Rock 104.5 is retiring

In all seriousness the most logical format choices for a Top 50 100kw Jacksonville FM, and in no particular order, is either 1) News-Talk (simulcast with WOKV-AM, giving news-talk a much wider full market FM signal); 2) Contemporary Easy Listening (to compete against WEJZ by attracting the upper end A/C target demo from 96.1); 3) Urban, Hip Hop, Rhythmic CHR (Power 106.1 migrating to 104.5 to better compete against WJBT and attracting a higher local retail rate and agency business); or 4) Hot Adult Contemporary (which will compete against WEJZ attracting the younger end 96.1 demo and attract the top end demo from WAPE, leaving the 18-34 demo for 95.1).

I know this probably will not happen, but what i the format is either the same or close to Rock 105? Would they really do that or would it just be cannibalizing X102.9?

It's possible that 104.5 remains rock with new imaging. Cox did this in Orlando with the former WHTQ when "96.5 WHTQ, The Classic Rock Station" was re-imaged as "96 Rock". The music playlist remained virtually unchanged; however, "96 Rock" was very short-lived as it later became WDBO-FM "News-Talk 96.5".

What would be the purpose of relaunching as a rock station? I am not being a smart aleck, I am just wondering.

I would think maybe just as a kind of reboot for the station similar to how movies will reboot a franchise every few years

It would be an attempt to create the façade WFYV is a new radio station with a new format when in reality the only thing new is the imaging; however, in this case, I'm not convinced that is what Cox is doing since they are over promoting WXXJ as Jacksonville's rock station.

Okay just listening the stream and the stunting went to a commercial...this is different.

EDIT: At high midnight on this change.

On WOKV's website they now mention that they are on 104.5 FM....it means likely that 690 could be dumped totally for WOKV at this point.

This move makes sense, though. WOKV is a huge power station in the North Florida Area.

WOKV now being full time on FM is a huge move....now what they are going to do with 106.5 FM and 690 AM....I am surely thinking 106.5 FM is about to get Power since a domain is registered at power1065.com.

Also just notice a domain for easy1065.com was registered as of today (now yesterday). Power1065.com was also registered at the same time as well.

Now the question remains as what Cox is going to do at 106.5.

Why would they not have just announced the move instead of all the stunting? You wonder if they would flip 690 to Sports like they did in Orlando down the road and build around the Jags...

Not totally....but now the Jaguars become only one of a handful teams in the NFL where their flagship is on FM ONLY. Majority still are AM/FM and only a few are AM ONLY still. Still things are going to be interesting for the next several weeks in market #50
