RIP KRZR 103.7

I can't belive they are blowing up KRZR and leting that loser country station continue(move ZR to 102.7 if you wish). If they do start an old school station on 103.7 they HAVE to call it MAGIC or X. But they won't. The way CC does things is a shame. I hope nothing happens to B95.

Are call letters copyrighted material? What would keep the Blaze or 104.1 from adopting the KRZR calls?

You keep mentioning you have a directional antenna that you are using. It must work pretty well to get 99.7, 98.5 The Fox and 95.5 KLOS at one time. What model antenna do you have? ???

I have a old directional Radio Shack 110 miler in my garage. I have not used it for awhile. Radio has discontinued (like a lot of good things) that model antenna. I have seen some on the internet and they are like twleve feet long and probably can go close to 200 miles.

It's a Radio Shack FM only antenna, probably the same one you mention, I've had it for 15 years, and I looked on RS website and it's discontinued, they have combination TV and FM, but not sure they would work as well, with FM coming right after VHF 2-6, when I was pointed towards KZOZ 93.3 in San Luis Obispo, I used to pick up analog KSBY (NBC) channel 6 on it.

CC could simply park those KRZR calls somewhere else on one of their stations. CBS has the legendary KOME calls parked elsewhere as well as Entercom parking their KWOD calls elsewhere.

OK, it's freaking HYSTERICAL to me to hear KRZR call letters in the same sentence as 'legendary' considering they were only 4 years old when I started there, and I'm only 37. Good gravy, ya'll make me feel old. RZR is a phone, hardly worthy of the same reverent treatment as KOME. I'm. Just. Sayin.

The KRZR calls may not be as legendary as KOME but KOME isn't that much older. KOME-98.5 was there from 1971-98. KRZR was at 103.7 from 1989 and supposedly will end this year, so KOME was used for 27 years while KRZR was used for 21 years.

BTW: Jen,I miss your voice tracked show that was on KMRQ-Rock 96.7

Corporate radio... I just wish it wasn't so homogenized. So predicable. Sounds like any other market. How about a stimulus package for the return of local "Mom & Pop" radio? Sorry I guess we will never hear that again... For the people, by the people, what a concept. - Oh yea, if you like to DX (FM style anyway) the larger the antenna (longer boom) & more elements, the more directional it is. Add about 60ft (height) & about 20dB of gain (amplifier) and a variable bandwidth continuous tune receiver/tuner, and it's never ending fun. It changes with the seasons.

I get what you're saying Madman, in terms of years of use, it's just the timeline that kills me, you know? KOME existed before I was born, so that's easier to swallow as 'legendary'. Just a perspective thing.

Modesto--good times!! LOVED X-Fest. Feel free to stream me 1051theblaze.com I know it isn't quite the same, but at least it's live (sending tracks up there was the glitchiest system ever. I always felt bad you guys would miss half the show!).

Jen, you have the best morning show in Fresno and 105.1 THE BLAZE rocks.

I know in previous post I mentioned picking up KZOZ, KDNO, KLOS, And KIOI, KDJK, and KHKK, on my antenna, because I like to DX signals FM and AM It's a hobby you will see my post in the "DXING and Reception Board, but I have to say 105.1 KKBZ THE BLAZE is better than those stations, more REAL Classic Rock that rocks from 70s , 80s, 90s and some beyond, of course better than 95.7 KJFX, when KRZR is gone I don't want 105.1 THE Blaze to become a Active rock station that just plays mostly current music, I like them the way the are. that would be up to KFRR.

If they don't flip on the 2nd, are we all gonna feel pretty dumb or what?

I dunno...I'll miss that place. Some interesting moments came from that station. I had a secretary who ran around naked for some promotion they did on the day I hired her. I remember thinking, "geez, what the hell did I just do..." Under the influence of KRZR, I suppose.

Flip..will ya.

Ok, back to the internet and 100.3 the Sound. Never would work in Fresno....but, damn, it's good stuff.

I would wait til Monday 10/4, and if it don't happen, ya all the rumors from Radio Insight and posters that heard it from at 83 East Shaw aren't true.
On KRZRs website and Facebook page they seem like it's not going to happen, You would think though if it wasn't true somebody would have posted from KRZR saying it wasn't true.
I guess we'll see, I will feel embarrassed for "reposting this topic" from the original topic "The Beat In Fresno" when KRZR was off the air last Thursday for 3 hours.

If KRZR doesn't flip should another station in Fresno do it? MEGA has big 25-54 numbers, could they use some competition? How would a Gen X version of old school do in Fresno, if it was programmed well?

Hell yeah...something happened in the early 90's that most programmers completely ignored. Hip Hop and R+B became the mainstream. Now that generation is right in the middle of the 25-54 demo. Old school hip hop and R+B appeals to Men and Women, white, black, hispanic and asian. It would be sad if CC launched this station because they would deliberately keep it away from B-95. Put this station right in between B-95 and Mega, give it a rhythmic feel, promote the hell out of it, and it would pull big numbers.

Art Laboe / KOKO? - "All The Hits!" Too "OLD SCHOOL"? Too Small? Oh, it's just Kerman.

Just an observation.

actually just the stick is in Kerman, KOKO 94 office and studio are accross from Fresno State. No real thought goes into the programming though, not since Greg Mack & David Caudillo left...and I think Pattie Moreno might have been the Music Director back in the early 2000's before she was the PD at B-95

Any latest news on the staus of KRZR? Fact Or Fiction?

KRZR cannot be flipping tomorrow. It's simply too much biz as usual and promo appearances all weekend. Somebody read too much into domain names.

Kenrayc, I have noticed that both KKBZ-105.1 & KHIT-107.1 aren't doing that well in the ratings. What if one of those stations changed to Old School. Would a Lotus Old School station sound better than a Clear Channel Old School Station? Just Wondering.

No, hears why KHIT and KKBZ play music that KMGV and KJFX doesn't play. KHIT does better than KABX 97.5 in the ratings.

If Lotus wanted to make KHIT an Old School Format it would be better than CC because of KBOS.
