Back in the early 1970's, just as the big 1220, WGAR was being born, I was programming my very first radio station, WSLR (Whistler) down the road in Akron. I was a young turk and so was Chuck Collier. His radio station was a major influence on me then and even now. John Lund, Chuck Collier, the legendary GM Jack Thayer, and of course Don Imus. What a wonderful radio station led by a terrific team of talent. WGAR was awarded Billboard Magazine's station of the year in 1972 or 73, and ironically I was named Air Personality of the year at the same event. Classy guys that they were, and since my station wouldn't fly me there, the crew at WGAR accepted my award and brought it back home for me to pick up. Chuck and I stayed in touch off and on through the years but more on a casual level. What a kind, decent, friendly, gracious guy he was. When I read this, I was hurt. He was a rare talent, given his smooth, resonant voice and consistent delivery. But what I remember most is what a really nice guy he was. My condolences to those who knew him better. He will be missed. Craig Scott
