Rock 106.7

Two factors-

AN106.7 just hired a new PD, so the format will be around for a little while. (Jennifer Perry of WGST fame)

And 98.9 The Bone just announced on Facebook the Active Rock format will be retiring to the airwaves on a stronger signal.

We're in breaking news watch at ARI...and we'll keep you guys updated!

Jim

I have it on good authority that Jennifer's sister Katy used her influence to get her that job. And when Katy was asked how she felt about her sister's hiring, she responded, "I'm wide awake."

Radio Insight has a different theory:

“Rock 100.5” WNNX and Active Rock “98.9 The Bone” W255CJ have both begun teasing changes coming on Friday, February 1. Meanwhile Cumulus registered domains on January 24 for 989TheWalk.com and 989Walk.com. How do we see this playing out? With the new domains registered for 98.9, could we see The Bone brand moved onto 100.5 with Adult Alternative or Christian AC on the translator with the Walk brand?

Actually it was pressure brought by William "Refrigerator" Perry who was threatening to eat 680 The Fan.

Has rock 100.5 signed onto the braves this season? Could that impact anything? What's going on with 99xanother or is that a million dollar question.

Note to Jennifer: Recall what Randall Bloomquist did during his Reign of Stupidity at WGST and DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE! :D ;D

There is a new banner on the 99x saying "still under construction, dudes". That's about all the news that's available on that. I thought this meant it coming back, presumably to 98.9, but The Walk registrations lead me to believe that they're probably just readying it to become an online station, or just keep the faithful hopeful.

If Bone is pulling a 1 share 6+ on a translator (and probably much more in-demo), yes they are ripe for an upgrade. Rock100.5 has been trending in more of an active rock direction anyway, so it won't be that much of a change. The real question is how they will brand and image it.

Putting Bone on 100.5 would enable them to keep both TRG and the Braves...although I could see the Braves moving to Kicks or more plausibly AN106.7. It will also distance them more from River (which was playing the Ramones  on Saturday night!).

The real question is will Bone/Rock somehow wangle one of the "full 100k" signals...and if so which format loses out.

AAA on a translator seems like a no-brainer, but not necessarily with the 99X branding. I would expect an alt format that is different than Dave was, with more actual alt (more alt, less adult) and less Jan Wenner cog-rock.

Re: Contemporary Christian/Christian AC, I can't see Cumulus going up against not just the Fish but also WWEV 91.5 and J-93. I don't think the Fish pond is that big.

Rock 100.5 has really remained stagnant in rock since last spring. They are still mostly playing stuff 25 years or older with an occasional greenday or nickleback song. Far from active.

I've said it once and I will say it again, Atlanta needs an alternative/active rock hybrid. Yesterday, I was listening to the famous Krock online (the rock of new york) and they played disturbed, stained, chevelle along with Mumford and sons, Monsters and Men, The Strokes, etc. If a station covered both alternative and active rock, that will:
1 Increase playlist and variety
2 will fill two voids in one and will greatly reduce the need for another modern rock niche format while modern rock is going through a null at this time.

The Bone is getting great ratings for a 99watt signal. That proves a dedication to the format. I see the Walk as an adult leaning station (AAA or possible AC.)

We'll have everything up and running on the blog by 7pm tonight on our "flip watch."

If All News moves to 100.5, wouldn't that be embarrassing for Cumulus? Not even a year in and they are already lowering their expectations. Class C to a C2.

[EDIT-content removed per TOS.]

And broadcast in beautiful mono...and it works even better!

A Rock 106.7 would also pick up Athens.

I don't think these maps take a few things into thought:

1- 106.7 sits at the base of mountains and the signal is actually more powerful in Carrollton (where I live) vs 100.5
2-100.5 gets some interference from 100.5 in B'ham

Now, is 106.7 moving to atlanta. I though I read something on here about a CP to move to Atlanta.

100.5 will give a much better signal over most of the populated areas. 106.7 has signal issues on I-85 around Clairmont Rd down to the Brookwood Interchange. Also, if you look at the two coverage maps you will see that the west side of the metro will get a better signal with 100.5.

You make a brief yet damn good point. People forget how populated this city is. Still, I see a thirst for, more alternative than active rock in Athens BUT considering they have NOTHING in terms of modern rock, either active or alternative will do.
