Rob Milford Pleads No Contest To Gun Possession Charge

The former KDKA reporter has made a plea agreement in an attempt to begin the process of clearing his name. He claims that he was unaware that his wife's pistol was located in his briefcase when he carried it into a courtroom - ironically, the same courtroom in which he pled no contest to the misdemeanor charge.

Sad story. Very dumb mistake that appears to have really hurt his career if not ended it.

I am surprised it does not happen more often. A whole lot of people carry in Western PA.

He called me when he was in town earlier this week. Reminded me that his wife put the pistol in the briefcase when he moved her back from D.C.
So, dumb may not be the right word. Bonehead, or not remembering what your wife told you 2 days ago would apply. Ya gotta wonder what happens now, since KD' canned him, and other Ch. 2 employees got nailed for DUI, and kept their jobs. Wonder if he will sue em? Wouldn't surprise me. And yeah, he was a sparkplug down there. I was surprised how many people thought he sucked when he first came to town. Some nasty S**t back then. he didn't deserve it.

Yeah, that is one of the negative things about Pittsburgh in my opinnion.
If you come to town and they locals decide that they don't like you for any reason
you get the Milo Hamilton/Cliff Stoudt/Kordell Stewart treatment.

FreddyE 1977:
In the end I would like to think that acceptance is based on talent. I agree that Pittsburgh is very provincial (both good and bad). But for the Hamilton/Stoudt/Stewart you gave. (None were very talented in my opinion). I will mention Stan Savran/Ron Francis/Jerome Bettis. These three came from other cities and because of their talent became local legends in what they do/did.

Not being a native Pittsburgher didn't seem to hurt Bob Prince, Mike Lange, Jack Bogut, John Cigna, Stan Savran, O'Brien & Garry, Jim Quinn, Clark Race, Fred Honsberger, Mario Lemieux, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Joe Greene...

Ben Roethlisberger hails from Lima, Ohio. Would be qualify for the aforementioned "treatment" what with the charges he is facing? ???

Currently, no criminal charges have been filed against Ben, either in Nevada or Georgia.

Not being sufficiently talented and not deserving the job is one thing. If that is the case, by all means,
end their employment and move on. What I am referring to is that all of the people I listed were the
recipients of gratuitous abuse (including rumors too vicious and salacious to detail here) which frankly
no human being should have to endure. For all of the good things you can say about Pittsburghers
embracing you for life if they really like you, I have been stunned and embarrased at how some people
have been treated when they fell short of the mark. (and in the case of Milo Hamilton you can't really
say he fell short of anyone's mark....he's in the Hall of Fame afterall)

Gun ownership ain't exactly a career ender...unless the guy's got a violent crimes rap sheet as long as his arm or something. ::)

Rumors regarding native Pittsburgher Dan Marino contributed to the Steelers not drafting him.

At the time Bradshaw was in his prime and his backups were top notch.

Who is to say what would have happened had we drafted him. But like others have said, a ton of teams passed on him.

To get back to the original point, if your wife is in the habit of putting her loaded pistol in your briefcase, might be a good idea to take a peek before you enter the court house.

My point regarding Dan Marino was to further prove that sometimes native Pittsburghers find success in other cities and sometimes those from other cities find success here. Also, Terry Bradshaw was drafted by the Steelers in 1970. By 1982 and 1983 injuries and age had started catching up to him. I wouldn't say he was in his prime during this time period. Hindsight is 20/20 but sometimes I wonder what the Steelers would have been like had they chosen Marino.

Those rumors about Marino at the time were well founded. As any other Pitt alum could verify at the time, myself included. It was probably one of the worst kept secrets in the history of Pitt football. Fortunate for him, he eventually, not right away, grew out of it.

I was also at Pitt then and yes, the rumor was everywhere. But unless you saw it with your own eyes it was a rumor, and nothing else.

By 1983 injuries had all but ended his career, he managed just 8 pass attempts that season before retiring for good. And the backups weren't that good, you are looking at Cliff Stoudt and Mark Malone.
