RM donates $35k to fallen officer's family

Love him or hate him, you have to respect what he did! Thank you Russ Martin for continuing to support the family of fallen police and firefighters!

Every week in this country, hundreds of thousands of people donate money to people in need, non-profits, etc. and do so without publicizing their act of kindness. That's impressive.

i see absolutely nothing wrong with the Russ Martin Foundation. they need a little bit of publicity to keep the cash coming in since Russ will be without an income soon :) The foundation get's very little press here in DFW.

Police and Firemen go out every day knowing that they may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice, and they do it for low wages. An officers wife and children still need to eat and the rent needs to be paid after tragedies like this occur; the Foundation is performing a valuable service in giving them money immediately when they are consumed with more important problems.

This is a charity I contribute to. You should consider it.

Keep in mind that YOU donated the money, Russ merely passes it along. This is not from his paycheck, it's from listeners who attended his events, made donations to buy a CD, etc. YOU deserve the thanks, not Russ.

Thank YOU, Accuracy, for being so accurate.

Man, some of you guys hate Russ so much , you can't even acknowledge when he does something good. Sure, people do contribute to his Police and Fire Fighters fund, but YOU don't know if and how much he puts in to it.

It's a legal "charity," right? Aren't those financial records considered public?

If anything, it's great for a tax break...unless your girlfriend forgets to mail your return to the IRS or something. ::)

No one is questioning assisting fallen officer families. My pet peeve is people who name charities after themselves ... whether some Hollywood celeb or famous rich person or former local DJ. It's not about the charity work since there are existing groups already doing this; it is about them because they want the publicity (or else their charity wouldn't have their name on it). There are dozens of funds across this country dedicated to fallen officers, fallen military, etc. that do a fine job. I'm sure an on-air personality who was passionate about this noble cause could get listeners to give to one of them without setting up another charity (and associated administrative costs).

This week, KTCK was asking listeners to give to the Red Cross for the Haiti earthquake. They didn't create a Ticket Listener foundation for that. Various DJs on other stations could be heard asking people to do the same. None of them set up foundations named after themselves in the process.

Like KIdds Kids Kraddick is a super ****** even topping John Gosselin. RM is a loser and a pompous ass and I am glad he is gone from the radio cause that is the worst form of torture for him. He has become irrelevant. He does good with the foundation and that is a good thing. I agree it is lame to name it after yourself though. It is also good that it is still around to help the fallen officers families.

Look at it this way, if by having a recognizable name attached to a foundation gets one or two more donations than it would normally get, so much the better. If you attach your name to a charity/foundation then people that know and like you may be more compelled to give. And as an ex-firefighter I really appreciate the work The Russ Martin Listener’s Foundation does.

It “may” be about self-promotion a little, but so what. Russ just gave a check for $35k to a family that needs it in their darkest moment. No strings attached. If that helps their pain even in the slightest, who are any of us to question the motive behind it? With so few acts of kindness being demonstrated in this world, in or out of the spotlight, Russ continues to do this fine work and for that he has my deepest admiration.

At least 800,000 people have texted a $10 donation to the Red Cross in a couple of days this week. They've collected another $40M in other donations. There are more than a "few acts of kindness being demonstrated in this world."

You are absolutely right. And on that point, I happily stand corrected.

Tiger sends a cargo plane, Russ donates to a fallen officer. Both publicity stunts, both hidden agenda. Russ is too big of a prick at heart to do something for no reason. It's official, Russ is coming back sooner or later.

You have to be a very angry person to take issue with charity.
