RNO? Anyone home? Hullo???

Is there a rhyme or a reason as to what they are doing? Who is programming (or not?) this station?

In critiquing this station I just see and hear a lot of misdirection, confusion, and no clear strategy. Am I wrong?

With CC now alerting the presses that there will be budget cuts and a hiring freeze, how can this station be expected to make it?

With their powerful stick and the rest of the talk radio in New Orleans being merely mediocre at best, this station should be able to cobble together a lineup that puts some distance between them and the rest of the field.

Talk radio is wide open in Nola, and just look at how well WGSO has done to carve themselves a nice place at the table.

RNO, are you still open for bizness?

Uh, what??????

Are you KIDDING? WGSO is so much a non-factor they're not even mentioned. How many people/time changes have they gone through in the last 6 months?

Rick & Bubba, c'mon.

Ed Clancy, I thought (wished) he was dead.

Bernie Cyrus, isn't a has been, he's a never was.

Jeff Crouere has the energy and personality of a rock.

Only the Movie and Wine guys on the weekends are worth listening to.

How pros like Kenny Trahan and Ed Daniels got involved with these bunch of slugs is beyond me.

Easy!

Whoa! They must be doing something right if they have worked out a marketing partnership with the TP, no?

Also I didn't say I was a fan of the air talent they have, personally, I find their personalities not to have any.

My whole point though was that while at least they have a solid block of programming that is consistent (at least now) RNO continues to flounder with no apparent direction.

Wow, you guys are tough to please!

And speaking of WGSO don't ya all think that they should ditch this voice of the North Shore stuff and concentrate on being a New Orleans and a metro New Orleans radio station?

As one watches both 'RNO and 'GSO flounder around in a sea of abject stupidity, the only words that come to me is "train wreck." Then I realize what a disservice using that phrase is to train wrecks around the world and I am simply left... speechless.
Then I realize, consolodation is not radio's downfall... stupidity is. One is locally owned, one is owned by "Big Brother," yet both 'RNO and 'GSO have one thing in common.
Stupidity.
Sad, sad, sad.

Don't forget to throw in WIST when it comes to stupidity. They are not immune.

Mancow doesn't fit.

Eric Asher can't talk.

Kaare Johnson is a waste of breath. "I'm just going to go in and wing it for two hours because I used to work at WWL and I winged it over there and got away with it. Did I mention that Phil Johnson is my father? And, did you know, I stayed here through the hurricane when no one else would and I was the highest paid air talent on WWL but I decided to move to WIST and take a pay cut instead? Did I mention that I used to work at WWL?..."

And let's run the awful Errol Laborde show 3 times because hearing the stuttering fool once is not enough.

If it wasn't for Savage and Boortz the station wouldn't even show up in the Arbitron.

Now regarding WGSO, I don't care if they ditch the North Shore stuff or not. With the personalities they have who cares? They're already running South Shore and UNO sports. They are a screwed up station with no purpose and they've drifted away from their original plan. They need to focus and decide what they want to be when they grow up.

Buff, your hatred for Mr Johnson comes thru everytime Im on this board. Don't listen if you hate him so much. I listened to his interview yesterday with a friend of the NOPD officer that was killed and it was easily the best most powerful thing I've heard on NOLA radio in a couple of years. Why such dislike for Asher & Johnson? Plus who cares about the Laborde guy? That show is on weekends. Who cares?

WGSO might gain from a partnership with the TP. I've never seen anything about it though. Do they have one? haven't seen anything in the paper about it and I can't really pick up 990 where I live.

How long till RNO gives it up and goes back to music? Anyone? 6 months?

Larry, for your benefit, I'll temper my further comments about Kaare Johnson and his lack of talent.

I am frustrated that New Orleans has 6 stations broadcasting News/Talk or Talk and they are all bad.

And, yes, I think the weekends count. They're our airwaves. These stations just rent them.

As I said though, I'll stop my Kaare rants.

I do agree, we could have better. But I like 690 most of the time so Im biased too. I dont count the weekends, but Im old school and just never have considered weekends worth anything.

