RUMBA is already Ka-Put

They've been on the air for all of three hours. They've played what... 45 songs total? Calm down and see how it evolves.
and you just get the feeling that you'll be hearing alot of those 45 songs...modest mouse float on every 4 hrs....

First listener to guess the first repeated song on 104.5 wins a pair of Skechers! ;D

When Rumba first premiered, some on this board said that the new format had to be a practical joke and that the real format would debut shortly. Turns out, they were right! But who knew that shortly actually meant 3/4 of a year? Sounds like CC really needs to get their act together if a practical joke takes them that long to pull off.

I give them credit for trying it out. But I figured there wasnt enough of a market for it yet. It is perfect for an AM signal. I think they are looking back right now and saying WTF, we blew up Sunny and Jazz for 2 formats that clearly did worse than their predecessor.

When CC flipped 104.5 to the Spanish format last summer, I assumed the main reason for change was to impress Wall Street, which loves "growth potential" and was going gaga over Hispanic media a couple of years ago. Now that CC intends to go private, they've changed some priorities and want to see a cut of that MMR money, so this all makes sense.

How about that phony picture on the radio1045.com website? Notice that the South Street sign isn't hanging on a lamp post - someone in the Clear Channel web services department pasted it in, just to be cool. Fits the "unresearched" format quite well!

Looks like we got the first repeat. It's "Home" by Daughtry. In fairness, it is HUGE right now, especially with American Idol finishing up soon.

Radio 104.5's webpage asks for listener input on what they want the station to sound like. This may be in vain and CC may already have an image of how they want the station to sound, but if you're passionate about the Alternative format, take 5 or 10 minutes to write down what you hope to hear on the station - and tell your friends to do it as well. Radio 104.5 is still in its embryonic stage and may not be playing Creed and Tonic (or so, some of us hope) forever.

I honestly will be surprised if they wind up operating as a full-on Adult Alternative. In the '90s there was Max 95.7, which could be described as that and was a quick failure. Y-100 only faltered because it lost focus and was ran by a company with no clue how to program an Alternative in its later years. I don't see why this sound wouldn't work again, especially with WYSP still doing the Free FM thing for now and playing less music than ever.

Or better yet, they could sound like the music part of CC's Talk/Alternative hybrid WTKS-FM (Real Radio 104.1) serving the Orlando market. If you're up at 11 PM or later, I urge you to check out this station's music programming, or at least sample the playlist - this is what Radio 104.5 should aspire to sound like. http://www.wtks.com

Could be worse - they could be playing Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" :-[

OR Snow Patrol's chasing cars...talk about beating a song to death.

Maybe the Spanish version was the last song on Rumba! :D

Max was a failure because their playlist was too repetitive, and there were a lot of songs that Y100 was playing that they refused to play.

Eh, it's...ok.

Again way too many main stream groups in the rotation from what I have heard so far. I heard "In Bloom" by Nirvana, and "Better Man" by Pearl Jam, and I dry heaved off the side of my truck today. But other than that I will give it a few weeks to iron out a few bugs.

Hey, just think. It just might be better than listening to Pierre Robert sit and tell us how many dead people were born today, or listen to another song by the Hooters.

I'm diggin it so far. A lot better than the skunk abortion they had on there before. Personally, I'd love to hear more classic alternative (more like XM Fred), but hey! I have a keyboard, so that makes me as much of an armchair consultant as the rest! Opinions are like noses......

Assuming Radio 104.5 is trying to achieve high ratings with this station, why would one object to airplay of mass appeal Alternative Gold like "In Bloom" and "Better Man"? Nirvana and Pearl Jam defined an important era of Alt rock.

You are very correct with that.

But when stations like MMR beat Nirvana, and Pearl Jam to death, and you are trying to get new listeners to a new station, it's kind of a turn off for me. Just my two cents on it.

Hello from Ohio. To us, it sounds like someone at Clear Channel was listening to a relatively new Cincinnati station called 94-9 The Sound. www.949thesound.com.
The playlist is identical from what I've heard online, and the "help us build our radio station" thing has been going on since it launched late last year sometime. They just call it Sound Advice here.

I'm working in Dayton, so I don't have specific numbers or anything yet. (The signal covers a lot of dayton too) But from what I understand the sound debuted at #2 with men 18-34 in their first full book. These stations don't target men 100%. So their female nos are good too. But not all men like to talk about t&a all the time. My friends and I really enjoy our station here, so I imagine yours will find more of an audience than youre giving it credit for.

Am I the only one who thinks the beat for that song was ripped off from the "Silver Shamrock" song in "Halloween III"?
