Rock 100.5/Bone merge Friday @ 10AM

Man I really miss those great stations from bygone days like 96.7 Lite FM, Reel Radio 105.3 and Cool 105.7. It's like a sitcom flashback episode: "Hey remember the time when 99x was on 99.1 FM on translator W258BU from June 9 - September 15, 2011?"

99X Facebook page now has a graphic showing "99X - Altanta's Alternative 98.9"

LOL. Hope it's happening for y'all wanting alternative back, but it's just funny how many times this station has risen from the dead -- online and off. I can't think of another station that's had that kind of on-again/off-again history.

Hell, I want alternative back and I don't care if it comes back under the 99x brand or something else. But I still say that 99x was the red-headed stepchild of the Cumulus Atlanta family.

Rock 100.5 is now reporting to the Mediabase Mainstream Rock panel, so it should be slightly mellower and less current than Project 96.1 was

Atlanta is now the only Top 10 market with this format - there's a station in Dallas that reports as "Mainstream Rock", but if you pull up their playlist it's essentially Active

Look for success in Atlanta and some other big markets to follow suit. Any market where the Active and Classic Rock stations are struggling should look at it very seriously. Just don't go in timidly. It needs to be done with a reasonably good signal, some strong personalities and a "let's kick some ass" attitude. This is now a format built for 25-54 success so don't worry about kids. If you can empower the adult male and make him feel relevant again you will have a very loyal audience with very significant spending power. Look around and it won't take long to see that most media outlets are making adult men feel like they are no longer important. A great Mainstream Rock station mixing the classics with some new rock will be kind of an audio Viagra to guys that feel like they have been pushed aside. It will be addictive to them and the advertisers that approach these listeners wisely will become equally addicted to these stations because they will see results that very few stations can deliver today.

^It also leaves the water open for Cumulus to put 99X back on a translator tomorrow, or to put AAA on a translator

As far as Clear Channel, there must be some political reason they can't blow up Wild - otherwise, I feel like they would've done it by now

Cumulus seems to have taken a lot of notes about what CC did WRONG when flipping 96 Rock to Project. 1) Keep the heritage brand, even if the heritage is only 5 years. 2) Rock harder, but don't throw out the old stuff that sounds good with the new stuff just because it's old.

Does anyone think there is a change that they will leave The Regular Guys on BOTH 100.5 and 98.9 as the morning show to boost TRG listeners/billing?

Surely would not be a fit if 98.9 moves to one of the previously discussed 'Walk' formats . . . but otherwise, wouldn't that give TRG many more potential listeners than they have with just 100.5?

Unless something has happened that im not aware of, the HD2 channel on 96.1 is Project 96.1 which is active rock and not alternative. It was alternative prior to the removal of Project 96.1

I'm really liking the sound of the new Rock 100.5. While I wish they'd play more of the heavier side of rock, overall the mix of music is nicely structured. The jock line up is solid, and listener interaction opportunities are plentiful.

I hope the programmers at Cumulus continue to keep the music mix fresh.
