Rome loses 60 big ones and Zone tightens belt

The Zone has dropped 60 minutes from Jim Rome's daily 180, allowing for a fresher Dan Patrick and some belt-tightening on local hours. Apparently, the nightly (when there's no play-by-play) two hours of Dan Patrick has proved popular enough that they've moved the delay on his show to a just after it's happened slot of 10-12 a.m. That means they're now airing only two hours of Rome (which proves there is a God). Then they pulled the belt tighter by consolidating those 10 a.m. one-hour shows with the 2 p.m. one-hour shows, to get just one set of 5 shows to air at 2 p.m. M-F. Liz Allison, who had a show in each of those time periods, gets the Monday 2 p.m. slot, then adds a 2-hour Saturday midday program (which is probably better timing for her NASCAR audience).

How many times can Dan Patrick interview Reggie Miller or Charles Barkley? Patrick's show will get old, quickly.

Let's see, now how long has he been on the air? I guess someone hasn't figured it out yet that his show gets old quickly...

At least it's more interesting than punk rant and endless fanboy emails.

Jetfli, I listened to Patrick on ESPN radio before his current syndicated show. During basketball season or slow sports weeks "friends of the show" Barkley and Miller will call. Usually they have little or nothing to say. Like Patrick and Rome, Barkley and Miller love the sound of their own voices. Your mancrush on Dan Patrick is not being threatened. Keep saying to yourself,"En fuego," while you are bopping the bishop. Hey, is that Keith Olbermann calling again?

Riveting dialogue heard this week on Dan Patrick's show. Producer: "Hey Dan, how did you and the anchors at SportsCenter choose your neckties?"

DP: "Well, Berman got first choice. I usually picked a tie with some blue to match my eyes."

Producer: "What about Bill Pidto?"

DP: "I took Pidto's ties whenever he was not looking. Now I have 627 ties in my armoire. Maybe I can sell them for charity sice I no longer need ties for work."...

(About that time I dozed off.)
