Robin & Maynard News?

The deadline has come..... the dynamic duo are no longer getting paid for doing jack crap. They weren't on the radio this morning, could they be working on a contract or was Robin REALLY IKnowitall, and is setting up shop in Montana?

Here is what Big Ed Grunter had to say a few weeks ago (March 29) via an online newsletter:

Where to begin? First, an upcoming date to mark on your calendar: April 17th. It's not only the deadline for settling up with your pals at the I.R.S., it's also the first day Madame Fabulina and Johnny Maynard are no longer under contract. Will the R&M Show blossom again this spring? Will you bear witness to the resurrection of the only radio show in Seattle featuring the sharp tongue of Robin Pot Pie and the celebrated news & commentary of John Maynard, doh!? Ms. Erickson and Mr. Maynard will have more to say to you themselves in a few weeks.

I was hoping to get an email from Big Ed, but haven't thus far. :( I really hope R&M come back to Seattle radio soon.

Check your inbox -- Big Ed Gruntner has sent an update -- soon to be call-in phone #s for those on their e-mail list to talk to R&M directly (?!), and a new website in the works.

Doh!! I posted that just prior to getting the email. Does anyone have any ideas where they are going?

My guess would be...they will be returning to the airwaves...but just not in Seattle.

Robin & Maynard has a fiercly loyal Northwest audience. They will return somewhere.....

So did Pat Cashman.

Hey....don't forget Maynard was part of the dream team at KJR-AM in the 70's. If I remember correctly, the station had a 48 share. So it's time to pass the torch. Good luck, John. You can alway's park cars at Canlis......

Back to KZOK in the afternoon?

102.5 would have to shift Slaton to evenings and bump Ireland...
..OR, Slaton would relieve his shift altogether; ONLY possible scenerio -

KJR-FM?....Don't believe Clear Channel's their forte - and vice versa.

And still does and they would be happy to hear him anywhere. Pat Cashman and R&M have solid, ready made audiences and for any struggling station, it's irresistable.

In spite of the current trend of syndicating talent, you still can't beat local personalities. As radio becomes global with mobile/satellite wi-fi, they will become essential. You can hear Rush Limbaugh on a zillion stations, but the ones that will stand out when all (or most) radio stations are available on a global scale are the stations with unique local character.

You can see that already with KEXP, KING-FM and KPLU.

Have to admit, as much as I hate the idea, it wouldn't entirely surprise me if you're right. Their website picture of Roy burnin' rubber on the monorail gives the subtle impression they're smokin' it out of Seattle. And it seems that they have burned a few bridges here, although a lot of that could just be on-air bluster. I don't know how things are with all of their former employers behind the scenes; I do remember when KXRX was in its final days they had multiple call-ins and well-wishes from former PD's & "names" in the biz.

Still, I can't think of an obvious new home for them in Seattle radio. I would be shocked to see them go back to KZOK although the afternoon show there is a big fat stinkeroo. KJR is seeming like a long-shot although it would be good to see them making an effort at recreating the personality-driven station they once were in Seattle. I don't suppose they will go AM? Perhaps they'll be heading to Sirius or XM radio or someplace. But I fear it could just very well be as formerKXRXer says; I could see Robin becoming the queen of radio in Montana. Someplace where she can simply dominate. Not so sure about John. Maybe it will be Spokane? <SIGH> The suspense is killing me!

Then why was Cashman dismissed from three different radio stations?

Why didn't Robin & Maynard's vast listenership hold up The Buzz?

On both accounts, I'm betting it's someone else's fault, right?

Uh, so?

KEXP's reach is only because they're looking for streams of revenue (aka donors outside of Seattle).

Yes, KING-FM and KPLU have good, unique sounds. But I still fail to see what the correlation between DOA morning shows like Robin and Maynard and Pat Cashman have to do with those stations.

Good question.

Two listeners. Sounds about right.

3 negative posts in 3 minutes. Are you in the radio business? I'm just curious why you are so negative about them.

Consider me another fan who will follow them where ever they end up.