Rant all you want man, I just think that taking personal shots at anyone willing to do a talk show is pushing it. That being said I find Bobby Del a 3 hour infomercial lol

This town has been absent a dynamic talk radio personality for years. I agree with the thought that there is nobody that demands your attention and forces you to want to listen to them. Each talker is in a lot of ways very similar to all of the other talkers. WGSO probably has the most potential to do something given their very good signal, but the lack of good hosts prevents them from getting a good share. I happen to think the only good host they might have is Crouere, but then again some of his shows leave me very dry. I also think that WGSO's imaging is terrible.

Say What? I can't pick the signal up in New Orleans proper, much less on the Nshore. Isn't it a 1000 watt basically daytimer? 830, 800, 870, 690, 1350, 1230 and 1280 all seem to have better signals than 990

Honestly, when I was in New Orleans a few years ago, I never had a problem getting WGSO day or night, anywhere from New Orleans east to Lakeshore. I never tried hearing it when driving to/from the quarter, I used to listen to the end instead.

The claim that WGSO cannot be heard is total bunk. They are more than city wide and across the lake too. The stick sits on top of a building in the middle of New Orleans. The talent is lacking but the signal is not.

The 990 signal is a pea shooter at best with a really crappy ground.
Just because you hope it's not the case, it is... that or you have the one am radio that can pick it up.
Can't get it in Madisonville at night... that's why they "pretend" to have a "network" of Nshore stations.
Sad.
I feel bad for the folks that actually thought that station had any chance at all. At least as "Biz Radio" they had a "brand."

This really bears watching because I think it'll determine what the future of the station holds. They need to begin their broadcasting day with a schit stirrer with someone who can capture attention each program, no more of the same old same old stuff. Funny but I have referred myself to the allacces.com site and I see they are running that same ad about once every 5 days. You mean they're having trouble finding talent that wants to come here??

WWL is only keeping the talk show intellectual icon Bob Mitchell because they are under the mistaken impression that he would have talk show "draw" value on another station, so they feel they need to find a slot for him somewhere to hold on to him and keep him from going to competitor talk stations, which is total stupidity. The day WRNO gives up the talk show ghost Mitchell will be in the entercom garbage can. The man has an intellect of a roadkill armadillo and his talk show is a total embarrassment. But then again he's just one part of the WWL Confederacy of Dunces.

If RNO showed interest in Mitchell for the morning vacancy it would do both stations a favor. WRNO's rating would go down even worse (if that's possible), and WWL would save a wasted, bloated salary in a throwaway time slot. Then, when RNO quickly sunk for once and for all and went back to music (like B-97 did after they dumped their idiot talk show consultant in the mid-90's and tried their best to patch the damage done to the top music station in town), things would go back to the way they should be and Mitchell would finally be gone to the elephants' graveyard.

is bob mitchell seriously that bad?????? wow!

think so??? going back to music wasnt the same after the talk flip on b97. doesnt seem like they can pull the ratings they did ''pre talk''. sorry to say it but that fella was a freakin idiot.............. hey i have a genius idea!!! lets take a number 1 rated station in the city and flip it talk! from top 40 to fm talk. thats gonna be hotter than ever and ratings will go thru the roof! dumbsh**
for some reason i just cant see wrno sinking any lower than they are now.......... hannity 24 hours a day will make it a winner right??? lol wrno has to bail on the talk format before the years end otherwise cc new orleans will loose a bunch of money. we wouldnt want that to happen now would we?? ::)

the question is would they be able to go back to classic rock or classic rock/new rock hybrid?? would bayou beat them out like mix 104.1 did to b97 after b97s return with music?? or will it be.........
99.5 to classic country?
99.5 to chr?
99.5 to REAL oldies not the same 20 every day all day?
99.5 to polka?

Ya'll drug up the All Access posting for the morning show, but not program director? Maybe one of you could apply and show that you could actually program a station and not armchair quarterback one. ;)
