Rock 104.5 is retiring

restart the mainfraim... lol
interesting that they put sports music on the raw dog, i was wondering if it would be music for dogs.
 
I know that they're currently stunting but I believe the station will either "Easy 104.5" or "Power 104.5".

RIP "Rock 105/104.5" (March 10,1980-April 28, 2013). Although I'm don't listen to rock,this station was a legendary station in Jacksonville after broadcasting continuously for 33 years, which is one year longer than I've been alive. There are many people who were born and raised in Jacksonville who grew up listening to "Rock 105/104.5" and have been with this station their entire lives and, as a result, have accrued many memories with the station. For the most part, the comments from the majority of people on the "Rock 104.5" Facebook page range from pure disappointment and outrage to sadness now that their favorite radio station that they grew up listening to is no longer on the air. Personally, as a Jacksonville native, it feels kind of weird that there will be no more rock music playing on the 104.5 frequency after being a rock station for my entire lifetime.
 
I live in Altamonte and I have been listening since 10:00 PM. If we did not have this WFLF translator on 104.5 there is a chance I could have recorded OTA for you all.....

Yes, that is a safe bet. Any easy listening format they may introduce will be more contemporary easy listening along the same as Easy 93.1 Miami or The Dove 105.5 Tampa.
 
If it is Easy or Dove you know they are targeting WEJZ. WEJZ really needs a challenger to be honest. They haven't had one in years I think....if my memory serves me right Mix 105.3/105.5 (could have been Mix 105) was the last challenger I believe and that has been a long time ago.
 
Austen, you are further from jacks then I am right? I'm in The Villages, and you live closer to Orlando, further from jacksonville right? how would you have gotten it? my only way would have been to put an antenna on my rooph which i'm not aloud to do here.
Thanks for the help on the talk thing, i do have a hearing impairment so talk sounded like dog.

That will be the overall strategy if easy listening is, in fact, the new format. WEJZ has had that format exclusive to itself for years and is "ripe for the picking".

They've definitely been playing some more active stuff over the past hour or so (Saliva, Godsmack, Saving Abel, and currently an old Papa Roach tune). Perhaps a flip to active rock or a tweak to more of an alt-active hybrid is going down.

Unless a rock challenger emerges to replace Rock 104.5, WXXJ will have to be "all things to all people" as far as rock is concerned or else risk losing select market share that WFYV is no longer serving.

If the new format is traditional soft AC, with the name "Easy 104.5"...wouldn't that cause confusion with 96.1, since their calls already contain "EZ" in them (WEJZ)....? Wouldn't Cox want to select a different name for 104.5 that wouldn't match their new competitor's calls?

Not necessarily since call letters are less important since the introduction of PPM. Also, although WEJZ has an "E" and a "Z" in its call letter combination, WEJZ does not position itself as EZ 96.1, but rather it is known "Lite 96.1".
 
being all things to all people doesn't work so well. i dont like WJRR. other than WTKS classic rocking on the weekends, Orlando doesn't have a rock station other than JRR. JRR is too hard for me usually . to me JRR isn't all things.
I dont think X102-9 could be all things either. it'll be too much of something for somebody and not enough of another thing for somebody else.

I agree with what you are saying; however, as I had stated above, there are not many other choices unless a rock replacement emerges which is highly possible.
