Rush Limbaugh "Suspicious Package" At Florida Home

KeithE4 said:
But he and his cohorts are now old and tired, like their audience. He's becoming a bitter old man and a "Get off my lawn" type of guy. Not listenable anymore.

I learned a new word recently. Because of medical treatments my wife lost her hair. She has a wig that perfectly matches what her hair used to look like, but to jump in the car and wander down to the nearest tavern or restaurant is cumbersome so she came up with a collection of little hats.

We finished eating recently and on the way out we wandered past the table of some neighbors we had not seen for a while. The lady smiled real big and said: "That is a really cute little Go-To-Hell" hat. We exchanged a couple of pleasantries and came on home.

I got on the Internet. Is there a style of hat actually known as a "Go To Hell" hat? There is!

Maybe I should buy one for Rush. If he would wear it while televising his monolog, he would look just like the illustration Google brought up for "Go To Hell" hat. Look it up for yourself. Interesting read.

After what he said on the radio today, he's surprised people are angry?

TODAY WAS THE DAY The Rush Limbaugh Show became a liability to its affiliates.

Holland, Ed Schultz is a loser. The only people who are offended by Ms Flakes' unfortunate choice of words are you and fellow leftists. Normal people won't be offended and Rush will still generate $600 million in revenue per year and Ed Schultz will still be a loser (although you appreciate him trotting you out on his low rated show every other week to create the facade that you are a high placed consultant with words that should be heeded)

Good luck on Ed's show tonight

Why does anyone hire Holland? As far as I can tell he spends most of his time acting as another mouthpiece for the left. People hiring him to consult a conservative news/talker REALLY need to read up on this man. You might as well just be flushing your cash down the office toilet.

THANKS FOR ASKING. We did NOT rehearse this, right?

Goals: More revenue, better ratings.

Special focus on weekend on-air/online ratings/revenue & Internet/event NTR. See/hear/read more @ www.HollandCooke.com, and DON'T miss Neal Boortz clip among references on HCbio page.

RE Rush: Remember in "The Fugitive," when Harrison Ford said "I didn't kill my wife?" Tommy Lee Jones hollered back "I don't care!" It's like that.

Revenue and ratings, both of which Rush antics now imperil.

Radio is neither my hobby nor political hobby horse.

How so? Better programming to increase station listener loyalty -- or bartered programming to raise quick cash?

Earlier I posted that I didn't think this latest Rush incident was any worse than plenty of other Rush antics...but I stand corrected.

I have in a short time now witnessed both online and on-air, some VERY angry women commenting on the lack of knowledge and lack of compassion Limbaugh has shown women, many pointing out that a great many women use birth control (pills) as a method to ease a very painful time of the month, so it's not as much about sex for them as medication in a sense. Some of these women included in their diatribes different versions of "I always liked Rush, but..." before going off.

Whether you agree with Holland or not, the turnaround between what he predicted and actual real-life reaction, has been swift.

Rush has alienated an awful lot of people over the years, but slicing a nice chunk of an entire gender out of his pie won't help his affiliates or fellow conservaclones one bit.

It's way past time to challenge the licenses of these 50KW blowtorches that broadcast 3 hours of Rush, followed by 3 hours of Hannity, followed by 3 hours of Mark Levin, etc. Not serving the "public interest" but rather a fringe element that 25 years ago could hear such toxic diatribes only on "patriot" shortwave stations.

Based on what? Limbaugh and company may be windbags, but making an ass of onesself is not grounds for the FCC to revoke a broadcaster's license. One could also challenge the license of liberal talkers (who's audience is hardly any more mainstream than the righties) for the exact same thing, by your reasoning.

Limbaugh's only got a few years left, if only because his own advancing age (he's 61) and that of his core audience (older than that?). I understand he's lost advertisers over this flap. Any more of that, and stations will start dropping him in favor of someone else.

And, BTW, the blowhard shortwave broadcasters aren't going anywhere, either. In fact, they'll probably still be there when all the others have long gone.

There is a sizeable mainstream audience that is VERY underserved.

Many left and right leaning stations get a good segment of their audience by default. I am a perfect example of that. I dislike partisan stations. They are insulting to one's intellect. However, do to a lack of terrestrial alternatives, I do listen to both, back and forth.

I do, like most people though, listen less and less as the years pass.

If people are "calling reception", how many of them are actual listeners as opposed to people staffing Democratic party phone banks? If there are local people calling, are THEY listeners, or would they even be listeners if the station converted to all liberal talk? Just asking.

Half of the citizens of this country are female. I think you are going to find that a major portion of the female population are offended by the words of Mr. Limbaugh. It is not Ms. Flukes (very childish to refer to her as Ms. Flakes) who used an unfortunate choice of words. I think the whole firestorm is over the words of the guy who has the radio program.

