RKO: Manning out , McPhee in.

Call letters btw are WTKK; there was a WTTK in the market years ago though (yes both a WMKK and a WTKK, very similar, currently in same market)

http://lists.bostonradio.org/pipermail/boston-radio-interest/2009-January/018868.html
>>In Boston, WACQ (1150 AM, the former WCOP-AM) and WTTK (100.7)
switched from top 40 and AOR, respectively, to easy listening on January
1, 1979. WACQ's last song was "We Are the Champions", and the announcer
said, "If you think it's an end...in a way, it's also a beginning."

(Became WHUE)
Eagan and Braude are under contract to WTKK till 2013 I think; sim. w/ Severin

Rush Radio actually isn't bad up here in Beverly, esp. by day.

One (part time) talker I can't picture picking up Howie is WBZ; not only no room for him but they may figure he's a bit too offensive.

Wasn't there also a WKKT? I think so. But I don't think there was ever a WMMK, a WKKM, a WWKM. or a WWKT in Boston.

Yes and it was on 100.7. From bostonradio.org

http://bostonradio.org/stations/13806
>>New Years', 1985, saw the station's rebirth as “The Cat” WKKT, becoming a CHR station. In September of that year, “The Cat” turned into “Classic Hits 100.7” with the classic rock format which prevails today; the next month, the calls were changed to today's WZLX.

Not to be confused with 1510 once having the call letters WKKU
>>In 1989, Noble made 1510 WKKU, live country and Bruins games
http://bostonradio.org/stations/12789
(I think someone at work has a bumper sticker on a locker: "Bruins Country 1510 WKKU", or
they used to)

So 100.7:
WCOP until 76
WTTK 1976 till New Yrs Day of 1979
WHUE-FM beautiful music 1/1/79
WCOZ briefly (1984)
WKKT 1/1/85
WZLX from Sept of 85 till today
acc to The Boston Radio Dial/ bostonradio.org

So WTTK and WKKT calls did reside at various times on 100.7; the slightly diff. WKKU was on 1510

WTKK 96.9, of course was WJIB for many years and changed to smooth jazz, country, etc.
with various call letter changes

http://bostonradio.org/stations/25050
>>Greater out-bid WRKO for rights to “Imus in the Morning”, which moved to “FM Talk 96.9” on August 23 (1999). Additional talk programs were scheduled to debut two weeks later, with smooth jazz filling the remaining dayparts until the talk schedule is finalized. That September, the callsign was changed to WTKK, reflecting the new format and positioning.

I forgot about WKKU. But who was the Noble to whom (to which?) you referred? I don't think it was Nelson Noble, who (in the '60s, I think) owned WILD (either as an individual or together with family members) and who later, I believe, took his own life. You didn't ask, but the outfit that owned WWZN when it was religious WNRB was Communicom.

I knew Charlie Manning from a couple of political campaigns we both worked on. He is a nice guy but his show was terrible. I could deal with how he drags his words but when he would put on a juvenile fake voice when talking about a Democrat was unbearable. If all you wanted to hear was two hours of all Republicans are great ( a word he used every 10 seconds) and Democrats are evil this was the show for you.

Years ago, he did a weekend show with Michael Goldman and he was much better with a partner. If RKO paired him with a liberal, I believe the show would have done better.

I will never tune into Michele McPhee. Beyond the fact that she really doesn't have a grasp of many topics. She is loose with the facts and I got my fill of cop talk after the first month of her TKK show. The faked outrage, her tough city kid and its my show so don't disagree with me act is lame.

Isn't this what Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and a ton of other sucessful hosts do?

If you don't agree with a hosts politics, then you can claim they have a loose grasp on the facts. Otherwise, it's just a differing observation.

I take it if you don't like Mannings politics, you are not too keen on McPhee either.

Are there any conservative Republicans on the air you DO like?

Dan: I don't know who Noble was other than the name of the company that owned 1510 for awhile. The profile at bostonradio.org says :

>> (1510) resurfaced in the late '80s under the ownership of Noble, which had also purchased WSSH-FM Lowell; 1510 became WSSH(AM), still big bands. In 1989, Noble made 1510 WKKU, live country and Bruins games; that was the last time 1510 pulled ratings of any sort.

