RTV out, Me-TV in at WMFP

Not much I'll miss on RTV - other than "Wolfman Mac's Chiller Drive-In Theater" and "The Saint". I've been watching MeTV on 10.2 and have just been hoping it would be picked up in Boston. I thought it would have landed on 5.2 given that other Hearst stations (such as WMUR) picked it up.

well im a very happy camper!!! i haven't even watched rtv since they dropped the universal library!!

That is great! Boston needed to get a full-fledged MeTV affiliate. Now, I can get MeTV up in New Hampshire (WMUR 9.2), Providence (WJAR 10.2) and now on WMFP. Hopefully, WMFP will not break away with infomercials like they did with RTV. I guess Weigel frowns upon any MeTV affiliate doing "Swiss Cheese" scheduling. We shall see. It's too bad that RTV really went by the wayside. It was a great retro network. But losing the Universal library was the last straw. I love MeTV. And horror fans will not be disappointed with Svengoolie on Saturday nights. He's "one-of-a-kind"! Good move WMFP!

Any idea if we'd get it in Hartford/New Haven? We get ThisTV on WCCT-TV 20-2 of Waterbury and Antenna TV on WTIC-TV 61-2 of Hartford. Tribune owns WTIC-TV and WCCT-TV is their so-called sister station.

Just because RTV has lost Boston doesn't mean their days are numbered. Gee, people think the sky is falling.

WMFP has 62.2 that they could move RTV over to, or run all infomercials.

Isn't WSAH-DT 43 owned by the same group as WMFP? I wonder if WSAH will drop RTV for ME-TV?

Owners

WSAH-DT-- Multicultural Television Broadcasting, LLC (sale pending). It has been according to another subject on this board put up for auction.

WMFP-DT--NRJ TV, LLC (NRJ TV Boston License Co, LLC)

To be honest I was not expecting that. I would've thought with the pact between Hearst and Weigel that WCVB would air MeTV.

And MeTV will air on the main 62.1 channel as well as on both Directv and Dish Network and on cable systems that carry WMFP like Metrocast (channel 20), Comcast (channel 20), RCN Cable (channel 21), Verizon FiOS (channel 23), and on municipal cable systems in Shrewsbury (channel 24), Braintree (channel 20) and Norwood (channel 15).

You can see their official press release on this here.

Looks like an early Christmas gift is in store for classic TV fans in Boston who can't get WMUR 9-2

Indeed they do.

It would be really nice if the Hartford/New Haven market would get Me-TV. It would be a great fit for WCCT to have on 20.3 or even WVIT as 30.4. Antenna TV is good, but most of their programming is on other networks and most of their new acquisitions, I don't watch. Me-TV is very similar to the TVLand of 1996.

Looks like RTV is moving to 62.2 along with those 12 hours a day infomercials, according to a post on Facebook by RTV.

Now the big question is if WMFP is going to work at getting clearances for 62.2 on the local cable systems. Currently 62.2 is a duplicate feed of 62.1,which is why it has no cable coverage.

Yep.

along with those 12 hours a day infomercials,

Where did you get that from?

RTV posted it on their Facebook page.

Where on their Facebook page did they say the 12 hours per day of infomercials would be on 62-2?

They currently air 12 hours of infomercials on 62.1 - 12 midnight to 12 noon - no reason not to expect that to change.

No question, WMFP will have to make a concerted effort to get the 62.2 on to the local cable systems. The more cable coverage, the better chances of giving RTV a chance to compete. After all, WMFP has a long standing contract with RTV to get clearance in Boston, even if it is being moved to the 62.2 . I think RTV was pretty much of backsided by MeTV and Antenna TV when they lost the Universal Library. No question, they've a lot of work to do to make things back on track. I wouldn't count them out yet. When you come right down to it, it's a win-win situation for the Boston market viewer. I mean, we now will have 2 unique Classic video streams at one station. It kind of like the situation in Chicago with WCIU-TV, MeTV and MeToo. There IS a market for both stations (MeTV and RTV).

We actually have MeTV, MeToo and Antenna TV here. WCIU shows newer 'classics' like Seinfeld now along with syndies such as Family Guy, American Dad, Springer, Steve Wilkos, court shows, etc. Weigel sent most of the real classics to MeTV and/or MeToo. Both of which get good viewership in the Chicago area. Antenna is on a WGN subchannel and on cable and I believe it gets much less in the way of viewer support. Most folks don't realize it's there (quite unlike Me and MeToo).

Supposedly, there's an RTV affiliate in this market, but it's on a low powered signal that most can't get and which isn't carried on cable/satellite/UVerse.

Right, and why wouldn't they stay on 62-1, where the cable viewers will be able to see them?
