Rocky Allen Returns for Two nights only..TONIGHT and TOMMOROW

Reminds me of his short one night sting on ESPN radio sometime in 2005, before his second return to PLJ. If he IS returning to some station, hope it's to one who treats him better. He was yanked off the air in 2010 I beleive with nary a word. We tuned in next monday and someone else was in his broadcast spot.

Favorite Rocky Bits: "Will they or Won't They".. Did NOT help my OCD fears any about shaking hands..

From Rocky's Facebook Page:

"For those that have been asking, I am coming back on the radio tonight and tomorrow. I am doing a couple of shows on 710 WOR from 11PM to 1AM to get my sea legs back. Feel free to call in at 800-321-0710. It is 710 on the AM dial. You can also listen on the internet at www.wor710.com on the listen live button. More to come."

From what I heard of this guy when he was on WABC years ago reading the newspaper on the air hour after hour in a droning monotone, I can't imagine what WOR is thinking, but -- so be it.

That doesn't sound like the same show. His show focuses on caller interaction, bits, the occasional phone scam. I've never heard him do anything like that.

Although, I DO remember how WABC treated his show. It was CONSTANTLY interrupted for very minor news reports and updates, as I recall, almost like they where deliberately trying to sabotage the show. It got SO bad, with no warning to Rocky that he was going to be interrupted mid sentence, that after a week I couldn't listen anymore. Maybe that was his protest to how the show was being treated?

curious now...

is just a small snippet of what a proper show was like. it's a bit slower paced than the Big Show, but relaxing for an afternoon listen..

The same people that dumped Rocky on WABC are the same folks who are bringing him to WOR. Good luck Rocky!!

interesting..does cumulus own the name of the show, or is he still under contract with them?

WOR is owned by Clear Channel.

Some of the same management people (Steve Borneman, Tom Cuddy) who used to work with Rocky at (then-Citadel owned) WABC/WPLJ are now over at WOR.

gotcha...clear now :)..

Interesting..he posted on his FB that he was 'workin the kinks out'...so, if he DOES plan to come back in a permanent position somewhere, where do you think he should land? Not sure which channels clear channel owns in the area. I'd love to hear him on NJ101.5.

also, anyone listening to the AM stream have commercials interrupt the show? I'm editing the program to listen to at work, and a guest or rocky would be in the middle of speaking....then 4 minute block of commercials, then back to rocky as if nothing happened. I'm recording the online stream, so not sure if they messed up, if it also happened on broadcast, or if this is just how AM or CC do business if you run to long..not sure what happened there..

That's the problem with streaming...most stations have no idea what their streams sound like!!!

The worst thing about the WOR stream at the moment is having to listen to Arthur Frommer whining about missing his flight because he lingered over coffee at the airport while the plane departed. Or describing how luggage theftcan be tha-warted. These gems runs over and over and over, at least in the morning. Management should be required to listen to the stream!

I listened the last couple of nights and I enjoyed Rocky's show. It's nice to have a light, general interest show that hour of the night. I find John Batchelor too highbrow and boring for my taste. He sounds like he belongs on Public radio. It's also a nice alternative from George Noory's nightly excursion into the paranormal.

Well, if Rocky DOES come back on, i hope it's not on WOR. Second night in a row, and their stream interrupted two good bits.
I missed the end of the cold calls to Trenton, and the story about the lady in sweatpants.. I wanna know what happened now )

a little late, but rocky was on again tonight, this time with blain(e?). It's interesting to see the reaction to rocky on that other NY message board, compared with the mostly positive reaction here.

Personally, I love rocky. his has been more of a whacky news story and listener oriented show. his phone scams are also a lot less...in your face than the genius ones that Todd Performs.... And it took me a while to appreciate them because of it, but now I love Phlegm and Shecky and Dick Trouser.

I especially loved the one guy who called up tonight. Apparently he was on Rocky's Last WPLJ show (second time around) and Rocky Told him to call in Next week. Little did the showgram know, there WAS No next week and they where un ceremoniously fired soon after with no warning and no class. It was also funny how even some of the listeners went after PLJ for the unceremonious firing ;o)...although R and B where quick to chime in they knew it was only business and no hard feelings where had..

I also find it interesting how the other place is bashing his WABC run. the biggest problem I had with the WABC run was, as mentioned earlier, how they kept on interrupting his show. With no warning, a reporter would interrupt his show reading daily headlines for about 4 minutes, and then it would go back to Rocky as if nothing ever happened..terrible way to treat the program. hopefully he gains a longer tenure here...he WAS, after all, on the air at least a year longer than scott and Todd, he just hasn't been on the air as consecutively :).
hope this is permanent Rock!

I think the point most people on that other board are missing is that Clear Channel is trying to find a way to get younger listeners to listen to 710 WOR. Rocky and Blaine had a very loyal following, especially with the Soccer Mom crowd, so it would seem to be a good strategy to pursue. Perhaps they could become somewhat like a talk station that is family friendly, like WPLJ is for music. Maybe it won't be a huge ratings winner, but could bill well. Just saying. I'm thinking they are trying to figure out a way to make AM radio favorable to a younger demographic.

They had a soccer mom following in the mid 90's. Going for 1995 as a midpoint, assuming those soccer moms were 30-40 then, that would make them 48-58 now. Not exactly the spring chicken demo.

Talk needs new blood. Andy Dean is trying too hard. If he would stop with the schtick all the time he might be a decent listen.
