RM donates $35k to fallen officer's family

Let me qualify...I moved back to Texas near the end of RM's run and have no opinion on him or his show.

That said, from what I've read here, his foundation was created for just such a tragedy. You can claim he did this for publicity, but I just call it follow-through.

Wow, the bitter, cynicism in this thread is ugly.

OK, most of y'all hate Russ Martin. We get it.

But that isn't the headline.

The headline is that the family of a fallen police officer got a needed helping hand.

I know a number of grade-A jerks. And over the years I have observed something. Most jerks hate themselves deep down and would like to change.

So when a jerk actually does something right- even if you question their motives- either join and help or shut the hell up.

But don't kick the man while he is down.

Again, he is off the air. You RMS haters won.

But good grief if y'all ain't the sorriest bunch of winners I have ever seen.

As bad as Russ may be (and given how many people hate him passionately, he may be pretty bad,) many regular posters on this board are every bit as cruel and petty and immature as you claim he is.

So way to go, haters, for turning a nice gesture in the face of tragedy into an excuse for spewing venom toward an enemy you have already beaten. Awesome job.

I give it 18 months before Russ becomes a Reserve Policemen and then sets up a stunt where Trey shoots him and he ends up collecting the rest of the RM Fallen Officer fund himself.

i see absolutely nothing wrong with the Russ Martin Foundation. they need a little bit of publicity to keep the cash coming in since Russ will be without an income soon :) The foundation get's very little press here in DFW.

Police and Firemen go out every day knowing that they may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice, and they do it for low wages. An officers wife and children still need to eat and the rent needs to be paid after tragedies like this occur; the Foundation is performing a valuable service in giving them money immediately when they are consumed with more important problems.

This is a charity I contribute to. You should consider it.

No one is questioning assisting fallen officer families. My pet peeve is people who name charities after themselves ... whether some Hollywood celeb or famous rich person or former local DJ. It's not about the charity work since there are existing groups already doing this; it is about them because they want the publicity (or else their charity wouldn't have their name on it). There are dozens of funds across this country dedicated to fallen officers, fallen military, etc. that do a fine job. I'm sure an on-air personality who was passionate about this noble cause could get listeners to give to one of them without setting up another charity (and associated administrative costs).

This week, KTCK was asking listeners to give to the Red Cross for the Haiti earthquake. They didn't create a Ticket Listener foundation for that. Various DJs on other stations could be heard asking people to do the same. None of them set up foundations named after themselves in the process.

So with dozens of funds across the country.... When have you heard of one doing anything for a DFW area firefighter or officer? RMS created this in the name of the listeners after a volunteer firefighter lost his life and was going to get a big 0 for it. The reason he was getting zero for it was because he chose to help other family's outside of his normal job ( which guess what... was a firefighter for a different city)..... so Russ wanted to set something up for his listeners to do..... not so his name could be flaunted out there. To the people that say Russ does not give... he does give his time, pays all the admin costs, incurred the set up and start up, pays for the book keeping and all other associated legal stuff to keep the charity in good legal standing... oh wait does he also set up the events for people to come out and donate? But his time is just free and does not account for anything. One thing I have noticed is that if there is a topic with the name or letters RMS in it people can not wait to bash the guy. If you do not like him don't listen, read, or watch. Either you secretly like him and envy him or you are just so sad in your own life you try to boost your ego's by putting others down.

What point? That I am a winner? I strongly disagree with Old Jack's assertion that I am a winner. I am most certainly a loser.

Jonas3825 are you Russ?
