RM strikes plea deal

The Catholic church and the Republican party both preach tirelessly about moral virtue, but no matter how many of them get caught with their pants down (literally), they still manage to survive and raise truckloads of money. I don't think there's going to be much outrage about Russ Martin, disappointing to you though that undoubtedly is.

Oh come on, That's pretty weak.

What station would hire him??? Clear Channel is out because they're super cheap and Vince Richards' ego couldn't stand to have someone like RM in the building. Cumulus won't touch him because they're super cheap and he doesn't fit anything they have...CBs..err..ummm....WHere would he go and what format would he do???? In the land of PPM, Radio is as bad as the record industry in pulling the plug and lookin for the "next big thing"...RM is a well known talent in Dallas...but I highly doubt any other market would invest the time and $$$$ needed.

Now that I've heard Russ speak about the incident.....I believe him. Southlake coaxed her into filing charges. If you haven't seen his interview on Ch. 8, check it out!

Did Southlake coax her into making the recording of the phone call where he threatened her? Did they coax her into putting bruises on herself and pulling out her own hair?

What a man he is!! Beat up a woman and then blame someone else. But he gives money to animal shelters and police, so he's a great guy!! {/sarcasm}

Nothing in that interview makes the least bit of sense. The fact she totally ignored the audio tape of the fight reveals this as a feable attempt at PR spin. Why would she be running tape on their fights unless she was trying to document a pattern of behavior? If the charges were unfounded, and the police work was questionable, I'd be chomping at the bit for a trial so I could show everyone just how unfounded the charges were.

Janet St. James has no journalistic integrity when it comes to Russ Martin. She's a friend of his - or at least that is how it seems. That mock 60 Minutes type interview she did chasing after him then going for a ride in the General Lee was a joke.

Why didn't she ask about the tape? She only saw some "grainy" pictures of bruising? The story ends with her pimping his return to radio "future fodder" or whatever. Anything for ratings eh, Belo?

DUING DING DING DING DING DING DING......

Men that abuse women are very good at being charming, promoting themselves as a victim and covering their bases. Janet is a good friend of Russ and if she had any journalist intregrity she would have also interviewed someone from a women's shelter that would explain this. This interview means nothing. I am interested in reading the Richie Whitt story..I think Russ is trying to combat that interview.

Forgot about the Dallas Observer interview. Wasn't that supposed to be out this week?
I thought all of the old cronies and kiss-asses were supposed to spill their guts.
I want to read what JD has to say.
Dfwyall might be right. This could all be advanced spin control by Russ before the old crew tells people what kind of man he really is.

The Observer piece is set to be on the July 30th edition I believe. It was pushed back due to the sudden "no contest" plea given by Russ. So therefore Ritchie had to add more to the story. Cannot wait to see it.

Also, here's food for thought. There's a football player, I believe it's Donte' Stallworth, who pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter or some such. He was driving drunk, hit a guy and killed him. Anyways, he got minimum jail time and I am willing to guarantee he will be on the field when the season starts, playing for somebody. Russ will be back on the air, paid by somebody.

I replied to your same remark, in the other thread.

I think you'd be better off asking this to the "dips" who say RM will be back on DFW radio airwaves. There are already more than enough "legit" resons why he won't, and very little reasoning for why he will. Best thing all the pro RM posters have come up with is, "RM has an audience".

The fact that he has an audience is enough of a reason when it comes to corporate america. That's the bottom line. Audience, money, etc.

He "had" an already dwindling audience at the time he was charged. Try reading some of the other posts that confirm this.

Sorry, give me more evidence than what somebody said. The only numbers that I've seen are for the entire station, not a breakdown for that shift.

IIRC he was below 5th in his demo. David? Little1? Anyone? I am pretty sure I have seen the RM breakdowns on this site.

Yep, the report before they took him off (so November IIRC) he was down to 6th in M25-54. And while 6th in your key demo isn't just horrible, when you're #1 getting Russ's salary and #2 carrying Russ's staff, and #3 have advertisers getting skittish, it's why they took him off.

I've said this before, I'll say it again. There's a sales person who I now work with who was at KLLI for all this. And he/she/it told me in no uncertain terms that it was the advertisers getting gun shy that drove him out. Combine that nugget of info with BDH's comment about him not doing roadshows, not wanting to do live spots, etc, and you can see where Russ isn't what people call 'sales friendly'.

You can justify a lot when you're #1 in your demo. Drop to 6th, and having half a dozen people on your crew seems excessive. Somebody remind me- Russ, JD, Trey, Dan o Malley, aren'tthere at least another couple of people I'm missing? Somebody doing traffic, again, I have no idea because traffic just isn't that big a deal to me-

Gayle Lightfoot did traffic for him for years. When she left he had O'Malley do it. Russ read live reads. O'Malley was part time for most of the show's life. The cast was, Russ, JD, Clo, O'Malley, and Gavin. This is who was there when they show was dropped. It always had about 5 people on the show.
