Rumor

I often thought how things would have turned out had WCCB and WSOC simply flipped networks back in the late 70s when WSOC grabbed ABC from WCCB. WCCB would have become NBC and it could be assumed WRET (Ch 36) would have become Fox when it came along several years later. However, Fox could have gone to WJZY, I suppose.

I heard that one of the main reasons Ted Turner sold WRET was to raise the money to start CNN.

You heard wrong! Ted had plenty of money from Turner Outdoor Advertising

Wow Fox on 64 I don't even remember that rumor. Guess it either wasn't true or somehow it didn't happen.

Here's another rumor. CBC wants to sell 46 and 55. Not sure if it's true, it's been out there a long time. The rumor refuses to die.

I could see them selling 46/55 in the spectrum auction but I don't see them selling before that.

But then where would I get my movies?

Just recognize the cranial information that's already been downloaded into there. It's called memory. Build on that. Keep movin'.
Unless you're writing a report about the movie or something, and the professor was in it. Then you might wanna go more in-depth than that.

This is totally inaccurate. Jesse Helms by law had to divest all his holdings in Capitol Broadcasting when he was elected to the United States Senate in 1972. And as for the rumor that CBC is out to sell both Charlotte stations, this is also inaccurate. If any of the two would go on the block, it would be 55, not WJZY. Trust me, I am in a position to know.

At the time WTVD became an ABC o&o, WRAL had its choice of CBS or NBC. Because CBS is historically stronger than NBC in the Triangle, RAL chose the Eye Network, which turned out to be a smart move. But when RAL chose CBS, Jesse Helms sold his stock in Capitol Broadcasting; remember that he was very anti-CBS re its perceived left-leaning news bias.

I believe LBJ was allowed to keep his radio stations when he was in the Senate and even President.

Hope you are right about WJZY/WMYT. I enjoy them as they are, although I enjoyed them more back when the networks were UPN and The WB.

In the case of the Johnson familiy's broadcast properties in Texas, Lyndon was too smart to have any personal involvement in them on paper. The station licenses were in Lady Bird's name.
