting:

Unless they actually stream, I just don't know how you can keep intellectual property like that alive.

What's weird is that @Michi 's FCCData.org shows the exact same pattern, which is taken from FCC contour maps.

Just realized I should have said "run that day pattern" in close to 15 years.
With a lot of these translators, it seems like the FM's pattern is almost identical to the AM, at least on paper. 1550/92.9 is that way on maps, but I never get north of Delaware anymore to test for myself. But I do know that 96.7 has been audible throughout the Columbus metro the entire time it's been 1270's translator, at least when WJVG isn't on. Even then, WJVG doesn't get more than a few miles from its tower before it takes interference from Marysville.

Both 92.9 and 96.7 do very well for "translators" It's not 100% my cup of tea but I sort of feel bad for the LPFM near Linden that is also on 96.7 while they are not 24/7 they don't stand a chance against 96.7 Marysville when on the air. W244DV does very well compared to what "paper" shows as their coverage map. On paper they should not be reaching the east side of Columbus but at times they do. I guess that's the magic of FM waves.

I'm about 40 miles southeast of Marysville and the antenna on my Sanyo setup, which dates to about 2004, picks up 96.7 decently well on the second story of my condo in Pickerington. Conditions vary, but it's always audible even when WJVG is on the air. Same for when 92.9 came on in Delaware. That came in pretty well out here, which was a big reason I was annoyed when WVKO plopped on to the channel and made it completely unlistenable.
I usually hear WJVG and WDLR fighting it out by the time I hit 71 and 161. That's about five miles north of WJVG's tower, possibly less. I'll be in that part of town tonight for work and see what I hear.

Another frequency for WWCD? I don't subscribe to Radioinsight so I can't read the added insight. That said, iHeart could lease 105.7 taking that liability off their hands (sort of) or 107.9 with their limited signal. I
don't see anyone else wanting it.

The other problem is the nomadic state WWCD has been in since 2010. Unless he's willing to franchise the brand with iHeart, or just sell it to them (which feels more likely than an LMA) they wouldn't have much of anything available besides the traveler's information station at 1610 AM or a Part 15 setup.

I really would like to be proven wrong but, unless Randy bites the bullet and launches a streaming-only version of WWCD, it will likely breathe its very last tonight. Which makes the IP worth little more than a piece of paper.

I don't see Columbus Radio Group leasing 107.9 to WWCD Ltd. 105.7 maybe? I don't know I don't see iHeart doing it either (given the reason the lease failed is because WWCD Ltd refused to have a late payment clause in the lease to purchase agreement and had been per the reporting in the media "late" at times on making their payments. It would also be weird if they got in "bed" with iHeart given WWCD had at one point a "Clear Channel sucks" sticker on one of their cabinets in the WWCD studios.

A streaming only version from the current owners is being launched per what I heard on their "goodbyes" this afternoon- but their website appears to be overwhelmed at the moment http://wwcdradio.com/

Appears the lease ends of 92.9 at midnight and they say they're going to midnight. RDS has already been updated for the new branding "92X"

Why would iHeart even want to offer 105.7 for lease given WWCD, Ltd.'s repeated issues with them since 2010? 105.7 would assuredly be cost-prohibitive, and they couldn't afford to continue leasing two high-band AM stations with tiny FM translators, let alone 102.5.

At least they're finally doing that. For how long is anyone's guess. If they don't continue to function as a going concern, the IP they are so adamant on protecting would be worthless.

I agree thus why I said it would be weird if they got in bed with iHeart given their past feelings about the owners.

93X (I made a typo in my earlier post) launched at around 12:01am with a legal ID into "Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio" by Ramones

I’ve been listening since the launch and I have no idea how this format can be commercially viable. Even mainstream 90s and 2000s alt stations playing music from the heyday of the format have their work cut out for them to have any chance of making it, much less playing such niche music.

I listened to the stream a few days before the launch for about an hour and recognized no more than two songs. I figured they'd commercialize it some when they actually went on the air, but it sounds like they didn't. I wish em all the best, but I don't see this working out in the long run. They're like the kid in high school that tries too hard to be cool 😂

That's saying a lot given the increasingly fragmented state of alternative/modern rock as a format to begin with.
