RKO Monday announcement

WRKO was running a promo today with Kuhner saying "tune in Mon at 12:05pm..you said you wanted more conservative voices..."

Dr Grace (his wife)? Callahan? Someone thought they heard it's Bill O'Reilly...could be minor but who knows.
It was said today someone was in at noon for VB.

Ah so that indeed is it--and if so, big deal.BOR has been doing that 15 min show for a bit and if this is the big announcement, Heart is just latching on to the brief show some 4 months after its launch. RKO does do bottom of hr news updates via WBZ, people like Ben Parker.Same updates air at least at TOH on 1200 too.

the kicker is that Key Networks, the folks behind this , is some little start up that is not an I Heart company.

I guess Bill and friends think his "me too" moment has blown over, and it is safe for him to stick his head back out.... That 11PM slot on Newsmax TV must not be enough for him. How many millions did Fox pay out to female staffers because of him?

How much is WRKO getting paid to air this? Cripes even hookers have limits as to what they will do for money, apparently WRKO does not.

You are sabotaging at least the first hour of a locally produced show to run this?

This is not a case of Premier Networks trying to clear their own product in a top 10 market for the sake of national advertising dollars, this is running someone elses product to the detriment of your own, while you are paying Doug Goudie, Dan Watkins, and Marita MacKinnon LaRosa to sit there for 15 minutes doing nothing.

@bostonradio tweet had him wondering if RKO would cut it into little segments and run it at various times. A 15 minute show--what, like Camel News Caravan or something?

Kind of a slap in the face to VB though, isn't it?

Why not at 11:45 rather than 12:05?

Writing on the wall, perhaps?

My takeaway from this is VB's rating suck, and RKO hopes by a stronger conservative "lead in" at noon, people will tune in to OReilly and then not change the station to something else after it runs.

Who does WRKO have with better name recognition than Bill O'Reilly? Fifteen minutes isn't 3 hours. Bill O'Reilly isn't Sebastian Gorka. It isn't "sabotage" if it's good. Hopefully the local hosts will use their 15 minutes productively and do some show prep. Not just sit there and do nothing.

I wonder if VB is done.....overnite RKO usually does promos for kuhner and VB....I noticed overnite Saturday there were promos for kuhner and VB and overnite last nite...at least while I was listening, there wasn't a peep about VB...and the 'big announcement' kuhner keeps plugging says 'you wanted more conservative voices...we've got a cannon fire for you'...or words to that effect....which leads me to believe there will be a new host at noon....RKO is running promos about the 'O'Reilly Update' starting September 3rd at noontime....some think he may be the new noon - three host.....and another thing.....I think if VB was still on board he would be doing the "big announcement at 12:05" seeing as it cuts right into his show, but, instead kuhner is doing the promo......things that make you go hmmmmm.

O'Reilly is doing a 15 minute daily show. Does that mean iHeart/RKO is hiring BOR for a three hour gig? That's a good point though about Kuhner doing the promos and not VB. Of course VB is seen by many as, well, middle of the road--said he voted Obama in 08--and Kuhner seen as more conservative... For now RKO schedule still lists VB at noon.

Actually Bill's show is more like 12 minutes and 46 seconds.

12:46 of radio per day. Must tire him out :)

so there was a big mutual admiration society meeting at noontime today, according to what I got out of it this starts on 9/3 and VB says it starts at noon and goes for 15 minutes.

O'Reilly says it is 3 segments, news, commentary and something "lighter" in the last segment.

He says it is great because callers will call into VB's show and want to talk about things he brought up in his 15 minutes ( less network reserved spots).

1) does this wipe out the TOH noon news on WRKO?

2) Will VB need to do show prep since Bill will fill up the phone lines for him?

3) Bill is coming to Boston to "do an event" with WRKO that just happens to be shortly after his next book is released. Coincidence?

WRKO could be his biggest affiliate so far. This is a big deal for him. Not surprised he's doing a lot to promote it.

The station is smart to integrate it with the local show, rather than just throw it on as useless syndication.

The problem with this logic is, quite simply, this is VB we're talking about. The man who is more doughy on issues than a piece of wet kleenex, who is afraid to take any stance on an issue which is somehow controversial. The man who won't call jimmies jimmies because someone, somewhere, told him jimmies was a racist term even though there's not a single shred of evidence to support the claim (not to mention, 'jimmies' are almost a universally new england term, when I was a kid growing up in ohio we called them ants, and how a 'racist term referring to jim crow' would get started in new england, when jim crow laws were a southern construct, is beyond me... but, I digress.)

If OReilly is even remotely "controversial" in his segment, I can't see VB doing much of anything but attempting to maintain some degree of "impartiality" or distance himself from OReilly's comments while still attempting to foster discussion.

Nope... don't see the listeners flocking to RKO for that.

For all of Krazy K00nah's faults, at least the man has a set and takes a stand and defends it, right or wrong, and gets people on both sides of the issue to call in and discuss it.

You mean be a real host rather than make himself the center of the discussion? In other words, what most talk show hosts used to do? In fact what O'Reilly claims that he does? "The spin stops here."

Today's riveting, highly controversal 2 pm topic: "should we do away with the penny?"

Those last two topics sound like what's regularly discussed on BBC local/regional radio in the UK -- nothing really controversial, just stuff like who makes the best steak and kidney pies in Yorkshire and how can the 5-pound note be spruced up. A throwback to the trivial talk of the WEEI and WNAC days here. It's hard to believe the talk-radio pendulum could swing back that way again after so many years, but obviously the hard-right talk isn't getting great numbers, and what numbers its getting consist of people advertisers have no interest in marketing to anymore.
