Rocky Allen Returns for Two nights only..TONIGHT and TOMMOROW

I think the point most people on that other board are missing is that Clear Channel is trying to find a way to get younger listeners to listen to 710 WOR. Rocky and Blaine had a very loyal following, especially with the Soccer Mom crowd, so it would seem to be a good strategy to pursue. Perhaps they could become somewhat like a talk station that is family friendly, like WPLJ is for music. Maybe it won't be a huge ratings winner, but could bill well. Just saying. I'm thinking they are trying to figure out a way to make AM radio favorable to a younger demographic.

heh, speaking of the mixing of the ages.. I was listening on my way home on an HD car radio.. it would change for some reason from a crystal clear HD sound, to the more familiar, 'static' AM sound we are all used to. kind of what the station is trying to do...seemed perfectly ironic ;o).

AM HD is a waste of time and electricity, never mind money. It's a flawed product, splatters adjacent stations and doesn't stay locked long enough to be tolerable.

At least with FM, when you "blend" back to analog, the difference in quality isn't all that striking.

As long as WOR has Joan Hamburg on, and Mark Simone talking to and about irrelevant B-C level celebrities of the 60's, nobody under the age of 60 is going to be listening.

They had a soccer mom following in the mid 90's. Going for 1995 as a midpoint, assuming those soccer moms were 30-40 then, that would make them 48-58 now. Not exactly the spring chicken demo.

Talk needs new blood. Andy Dean is trying too hard. If he would stop with the schtick all the time he might be a decent listen.

Good points, but I'd argue that talk radio needs GOOD TALK more than new blood. Andy Dean certainly is trying too hard but, absent enough life experience, what's he supposed to do? So he relies on schtick.

It doesn't take a young person to appeal to young people -- that's a misconception on the part of management, IMO. Ironically, pre-CC, WOR ran Jerry Doyle in the 6 pm slot. He's a hot-shot -- energetic, youthful. He's been an actor, a politician, a stockbroker, worked for American Airlines, among others -- so he can call on his personal experiences as they relate to current news stories. He's INTERESTING, as opposed to Andy Dean who is, well, boring. Doyle has a great sense of humor. Dean?

Appealing to youth is one thing -- pandering is another. We've seen it over and over -- Hot Talk, 101-FM-NEWS, etc. AM talk radio is what it is -- you can tweak it to skew younger but throwing an Andy Dean or a Steve Deace (yes, Phil Boyce is doing it too over at WNYM) into the lineup doesn't cut it!

finally listened to the rest of the show...i'm so behind on my media, i've got backed up shows everywhere...

I actually laughed out loud hearing dick trouser after who knows how long. and I'm glad WOR fixed their stream. no more commercial interruptions. it used to be a relaxing night listening to "you do the movie" on friday nights at the jersey shore.. i even tried to call up one time.... but as usual, never got through :)..if the show comes back, I hope that is once again a regular feature..

it's also nice to see they didn't ignore their last week at PLJ, and are able to make fun of the fact they've probably been canned at more radio stations and revived more than anyone else :)..

hope it's a regular thing :)

And not as entertaining as his predecessor on TRN, Michael Savage...

Actually more, IMO. I've been listening to both for a long time and, while Savage makes a stronger first impression, Doyle has more depth. He's also more "advertiser friendly" -- edgy but knows just where "the line" is located.