Read more at:
http://bostonradio.org/stations/12789
It does mention Communicom who bought 1510 from Noble in Oct of 94. I can't really reproduce
the entire 2 paragraph bit here

Michelle and I are pretty much aligned when it comes to politics but I agree with "vmorrison". She is very loose with the facts and doesn't have a grasp on many topics. I used to listen to her TKK show regularly and she was wrong or misinformed so many times I lost count. And when she was called out on something she would argue to the point of making herself sound really stupid and she would never admit she was wrong about something. It's just how it is, and again, she and I are on the "same side of the aisle" for the most part.

Considering your past posts about Egan and Bruade, WWZN and your numerous "Jimmy Myers is great, give him a full time day slot" posts...it's hard to believe you align with Michelle.

You've bashed Michelle numerous times on this board...and I don't doubt she pisses people off when she speaks her mind. But that doesn't prove she is fast and loose with the facts. She is one of the hardest working people in Boston media. Radio, TV, books, newspaper, speaking engagements. Not quite the role of someone who doesn't have a grasp.

I wonder if she will read the statement in her own paper today regarding pension reform, that claims the average state pensioner gets 26 grand a year and they are not eligible for social security since they don't pay into it.

She was screaming the other day about someones 50 grand pension.

The rank and file workers are not getting 50K.

Her friends in Law Enforcement, the Group 4 guys, are though.
Does anyone else besides me think she is a "badge bunny"?

She, like Howie, HATES state employees. Except when she says some veteran should get the job. If we gave all the state jobs to Vets, would she still be calling them "hacks"?

Remember what I said about the sound processing? I take it back, at the end of the show today she was screaming, and the shrill Michele came through loud and clear.

She has not mastered getting to the top of the hour. Cripes you only have to do it twice a show, it isn't that hard.

There are several conservative hosts I like including John Batchelor, Avi Nelson, Jerry Doyle, Larry Kulow and the new overnight host on RKO. If I had the time I would post all the factual errors Ms. McPhee has broadcast over the years. As for hard working, to me she is a media jack of all trades and master of nothing. I thought it was an amazing conflict of interest that after regularly calling the Sec of Transportation Jim Alweezel and making fun of the MBTA Chairman on a regular basis, the Herald allowed her to cover the MBTA Green Line accident last year. You can't be a talk host one minute and an unbiased reporter the next.

As for her columns, I find them long on outrage and short on any real substance. I read two of her books and they were filled with misinformation. Read the reviews of her book on Amazon.

She is all about cutting waste in government unless it involves police details, overtime or union perks.

If I worked with Charlie Manning in 2 political campaigns where do you think I fall in the political spectrum?

As for Beck, he just lost his affiliate in New York City and Philly. How well does he do in other major markets? Limbaugh has a lot of affiliates but check out his ratings in top markets.

Do you know how stupid you just made yourself "sound".  If you find one post that I made saying that Jimmy Myers is great and should have a full time slot or my alleged Egan and Braude and WWZN posts, I have a nice check for $100K that I will personally deliver to you.  And I don't ever recall EVER bashing Michelle on this board let alone "numerous times".  Either you are really thick or have me confused with someone else.

I say move Egan and Braude into the morning drive slot, move Jimmy Myers into the weekday schedule and do a little adjusting of the rest of the schedule.

Please make the check payable to Donald Juannn.

Your apology accepted.

That really is funny. Not sure who that was posting but it certainly wasn't me. Unless I was heavily medicated, I would never make that suggestion (also, you say numerous posts...don't think so). Stalk some more of my posts. There are no posts about WWZN (except for posts bashing/trying to prove they have no ratings), and I am not sure what you are talking about for posts related to Egan and Braude or bashing Michelle multiple times. But I am sure you will find them for me. Again, though, no idea how that post happened under my name. It truly gave me a good laugh.

You didn't prove your point. You found one post that I am claiming wasn't me (because I would never say anything that crazy). You said there was a pattern, multiple instances. I see no proof of that. No "bashing Michelle multiple times", no "numerous Jimmy Myers is great", and I am still confused about what Egan and Braude posts you are talking about.

But back to the original topic, I still content Michelle is loose with the facts. She, more than most, bends and twists the facts into a false outrage. She is unable to accept when a caller corrects her with the facts and continues to repeat her false "facts".

Wasn't me. And at the end of the day does it really matter? Finding a post from 4 years ago? C'mon now.

PS: Check is in the mail.
