RIP CD 92.9

Kind of off topic, but I downloaded TuneIn and they had a section for all the iHeartRadio stations and podcasts. I figured IHeartRadio and TuneIn would be considered rivals and they wouldn't have all their stuff on TuneIn, but I guess not lol
Isn't TuneIn one of, if not THE largest radio station streaming app that's not owned by a broadcaster? It'd be stupid to not try to be on TuneIn.

They are - cause Audacy owns what was "radio dot com" and iHeart well has iHeart radio I am guessing them being on Tune In also does not really hurt them much given they can drive anyone who is listening to their programing the iHeart branding/app and get people interested in their own eco system. Listening to FM iHeart Radio in the car I hear at least 1 or 2 promos for something iHeart App specific like a podcast or music or something in most of their FM radio ad blocks.

“ iHeartMedia’s FCC filing wasn’t the only hint of plans to rebrand the station. ICANN registration data shows someone obtained the website domains “cd1057.com” and “cd1057fm.com” on Jan. 25 and Jan. 31, respectively. While privacy protections mask who bought the domains, they do indicate an individual person bought them.

The pair of websites were registered and have server hosting through partner companies Hover and Tucows. Not only has Malloy’s station also used these same providers to stream at “wwcdradio.com” since departing 92.9 FM, but all three websites share an identical IP address. However, cd1057.com and cd1057fm.com both displayed empty pages with Hover branding as of Monday.”

At this point if he can't find another FM home, I feel like at some point we'll see the Bar be sold - that's prime real estate and I know it's very 'personal' to WWCD Listeners/Randy but a sale of that could at least let him prop up the WWCD Radio internet streaming venture a little longer (them ASCAP, SESAC, BMI, Sound Exchange, etc) fees are not cheap.

Well, looks like the property for the Big Room/WWCD Radio is up for sale now ...

I caught 93x's legal ID. They are identifying WXGT and WQCD as AM & FM without even mentioning the fm translators. WXGT is the call sign of 1580 AM- and the FM translator is W255CS. WQCD is the call sign of 1550 in Delaware; the FM translator there is W255CM. Also I ran across this on radio locator: WWCD-AM 1070 kHz - Solana, FL. Possibly, the WWCD calls were parked here.

FCC regs do not require them to ID the translators call letters every hour.

Since call signs are much less important than the used to be, I wonder why they didn’t leave it parked on 105.7? Apparently they want them in their quiver.

I think the idea of IDing as WQCD AM and FM is smart.. listeners dont know what a translator is or means and thats unnecessary word salad soup cogging up things to mention W255CS.

And translators never have to audibly ID, with frequency shift keying now a part of most modern transmitters

Is there any proof that listeners tune away from a station when they hear translator call letters?

I didn't say they did.. it just means nothing to them.. but WQCD/WWCD does/might/could

CBS Radio, Entercom, Beasley and iHeart have buried call signs in other markets to prevent any future reuse. WHFS, WNEW, WBCN, WAAF, WODS...

And the 93X experiment appears to have ended, as it's now being reported by locals that it's playing a rather broad mix of oldies and classic hits as My 92.9.

Yep, it's gone: 93X Columbus Gives Way To Oldies After Just Five Weeks - RadioInsight

Running an "oldies" format as "My 92.9" - side note before they leased to WWCD Ltd they were known as "My 92.9" with a Classic Hits format. (that format when leasing 92.9 to WWCD moved to their other FM translator 96.7 as "My 96.7") so it's weird they have two stations branded "my" now with totally two different formats. 92.9 is very much oldies while 96.7 is more of a classic hits.

Why do I get the feeling they were not truly serious about "alternative" but wanted to 'troll' WWCD folks?

I've been told that iHeart originally applied for the calls as they were in discussions with Malloy about some form of partnership that would have put some elements of CD on 105.7 (And that was confirmed by Malloy registering multiple CD1057 related domains). Once that deal did not proceed, the calls needed to be moved out of Columbus, but are apparently being parked by iHeart as a favor to hold onto them should Malloy get another signal or they do agree to work together in the future.

The PD was dedicated to the format, but from my vantage point, the station gave him zero support. The website and streaming client were abysmal. Haters came after them on social media, and they didn't respond, didn't put their own messaging out there, etc. So my guess is the owner was hoping for another LMA and was willing to let the PD do his thing in the interim. People casting this as some sort of feud between the two stations need to take it down a notch. This is business. CDWhateverFrequency is broke, so, unfortunately, no more FM broadcast.