This may be the event that causes a lot of people to huddle and discuss what limits there are, if any, on the proper use of a licensed frequency. Obviously FCC staffers are going to be parsing all this to see if it violates any current regulations/standards. If it does not, the second half of the conversation will be: Should there be some rule that makes such comments an offense that can result in a fine or maybe a license revocation.

There will be a number of congressmen/congresswomen having similar discussions.

There will be a lot of discussion by business people and by ad agencies discussing: Do we want to be in the same room with this elephant?

There has been a lot of discussion about "establishment Republicans" who may have some reservations about how the current primary campaign in playing out. Whether that is true or not, I will wager that there is currently a lot of telephone time being burned by "establishment Republicans" discussing whether they are going to have to be the ones that knock the props out from under Limbaugh if the FCC and the advertising industry don't.

Could I suggest that people who NEVER listen to radio are entitled to have an opinion about what should and should not be suitable broadcast material. If they want to call the receptionist, write a letter, get a poster and do an "Occupation Radio Station".... there will be no one asking to see their survey organization diary to see if their protest is allowable.

You may be over-estimating the amount of funds that various arms of the Democratic Party have availble to staff massive phone banks that you see in your imagination.

If the Limbaugh comments had come out of the blue, there might not have been quite as much agitation. There might have been grumbling and the whole thing go away quickly. But as Paul Havey was fond of saying: "And now, the Rest of the story."

Women were already highly pissed. In a big grand-standing show, the Senate had a hearing on the subject of "Women's health issues" as part of their legislative program to over-ride the Administration's announced new plan for paying for birth control... INCLUDING church related groups that were protesting. They had a hearing. Five MALE witnesses sat at the table and testified about FEMALE health issues. There was an effort to get Ms. Fluke included in that event. Refused.

The House scheduled their own hearing on the issue and schedules Ms. Flukes. The powers-that-be came up with a rule that forbid the presence of TV cameras as she testified. (The five men had been televised.)

So, before Rush walked where angel's fear to tread as we used to say, a major portion of the American public was in a fowl mood over the way the Congress handled the subject of "Women's Health Issues". And when he did weigh-in with a choice of words that even his friends and supporters probably agree was a dumb, dumb move, that was the straw that broke the legendary camel's back.

It is obvious in reading this thread that many of you have never been the husband of, the boy friend of, or the father of a female who has parts and hardware that do not function well. Even when NOT engaged in sexual activity, birth control medications may be prescribed just to get all the moving parts linked together and marching normally. Some of the people in this thread do not understand the problems of PMS. (PMS and irregular schedules are NOT limited to women who are Democratic or Liberal.) I suspect across the nation tonight there are a number of men who tried to comment on this whole event at home and have found themselves sleeping on the couch tonight.

Take it from the Cowboy. Rush stepped in something. He may find that even new boots will not kill the odor of what he stepped in.

The article goes on....

"Brader said he was a fan of the politically conservative talk-show host and had sent the package as a gift with a business proposition attached.

He sent investigators photos of the package's contents, which showed an engraved wooden plaque with the name John Wilkes Booth on top and a digital photo display unit attached to the plaque."

I can only imagine the relevance of THAT little tidbit in a package to Limbaugh. Booth is only known really for ONE thing.

Got to admit it's working....MSNBC now calls this phoney outrage that the Republicans have a "WAR ON WOMEN"...yep beats having Rush talking for 3 hours 5 dollar a gallon gas or foreclosures.....

ok, circus over folks....no move on

This is not at all an "Imus Moment." Don Imus used a racial slur against a group of girls and it was unprovoked - they had not done anything but win games.

This woman did exactly what Rush said - she went before congress and said that birth control is costing her too much and we need to provide it for her.

She is the ho.

We are the pimps.

He is exactly right.
If we are going to pay for college girls and boys and whoever else to feel comfortable about the consequences of having sex, then you are exactly right, too.

RE "ok, circus over folks....no move on"

Yeah, right.

Haven't you heard?
Rush now says HE'S the victim!

Meanwhile -- STILL AFRAID OF HIM -- Romney and Santorum cringe-before-the-cameras.

Stations: If you're a Rush Limbaugh affiliate, MILK IT.
This story is closer-to-the-beginning-than-the-end.
And it's YOUR story.
Phones EXPLODE everywhere we've simply asked, "DOES Rush owe women an apology? One, eight hundred..."

Sure, some local advertisers will bail as national advertisers are.
But smart local sellers will WRITE NEW BUSINESS, retailers canny-enough to realize where-attention-is-focused.
