Rodney H: the tamer or the shrew?

Ok, so the title is a little dramatic. But, in regard to your recent Dave blog entry....

I'm interested to know why you cannot write that personality x was 'fired,' just because he/she has it in the contract that a firing cannot be referred to as a firing?

Seems like if a person is 'out', complains about being 'out', and wishes he weren't 'out', then it probably means he was shown the door and told to get 'out.' Ergo, he was fired.

I know you want to keep good relations with the radio management, but to let Barnes run that game on you last month was a trifle acquiescent, no? There's nothing in your contract - particularly in a quasi-journalistic forum such as a blog - that prevents you from surmising that 1+1=2, even though no one will officially confirm it.

Small potatoes and I enjoy your column. Just making the point.

I'm probably covering myself because Barnes sued 99X and Toucher for saying he was "fired" there. The guy just doesn't like such departures to be characterized that way, whether it is or not. But I hope I left it in such a way that folks can indeed put two and two together and draw their own conclusions.

Admire and appreciate the candor.

Begs the question, though: Is the AJC that scared of a lawsuit filed by Steve Barnes?

Of course the AJC needs to be cautious.
If Barnes was 'fired', either Barnes or his employer would need to substantiate that action. Otherwise, the AJC would be speculating. Unsubstantiated speculation on a matter like this, could leave them very exposed in our litigious society.

Some woman just won an $11 million dollar lawsuit agaisnt a blogger for unfavorable comments that were made. Maybe Rodney isnt being too cautious about the Brnes thing

Considering the alleged hair-trigger on Steve Barnes and his knack for either suing or discrediting anyone who says anything remotely disparaging about him, it is best to stay clear of negative regarding this master thespian, his lovely family or the wonderful movie "No Witness." Hey, when will AMC Theaters book all screens to show "Last Sunset?" I can't wait to see that movie.
