Rock 102.3

Whatever happened to Rock 102.3 ? I moved away, and moved back and they are gone. I used to love that station. What's the story? Sorry if it's old news. I'm just curious about it's demise.

Someone at Cox had a bad attack of stupid...In today's trend, guess who's #1 again? KMOD!They wait years for Rock 102.3 to show signs of life, and with little to no promotional help, it finally does - then they kill it - just as it's really starting to bloom - to go head to head with a heritage Christian AC outlet. Looking at today's trend, it's peaked and is headed back down.I wonder if they've figured out they can't monetize that yet? Christian advertisers are a different breed - they don't buy from businesses that are primarily secular when they can avoid it.And look at the other Cox properties...K95.5 continues its steady slide while KVOO steadily improves.KFAQ is flat - but KRMG continues to lose shares - what are they doing wrong? The first phase doesn't look promising for Mix either. The only bright spot for them is KJSR - and its gains are nothing spectacular.I wish I could say I knew what they're doing to slowly kill these once stellar properties, but being out of the market now I have no clue.

What's so strange is that if Cox can program a format really well ,it's Rock. Just look at 99.5 KISS San Antonio or 93 Rock Miami,FL. If there was a format Tulsa did NOT need, it's another Christian station. Hopefully the Spirit 102.3 numbers continue to slide so Rock 102.3 can come back!

I wouldn't bet on that. The format didn't mesh with the culture at Cox in Tulsa. It's a very uptight, very buttoned-down kind of place. To do any format properly, you need jocks that live the lifestyle. It's hard to find real rock guys that don't mind wearing a button down and slacks to work every day.Look at their other stations - Mix 96.5, K95.5, KRMG, Star 103. They all cater to older, supposedly more mature audiences and their staffs reflect that. Rock 102.3 just didn't fit with their culture and that's why it never really prospered. Their only goal with that station was to knock just enough off KMOD to make KWEN or KRMG win the beauty contest 12+ battle consistently. It did that for a while.Cox as a company may be able to do rock successfully, but Cox Tulsa never could.

Let's get something straight, Cox has one highly successful rock property: Kiss in San Antonio.93 Rock in Miami cannot possibly be considered successful. There was once a creative idea in the company (Cox), but it died due to lack of air and water...mostly air, after all, it's a vacuum.

Your right 93 Rock doesn't do as well as KISS. But then again Miami is mostly Latin and Hip-Hop oriented, not rock. KISS in San Antonio has the right people behind the scenes. Not to mention a market that embraces the format. If there is a bad thing to that station it's the imaging, weak! KMOD wouldn't be so bad if they went in a more active rock direction. They play too much of the rock that belongs on Star 103. Basically they need to be more like KATT in OKC or KISS in S.A. Until they do I'll be listening to my XM.

Yes. Please bring back Rock 102. Life was much easier at the City Plex!

:D

Maybe there is room for Rock 100.9 ??? Lex & Terry could come back to FM in Tulsa!

Not to be confrontational...but I just gotta try to find out. I find it hard to believe that someone who works in the building would write some of the things you have written.

Do you really work for us?

Conception around the building is that you're not really on staff here.

If you really work here...then tell me three things every KXOJ jock knows.

1. Who does our engineer have a little crush on? (Initials are fine)
2. Where is our prize closet now?
3. Finish this payday phrase: Here's is your ___ check.

Just trying before I leave...=)

I agree with Gary. I used to work in the building & NO ONE there would ever post things like kxojdj. And, I haven't worked there since February & I know the answers to each & every question Gary asked. So, kxojdj...stop being a hump & and answer the questions so we ALL know you're not affiliated with a great organization like KXOJ. Someone with your attitude & personality would never last there! :)

If you can't answer the questions...then just go away.

Gary, good luck bro! My family wishes you & your family the best with your move to Ohio. I know a few of the guys in that organization & you'll be very happy. Nick is a very lucky guy to have a guy of your caliber rolling into town...you'll be a blessing!
